Chapter 15: A Cake to Thank My Darling Husband

Chapter 15: A Cake to Thank My Darling Husband

Looking at Ji Peiheng's aloof profile, Shi Yang felt a complex mix of emotions that were hard to describe.

She grew up in the Shi family and was used to their favoritism and indifference. So she could become indifferent and ignore any unfair treatment they might give her.

But she never expected that one day someone would stand up for her and defend her.

That person was still Ji Peiheng.

Noticing her gaze, Ji Peiheng turned his head, resting his elbow on the car window, bending it to support his temple. His eyes gleamed with a smile, and the dim streetlights outside swept across his handsome features, making his eyes appear even more tender. "Why are you looking at me so affectionately? Have you fallen in love with me?"

"No, you're overthinking it." Shi Yang denied instinctively, avoiding his gaze.

"Oh...no." Ji Peiheng's eyes turned cold, as if his previous gentleness had been nothing more than an illusion. Like a lake in spring water being stirred by a gentle breeze, the calm was instantly restored.

Shi Yang cleared his throat and said, "I wanted to say thank you."

Ji Peiheng chuckled lightly: "There's nothing to thank me for. You being bullied is a disgrace to me."

oh……

So that's what he was thinking. Well, they're husband and wife now, so when Song Zhihua hit her, it was like slapping him in the face. Ji Peiheng was looking for his revenge.

The Shi family lived some distance from Xijiuyue. Shi Yang was scrolling through his WeChat Moments to pass the time when he saw Xie Ran's latest update.

She clicked on it and saw a photo of people drinking at a nightclub, with all sorts of bottles of alcohol displayed. The caption read, "Back in Beijing! How about a drink, guys?"

Shi Yang held up her phone screen to Ji Peiheng: "Is this person your friend?"

She remembered that they seemed to know each other at the bar that day.

Ji Peiheng frowned, seemingly wondering how they got WeChat.

Then I remembered what Xie Ran had said at the bar that day.

The crease between his brows deepened: "Ignore him."

Shi Yang said "Oh," though she actually wanted to delete the person.

On second thought, she realized that he and Ji Peiheng seemed to be very good friends. If she deleted him, wouldn't it be very awkward if they met again in the future?

When I got home, Aunt Cui had already prepared dinner.

Shi Yang glanced at the dishes and saw that they were all foods she liked to eat, including her favorite steamed fish.

They hadn't eaten anything at the Shi family's house, and they were starving by now.

Shi Yang washed her hands and sat down, while Ji Peiheng took a phone call as soon as he entered the room.

She picked up her chopsticks, and the first bite was, of course, of the fish.

Having learned her lesson last time, she is now extremely careful when eating fish.

Aunt Cui took out a cake from the kitchen. On the cake was a beautiful Barbie doll with light blue curly hair that shone with a soft luster and big, round blue eyes that were as watery as a clear lake.

The cream-colored skirt was layered upon layered, blooming beautifully. She looked like a princess straight out of a fairy tale.

Shi Yang exclaimed in amazement at how beautiful the cake was, and asked, "Aunt Cui, why did you suddenly buy a cake?"

Aunt Cui said, "My husband just called and asked me to buy it. He said you wanted to eat it."

Shi Yang paused, looking at the figure in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window.

He wore a white shirt with the cuffs rolled up to his elbows, revealing his well-defined forearms. The crisply ironed shirt and trousers accentuated his tall and upright figure.

He was still on the phone, but his eyes were constantly on her.

"Okay, that's it..."

Ji Peiheng hung up the phone, walked over, and pulled out a chair with one hand to sit down.

Shi Yang bit her chopsticks and asked, "When did I say I wanted to eat cake?"

Ji Peiheng said, "Don't you want to eat? I saw your eyes practically glued to the cake at the Shi family's house."

She was staring at the cake because she was looking at the design on it, and she found it ironic.

Whether it's a cake or a family photo, her image is never on it.

"I didn't actually want to eat cake, I just..." I just felt what?

Shi Yang couldn't bring himself to say it.

Ji Peiheng snorted, "I know, I know. You didn't want to eat it, but I forced you to eat it."

" I did not mean that."

"What I mean is that I want you to have a cake that's made just for you."

"..."

Shi Yang was taken aback and looked at him in surprise.

His lips curled up into a faint smile, and his eyes held a hint of seriousness.

Suddenly, an indescribable emotion began to ferment within her, and her eyes stung with tears.

It turns out that someone really did know what she cared about.

She looked away, then turned her gaze to the cake, and said with feigned ease, "Since Young Master Ji bought this cake, shouldn't I make a wish to show my respect?"

Ji Peiheng raised an eyebrow slightly: "Whatever you say."

Aunt Cui was about to cut the cake.

Shi Yang stopped her and took out his phone to take a picture of the cake.

She wanted to commemorate this cake that belonged to her.

Aunt Cui asked, "Are you going to post this on WeChat Moments?"

Shi Yang shook his head.

Aunt Cui smiled and said, "This cake is so beautiful, and your husband bought it especially for you. You can post it on your WeChat Moments to commemorate it."

Shi Yang hesitated for a moment, then decided against it; she wasn't someone who liked to share on social media frequently anyway.

The man next to him spoke up: "It's a shame that you have this cake."

Shi Yang glanced at him with a puzzled look.

Ji Peiheng picked up a piece of fish and used his other hand to pick out the bones, his movements dignified and aloof: "It must be so painful for the person who made this cake not to be seen by more people."

What kind of twisted logic is this?

Shi Yang noticed that he seemed very eager to promote the cake: "You know the person who makes the cake?"

Ji Peiheng placed the fish on her plate and looked at her with a strange expression.

Shi Yang was puzzled, but she still posted the picture on her WeChat Moments. However, she stopped before posting it, wondering if it would be too strange to post just one picture.

But what kind of copy should be edited?

Aunt Cui glanced over and said, "Madam, the caption is easy enough. I'll edit it for you."

Seeing her confident demeanor, Shi Yang handed her his phone.

Aunt Cui typed away for a while, then handed the phone back to her: "Done."

When Shi Yang saw it, he immediately got goosebumps.

Aunt Cui wrote: A cake from my dear husband.

Shi Yang looked speechless: "Isn't this a bit too much?"

Aunt Cui disagreed: "How could that be? My daughter and her boyfriend are dating, and they post this kind of thing on their WeChat Moments every day. That's what all young girls post these days."

One minute she's thanking her darling husband for the milk tea, the next she's thanking him for the cake, the bag, the clothes...

Anyway, I can thank my dear husband for everything.

Seeing that she didn't believe her, Aunt Cui stamped her foot and said, "If you don't believe me, ask the master. He certainly won't have any objections."

Shi Yang was even more incredulous; how could Ji Peiheng possibly accept such cheesy, cheesy copywriting?

Ji Peiheng glanced at it and said calmly, "That's fine too."

How could he accept that?

I never expected him to be such a mushy person in private.

Shi Yang couldn't help but think that although there had never been any rumors about him, she didn't believe he had never had an ex-girlfriend. He must have kept them hidden.

She couldn't quite picture him and his girlfriend being all lovey-dovey and mushy together.

I always felt that such behavior wouldn't come from someone as aloof and dignified as him.

After much thought, Shi Yang blocked some friends and colleagues. After all, most people didn't know she was getting married, and if she posted this, her phone would be ringing off the hook in no time. She didn't want to spend the whole night answering calls explaining.

I blocked some family members and deleted the word "kiss" from the text.

I just clicked send.
