“Auntie, we’re staying in Uncle Lin’s courtyard. We need to repair what needs repairing and buy new furniture. Here are some banknotes for you. We’re all busy, so we’re leaving you with a lot of work.”
Aunt Su was completely bewildered by what had just happened.
"This...isn't that inappropriate?"
Jiang Shuyue took the dishes from her and placed them on the table. She then put the house deed and banknotes in Aunt Su's hands and said, "Uncle Lin is no stranger, so let's not stand on ceremony. If Uncle and my brothers return to the capital in the future, this house can be sold. We can give the money from the sale to Uncle Lin then."
"The house is too old and hard to sell. Auntie, we'll find some craftsmen to repaint the doors, windows and walls another day. All of that will cost money."
Jiang Shuyue's words were reasonable and well-founded, and Aunt Su was so moved that she didn't know what to say.
His voice was choked with emotion.
"Our family must have accumulated a lot of good karma in our past life to be able to meet you all in this life."
Su Huai Ren was also deeply moved. He stood up, cupped his hands to Nangong Ze Yue, and said, "Please thank Old Lin for me. I'll stay in the house for now and won't change the name on the property."
This is his basic principle of conduct. Nangong Zeyue quickly stood up: "Uncle Su, you are too kind. My uncle was afraid that you would refuse, so he did not dare to hand it to you personally."
Su Huai-ren chuckled awkwardly, "He understands me best."
Su Hui and Qiu Ju had been standing at the door with dishes for a while before coming in after everyone sat down.
The dinner was lavish, and Jiang Shuyue invited Xu Dong's family to join them.
Dinner was served at two tables: one for the young women and the other for the men.
Knowing that Nangong Zeyue would be leaving with Shuisheng the next day, Su Huai Ren specially placed a pot of wine in front of Nangong Zeyue.
"This kid just leaves whenever he wants. After having a couple more drinks, who knows when he'll be back."
Nangong Zeyue said with a grin, "Auntie is nagging about the younger generation, so I'll be back in no time."
Everyone burst into laughter at his antics.
Inside, the room was filled with the sounds of clinking glasses and laughter, a truly joyful atmosphere.
In the west wing, a tall figure stood on the roof, his dark robes swaying gently in the night breeze.
