Chapter 14 I'm the kind of person who's protective of my own.
Shi Yang turned his head to look out the window without saying a word.
She doesn't like to show her weakness to others.
Her chin was held down, and cold fingertips touched her swollen cheek.
Press lightly with your fingertips.
hiss-
She gasped slightly in pain, a hint of red welling up in her eyes as she looked at him with a resentful expression.
What are you doing?
Ji Peiheng didn't press further, and simply said, "Let's drive."
The car started moving and traveled for a while.
Shi Yang realized this wasn't the way back to Xijiuyue: "Aren't we going home?"
Ji Peiheng casually said, "We've been married for so long, it's time to visit your mother-in-law."
Shi Yang suddenly looked at him, a thought flashing through her mind.
They arrived unexpectedly.
Upon entering, they heard a lively chatter.
Song Zhihua, Shi Bin, and Shi Yue were eating around a round table. The table was laden with delicious food, and in the center was a cake. Song Zhihua was also wearing a birthday hat.
Shi Yue is singing Happy Birthday.
Upon seeing them, their lively conversation abruptly ceased, as if her and Ji Peiheng's sudden arrival had interrupted this joy and warmth.
Shi Yang smiled sarcastically. She knew it was Song Zhihua's birthday today. When she saw Song Zhihua today, she wanted to say happy birthday, but before she could even speak, she was slapped.
Ji Peiheng put his hands in his pockets and said in a slow, smiling voice, "It's my birthday."
He said to Shi Yang in a reproachful tone, "You too, you didn't tell me about such an important event as your mother-in-law's birthday. It makes it seem like your son-in-law came uninvited."
Shi Yang sneered inwardly. The Shi family hadn't even invited her, so why would they invite him?
Song Zhihua stood up and smiled awkwardly: "Of course not, it's just a regular meal. I thought I wouldn't bother you to come all this way."
Ji Peiheng grabbed Shi Yang's hand: "Hurry up, didn't you hear your mother-in-law calling us to sit down?"
Shi Yang looked at him, wondering where he had heard that.
Ji Peiheng pulled her to a seat with an air of nonchalance, and even thoughtfully draped a tablecloth over her lap. Then he looked up and asked with a sincere expression, "Won't this disturb you?"
Shi Bin said, "Of course we won't bother you. We're all family, so why talk about bothering each other?"
He instructed the servants to bring two more sets of tableware.
Shi Yue turned the fish on the table to Shi Yang, speaking in a caring tone like an older sister: "Xiao Yang, this is your favorite fish, try it."
It was a sweet and sour fish, Shi Yue's favorite fish, which Song Zhihua often made for her.
Shi Yang's least favorite food is sweet and sour fish.
The fish's body had already been eaten, leaving only the head and tail.
Just as Shi Yang was about to speak, Ji Peiheng's sharp gaze fell on Shi Yue: "Who are you?"
Shi Yue was taken aback. How could he not know her status sitting here? Besides, how could Ji Peiheng not know about her and Ji Jinyu's affair?
After a moment of surprise, she smiled slightly and said, "I am Xiao Yang's older sister."
"Oh..." Ji Peiheng said knowingly, "You are that divorced widow sister."
This statement was extremely offensive. After Shi Yue's husband passed away, she divorced and returned to China, and she was most sensitive to others talking about this.
If it weren't for the inappropriate occasion, Shi Yang would have almost burst out laughing.
Shi Yue's expression was beyond just ugly.
Song Zhihua naturally wanted to defend her daughter, but before she could say anything, Ji Peiheng changed the subject: "I haven't wished my mother-in-law a happy birthday yet."
He picked up his wine glass, as if to offer a toast.
Song Zhihua had no choice but to pick up his wine glass as well.
Just as they were clinking glasses, Ji Peiheng twisted his wrist and slammed the glass down on the table. The liquid inside sloshed wildly and spilled onto the tablecloth. "I suddenly remembered something. My daughter Yangyang was beaten up today, and no matter how much I pressed her, she wouldn't tell me who did it. I feel sorry for her, so I wanted to ask my mother-in-law if she knows what happened?"
In an instant, the scene fell silent.
Song Zhihua froze immediately.
Shi Yang looked up in surprise, not expecting him to actually stand up for her.
Song Zhihua looked at Shi Yang, her eyes saying: Hurry up and say something.
Shi Yang immediately looked away.
She was grateful that someone had finally stood up for her.
Shi Bin had a pretty good idea of what was going on, so he stepped in to smooth things over, pretending to blame Song Zhihua: "I've already told you, your concern makes you confused, your concern makes you confused. The children are grown up, you shouldn't meddle in their affairs."
Shi Yang watched their sophistry with great interest as they went from being beaten to showing concern for her.
They will still call white black, just like always.
Someone came to the rescue, and Song Zhihua immediately chimed in: "You're such a child, complaining to your son-in-law about such a small thing. You're still acting like a child."
Shi Yue: "Alright, alright, let's cut the cake."
Ji Peiheng said, "I'll do it."
The knife was in his hand, and he moved it back and forth above the cake, as if deciding where to cut. His fingers were long and strong, with distinct knuckles, and faint blue veins appeared on the back of his hand when he exerted force—a pleasing sight to behold.
A cold glint flashed, the seemingly casual strike appearing to conceal a sharp edge. Ji Peiheng said, "Alright."
Everyone looked over and gasped.
The cake was custom-made, with little portraits of Song Zhihua, Shi Bin, and Shi Yue on it, a happy family of three.
Ji Peiheng's blade cleanly passed through Song Zhihua's head on the far left, through Shi Yue's body, and then slashed down hard on Shi Bin's right foot.
The exquisite cake was cut in a rather horrifying way by him.
Ji Peiheng seemed tired, leaning back in his chair and chuckling softly, still playing with a knife stained with cream in one hand: "I'm very protective of my own, my wife can't stand anyone's temper."
He exuded a powerful aura, his words carrying a smile yet concealing a sharp edge.
"If my parents-in-law have any complaints about my wife in the future, they can just bear with it for now."
He casually tossed the knife onto the table: "Let's go, wife, let's go home."
As soon as they left, Shi Yue threw down her chopsticks and refused to eat anymore.
Her eyes were red with anger, as she had thought this marriage would make things difficult for Shi Yang.
She never expected Ji Peiheng to protect her like this.
What makes her so special?
Shi Bin and Song Zhihua also looked displeased. Ji Peiheng's purpose in coming today was to help Shi Yang establish his authority.
In just a few months, Shi Yang has already gained such high regard from Ji Peiheng; they have underestimated this daughter.
