Chapter 54 Farewell

Jiang Shuyue learned that Nangong Zeyue's master was highly skilled in martial arts and had once been a well-known and influential figure in the martial arts world.

Jiang Shuyue was happy for Shui Sheng that someone like him could personally teach him martial arts.

Shuisheng was also reluctant to leave her and Suisui, but he was determined to learn martial arts well.

These days, Nangong Zeyue has been training him, and he has seen firsthand how unreliable this pale-faced senior brother is.

Upon learning that he could receive guidance from a master at Black Pool Valley, Shui Sheng suppressed his feelings of parting and returned to his room to pack his bags.

Thinking that she was one step closer to her plan to return to the capital, Jiang Shuyue was happy and drank two cups of rice wine.

Back in the west wing, Sui Sui clung to Jiang Shuyue's neck and wouldn't let go.

He looked up at his mother, his eyes welling up with tears: "Mother, how long will Shengsheng be gone? When will I be able to see him again?"

Jiang Shuyue stroked her son's delicate, chubby face: "Sui Sui, you're a good boy. A good man should have ambitions beyond his hometown. Shui Sheng is going to study under someone with higher attainments. When he returns after completing his studies, you will be able to see each other again."

"Where's Uncle Nangong? Isn't he coming back either? Sui Sui likes to play with him."

"Mother doesn't know either, Uncle Nangong also has his own things to do."

During the meal, Nangong Zeyue said he would be back soon, but with his nonchalant attitude, probably only Jiang Shuyue believed he was telling the truth.

It's possible that if he returns to Black Pool Valley and his master detains him, preventing him from leaving the valley, that's also a possibility.

Qiuju couldn't bear to see Suisui shed tears, so she coaxed her gently, "Suisui, don't be sad. Tomorrow, Aunt Qiuju will take you to the street to watch the magic shows."

Recalling the last time someone inexplicably lifted her up and flew her through the air, Sui Sui shook her head: "I don't watch tricks, they're all lies."

A moment later, Sui Sui blinked her big, watery phoenix eyes: "Mother, if Uncle Nangong became my father, would he not have to leave us?"

"Click".

"Who?!" Qiu Ju looked up warily.

"Meow……"

"It's nothing, just a stray cat. I told you this house needed repairs, and thankfully Aunt Su didn't refuse today."

"Miss, I'll go get a bamboo pole to chase the stray cat away. It might damage the tiles. In the summer, the wind is strong and the rain is heavy. If it rains heavily, the house will leak."

"No need. Aunt Su will call a craftsman to replace the broken tiles in a few days. It's just a stray cat in heat, why chase it away?"

Seeing Sui Sui staring at her expectantly, Jiang Shuyue picked her up and carried her to the bed, saying softly, "Sui Sui, be good, let's go to sleep. Uncle Nangong is an uncle, you can't just say things like that."

“Miss, I think Young Master Nangong is also good. He treats both Sui Sui and you well.”

"Qiuju, you should go wash up and rest too. Tomorrow morning, heat up the chicken soup and let Shuisheng eat it before we set off." Jiang Shuyue didn't want to talk about this topic.

Nangong Zeyue is a good person, with a handsome appearance and a chivalrous heart, but she doesn't feel that spark when she sees him, so they can only be friends.

On the rooftop, Xiao Jingzhao's face was even darker than the night sky.

When did he go into heat, or is he still a stray cat?

Xiang Song and Xiang Yang squatted on the wall, both looking up at the dark sky, as if searching for stars in the thick clouds.

They pretended not to hear anything.

After a while, Xiao Jingzhao turned around and leaped onto the wall.

"Master, shall I go and call Miss Jiang out for you?"

"Need not."

Xiao Jingzhao had been standing on high ground and had seen the whole scene in the courtyard. The Su family father and son were on holiday today, and Nangong and the others were also here.

With some of her friends preparing to leave, Jiang Shuyue is quite busy tonight, and it's unlikely she'll be able to reach a conclusion.

Seeing his master leave, Xiang Song wished he could cover Xiang Yang's mouth, grabbed Xiang Yang who was standing dumbfounded on the wall, and lightly leaped after him in the direction where Xiao Jingzhao had disappeared.

Inside the room, seeing that Sui Sui was fast asleep, Jiang Shuyue pried open his chubby little hands, pulled out the corner of her own clothes, and stuffed the nightgown from beside the pillow into his little hands.

Jiang Shuyue tiptoed out of the bedroom and went to the study in the next room.

She found a wicker box, opened the bookcase, and took out a copy of "The History of the Six States" and a copy of "Miscellaneous Historical Anecdotes".

She then put in the several travelogues she had bought.

After putting away the books, she went back into the room and took out the new clothes and shoes she had bought for Shuisheng that day.

She opened the bundle and put in a thousand taels of silver notes.

After tidying up and thinking that nothing should have been missed, I went back to my room to rest.

In the south wing, Aunt Su looked at her husband's drunken state and scolded him, "You know you can't hold your liquor, so why did you drink so much?"

Su Huai-ren shook his head; he saw that the person on the bed was still Shuang-ying.

"Madam, you...you're the one who put the wine in front of me, wasn't it so I could have a couple more drinks?" Su Huai Ren's tongue was already out of control, and he felt dizzy and lightheaded, so he simply lay down and went to sleep.

"Bookworm, Young Master Nangong is sending Shuisheng to Black Pool Valley tomorrow. I asked you to have a few more drinks with him, but who told you to drink so seriously on your own?"

Aunt Su prepared a table of food and wine according to the date, thinking that her husband would come home and let her find out Nangong Zeyue's feelings for Jiang Shuyue. However, she got busy and the two of them didn't have a chance to talk alone.

Watching her husband fall into a deep sleep, Aunt Su shook her head and sighed.

In the early morning, the thin mist condensed into dewdrops that still clung to the leaves, while a ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and poured down.

Nangong Zeyue had Shuisheng replace the wooden stick in his hand with a long sword.

Shui Sheng wielded his longsword, and wherever the blade swept across, crystal-clear dewdrops fell like shattered pearls.

"Shuisheng, stop practicing. Let's go have breakfast. We still have to travel in a bit."

Shuisheng turned around, twirled his sword, picked up the scabbard, drew a half-arc in the air, and sheathed the sword. His movements were skilled, graceful, and fluid, just like a swordsman who wields his sword every day.

Shui Sheng was engrossed in his practice when he became unaware that Sui Sui was watching him from a distance.

"Sui Sui!"

With a forceful thrust of his arm, he threw the sword in his hand toward Nangong Zeyue, and then ran swiftly toward Sui Sui.

He pulled the little one into his arms, his calloused little hands stroking Sui Sui's back.

Tears streamed down her face like a burst dam. "Sui Sui, you have a photographic memory. Study hard and you'll rise to a high position in the future, okay?"

Aunt Yue works so hard every day treating so many patients. When Sui Sui becomes successful in the future, Aunt Yue will be able to enjoy her retirement. Shui Sheng's thoughts are very simple.

Last night, Sui Sui said she wouldn't cry when she saw Shui Sheng off today, but her tears just wouldn't stop falling.

He nodded heavily. "Yes! Mother said she would send me to a private school when we return to the capital. Mother said she would buy a big house when we return to the capital and leave you a courtyard."

"Be careful when you practice, don't hurt yourself. Uncle Nangong said he has people in the capital, I will write to you." Sui Sui said, raising her sleeve to wipe away the tears on her face.

Shui Sheng let go of his hand, turned around, and quietly wiped away his tears.

"Okay, you study hard and I'll practice martial arts. When I can beat my senior brother, I'll go to the capital to see you."

These were the words Nangong Zeyue said to him. He promised that if he could defeat him, he would take him out of Black Pool Valley to see Sui Sui.
