Chapter 4 Ji Peiheng helps her remove fish bones
This time, Shi Yang was caught off guard. She said blankly, "Isn't this the company?"
Is there anything wrong with calling me that? What else should I call you? Darling? Husband?
Even at home, she couldn't bring herself to call him that, let alone that their relationship wasn't close enough for her to use such a term.
She tentatively asked, "Then what should I call you?"
Ji Peiheng didn't want to waste time on this: "Whatever you want. This one is fine."
Shi Yang didn't dwell on it and continued talking about work.
She talked until her throat was dry, but she didn't hear a single reaction from him for a long time.
Fearing he wouldn't be satisfied, she could only rack her brains to beautify her design.
As she talked, she couldn't help but wonder if Ji Peiheng's private meeting with her was an attempt to use work to get back at her.
The more she thought about it, the more horrified she became, and she couldn't continue.
My throat is so dry it feels like it's on fire.
Ji Peiheng pushed a glass of water in front of her.
Without thinking, she picked it up and started drinking.
Only after finishing the drink did I realize that this seemed to be his cup.
She glanced at him furtively and was relieved to see that he didn't react.
Seeing him intently studying his proposal, she asked nervously, "Is there a problem?"
Ji Peiheng looked up at her: "Do you think there's a problem?"
Shi Yang immediately shook his head.
She was confident in the proposal.
Ji Peiheng closed the proposal, and Shi Yang thought he was going to say something.
Unexpectedly, he changed the subject: "There's a family dinner tonight. Would you like to walk with me from here?"
His topic changed so suddenly that Shi Yang took a moment to process it before remembering that today was the fifteenth of the lunar month. Many wealthy families hold family banquets on the first and fifteenth of each month, and the Ji family was no exception.
As the daughter-in-law of the Ji family, she naturally had to go back.
āIād better walk by myself. My colleague is still outside, and I need to take her back to the company.ā
Ji Peiheng nodded: "Okay, then I'll wait for you at home."
That's it?
Meeting her questioning gaze, Ji Peiheng asked, "Is there anything else?"
Shi Yang shook his head: "That's all."
As soon as she came out of the office, Xiaoyan rushed up to her: "How did it go, sis? Is President Ji satisfied with our proposal?"
Shi Yang looked somewhat bewildered: "I think I'm satisfied."
He didn't say anything, so she assumed he was satisfied.
When I got back to the company, it was already past closing time. After sitting in the office for a while, Yang drove back to Xijiuyue.
Xijiuyue is where she lives now, and it is also her and Ji Peiheng's marital home.
Xijiuyue is a typical wealthy villa area, located in the most prosperous city center of Beijing, where land is extremely valuable.
Those who can live here are all people of high status; even if you have money, you may not be qualified to buy a house here.
When she entered the house, she saw another pair of men's leather shoes in the entryway; Ji Peiheng had already returned.
"I'm going upstairs to change my clothes, please wait a moment."
Ji Peiheng was looking at his tablet on the sofa when he heard this, and nodded slightly.
Shi Yang returned to her room, picked out a red velvet cheongsam, tied her hair up, and secured it with a hairpin.
Look at yourself in the mirror from left to right.
Wealthy families have many rules, and today is the first time she and Ji Peiheng have gone back to their hometown for a family banquet since their marriage, so it's better to take it seriously.
Just as she was coming downstairs, Ji Peiheng looked up.
A hint of amazement flashed in her eyes.
She wore a bright red velvet cheongsam, the fabric warm and luxurious. The collar and slanted placket were trimmed with silver, shimmering softly in the light. The cheongsam barely covered her curvaceous figure, accentuating her slender curves. Beneath the hem, a pair of fair legs were visible, and a pair of matching high heels clicked lightly on the marble steps, making a crisp sound.
Her black hair was carefully styled and adorned with a hairpin at an angle, adding a touch of elegance, while a few strands of hair cascading down her temples added a hint of allure.
Seeing that he was staring at her, Shi Yang felt a little shy: "Am I being too dramatic?"
Fearing he might think she was being pretentious, she added, "I just think our first homecoming after marriage should be taken more seriously."
"Do you value our marriage?" he suddenly asked, his tone inexplicable.
Shi Yang was stunned. Shouldn't she... take this seriously?
She carefully observed his reaction; his expression remained indifferent, making it impossible to see his true inner emotions.
The atmosphere between them suddenly became tense.
Just as she was wondering if she had said something wrong, Ji Peiheng smiled and said, "You don't need to be nervous. If you take it seriously, it will save me a lot of trouble."
When Ji Peiheng is serious, he seems aloof and unapproachable, but when he smiles, a faint smile flashes in his peach blossom eyes, giving people the illusion of deep affection, which can unconsciously draw people in.
Shi Yang's heart skipped a beat, and he avoided eye contact.
But in my heart I was thinking, how could a man's smile be so handsome?
On the way back to the Ji family's old house, Shi Yang kept thinking about what Ji Peiheng meant by what he said at home.
Was he subtly warning her to take their engagement seriously and not to have any other thoughts?
Lost in thought, they arrived.
Ji Peiheng got out of the car first. As Shi Yang was holding onto the car door and lifting her skirt to get out, a hand with distinct knuckles reached out from mid-air.
She glanced up and saw that Ji Peiheng was patiently waiting for her to get out of the car.
She gently placed her hand in his palm.
When their hands were clasped together, her hands appeared unusually small compared to his.
Shi Yang stared at it for a while, thinking to herself, her fingers were clearly defined and quite long. She had compared them with her colleagues at the company before, and her hands were considered large. Compared to Ji Peiheng, her hands looked so small.
They entered the living room hand in hand, and Qin Lan came over with a smile: "Look at this perfect couple, Yangyang is so beautiful."
"Thank you, Mom." Shi Yang felt a little embarrassed by the praise.
Qin Lan said, "With you by this brat's side, you've even improved his looks a bit."
Shi Yang glanced at Ji Peiheng, thinking, "You've got it backwards."
His looks are beyond her reach to improve. If he were a woman, she'd probably be jealous.
Ji Peiheng chuckled: "So, it's all because of my wife."
Qin Lan glanced at him and said, "At least you know your place."
Shi Yang's heart skipped a beat at the words "my wife," and he was taken a while to adjust.
Although she and Ji Peiheng are now husband and wife in name and in fact, she still hasn't gotten used to being called "wife".
Seeing her handsome son and beautiful daughter-in-law, Qin Lan found them pleasing to the eye: "Xiao Yang, if Pei Heng dares to bully you, you can tell me anytime, and I'll deal with him."
Shi Yang felt a warmth in her heart; Qin Lan had always been very kind to her.
When she married Ji Peiheng, he gave her a dowry of 20 million yuan. Knowing that she was not valued by her family, he gave her a dowry of 10 million yuan.
She also stated that the 30 million was her private property, and she could spend it however she wanted.
Ji Peiheng's lazy voice came: "With you protecting me, how could I dare to bully her?"
"Don't be so presumptuous."
At this moment, Ji Cheng'an came out of the study: "Xiao Yang is back. Your mother had the maid make your favorite dishes early this morning, come and try them."
The Ji and Jiang families have always been close friends. Shi Yang was raised by the Ji family and they have always been very kind to her. She also respects them from the bottom of her heart.
"Thank you, Mom and Dad."
After taking her seat, Shi Yang looked around and, sure enough, all of these were foods she liked to eat.
She loves seafood, and her first bite was of fish.
She hadn't eaten much all day and was starving.
I ate a little too quickly.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her throat, a sensation that was particularly intense when she swallowed.
It seems like she has a fishbone stuck in her throat.
Shi Yang panicked immediately. She tried to force herself to swallow some hard food and drink a lot of water, but instead of getting the fishbone down, it hurt even more.
The pain brought tears to her eyes.
Ji Peiheng, who was standing nearby, noticed that something was wrong with her and raised an eyebrow: "What's wrong with you?"
Shi Yang was too embarrassed to admit that she was stuck; she couldn't bear the shame. She forced a smile and said, "It's okay."
After a while, she was in too much pain to eat anything. Her eyes were fixed on everyone's eating speed, and she prayed that the family dinner would end soon.
After that, she was going straight to the hospital.
Qin Lan asked, "Xiao Yang, why aren't you eating? Is the food not to your liking?"
"I'm stuffed."
She only managed to utter four words, but the stinging pain in her throat almost made it impossible for her to maintain her composure.
His chin was suddenly grabbed and forcibly pulled in front of him.
"What are you doing?"
Ji Peiheng said expressionlessly, "Open your mouth!"
Shi Yang looked at him, puzzled.
Ji Peiheng smiled enigmatically: "Have you been practicing your needle-swallowing technique lately? Planning to go out and perform for money?"
Shi Yang's face instantly turned red, and she opened her mouth.
Qin Lan asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"
"I got a fishbone stuck in my throat."
Qin Lan leaned closer: "Should we call a doctor?"
Ji Peiheng turned on his phone's flashlight and shone it: "It's not stuck too deep, we should be able to get it out."
He first wiped his fingers with a wet wipe from the table, then earnestly inserted his finger into the wipe.
