Chapter 5 Sister-in-law

Chapter 5 Sister-in-law

Shi Yang closed her eyes; she simply couldn't bear to watch.

She had never felt so embarrassed before; in her awkwardness, she dug a castle out of her toes.

The stinging sensation in her throat disappeared, and she opened her eyes. Ji Peiheng's slender, jade-like fingers were pinching a short, transparent fishbone.

He raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on his lips: "This fish is so delicious?"

In that instant, Shi Yang turned his head away.

He was mocking her.

Qin Lan coughed twice: "You child, Xiao Yang didn't mean it, why are you making fun of her?"

Ji Chengan laughed and said, "It's okay, we're all family, no one will laugh at you."

The more Shi Yang spoke, the redder her face became.

During the rest of the meal, she moved much slower, especially the fish that had caused her to lose face; she never touched it again.

She will never eat fish again!

"The young master is back."

The voice of a servant came from the doorway.

Ji Jinyu is back.

He walked straight up to Ji Cheng'an and said, "Dad, I have something I want to tell you."

Ji Cheng'an's expression was unreadable: "Let's eat first."

"Dad, let's talk about this first, it's very important for me."

Shi Yang could tell that Ji Cheng'an looked very unwell.

He relented: "Okay, let's go to the study."

After they went to the study, Qin Lan called out, "Never mind the father and son, let's eat."

Even so, no one touched their chopsticks, and a look of melancholy lingered around Qin Lan's brows.

Suddenly, a sound of something breaking came from the study.

Accompanied by a deep, angry male voice: "You unfilial son, are you trying to drive me crazy? What's so great about that woman that you'd go to such lengths to marry her?"

Although Shi Yang couldn't hear what Ji Jinyu said, he could guess that Ji Jinyu had angered Ji Cheng'an because of his insistence on marrying Shi Yue.

Although Shi Yue was also a daughter of the Shi family, she was cunning and scheming from a young age. Later, she was sent to the countryside by the old lady of the Shi family. She was not brought back until the old lady passed away due to illness when she was in high school.

After Shi Yue graduated, she married and moved abroad. She divorced three months ago and only returned. Ji Jinyu is obsessed with marrying her no matter what.

No one in the Ji family, except Ji Jinyu, liked him.

Shi Yang secretly glanced at Ji Peiheng beside her. He occasionally sipped a few mouthfuls of red wine and ate a few bites of food.

It seems as if it has not been affected at all.

As expected of a young master raised in a prominent family, he exudes elegance in every gesture and movement while eating and drinking.

Thinking back to the scene where she had just choked on a fishbone, Shi Yang felt that Ji Peiheng was really being wronged by being with her.

Ji Peiheng noticed someone was looking at him, raised his eyes, and their eyes met in mid-air: "Why are you peeking at me? If you want to look, look openly."

Shi Yang denied it: "I didn't look at you."

"Oh," Ji Peiheng said nonchalantly as he drank.

Realizing he had said something useless, Shi Yang lowered his head in embarrassment.

After a while, Ji Jinyu came out of the study looking dejected.

When he saw Shi Yang, something flashed in his eyes, but he suppressed it.

Shi Yang understood perfectly what he meant: guilt, remorse...

But so what? The damage has already been done, what's the use of feeling guilty?

She turned her eyes away and refused to look at him again.

After the meal, Ji Peiheng was called away by Ji Cheng'an.

Shi Yang chatted with Qin Lan for a while, then took a walk alone in the back garden.

The summer night breeze in July is warm, blowing against her face as if trying to leave something behind, but only managing to tangle a strand of her hair.

"Yangyang, are you alright?"

Ji Jinyu walked over from not far away.

To be honest, Shi Yang doesn't really want to see him right now.

If she could, she would never want to see him again.

Their situation was awkward, and Ji Peiheng was also there. Her relationship with Ji Peiheng was already sensitive, and if he approached her and Ji Peiheng misunderstood, she would be the one to suffer.

Besides, she had already paid back what she owed him yesterday.

She took a step back rather coldly, creating distance between them: "Young Master Ji, is there something you need?"

Ji Jinyu assumed she was angry: "Yangyang, I'm sorry, I really couldn't help it yesterday. Luckily you're alright, otherwise I'd probably live with guilt for the rest of my life."

Shi Yang's voice was cold: "So you mean you don't have to feel guilty just because I'm alive?"

The moonlight bathed her beautiful face, making her appear serene and radiant.

Ji Jinyu was slightly taken aback. This was the first time he had seen her so cold towards him. From childhood to adulthood, she had always been his little shadow. Even if he had made her angry before, she would at most say a few hurtful things. He could easily coax her back to peace.

There seems to be something different about them.

But he couldn't care less about that now. Ji Jinyu revealed his purpose: "Yangyang, what happened yesterday was an accident. If Mom and Dad ask, could you please not tell them about the kidnapping? They don't like A-Yue to begin with. If they find out that your kidnapping was related to her, they will hate A-Yue even more."

Shi Yang was so angry she laughed. She really didn't know how Ji Jinyu had the nerve to ask her for this.

Thinking of her undeserved misfortune, Shi Yang didn't know who to confide in: "Ji Jinyu, why should I agree to these things? Don't you think you're bullying me too much?"

Ji Jinyu didn't realize there was anything wrong with his actions; he only wanted to marry Yue: "Yangyang, please help me, just for my sake, okay? Besides, Yueyue is your sister too."

He was a little out of control, grabbing her shoulders and pleading.

Shi Yang struggled for a long time but couldn't break free. He growled, "Let me go..."

Ji Jinyu was no longer listening. Ji Cheng'an's attitude just now was enough to show that it was virtually impossible for Shi Yue to enter the Ji family. He was truly at his wit's end.

"Brother, isn't it inappropriate to hold your sister-in-law like that?"

In the silence, a voice colder than the night suddenly rang out.

Shi Yang turned her head, and under the long corridor, a tall, elegant man stood looking in their direction.

The night was dark, and she couldn't see his expression, but his tone was far from pleasant.

Shi Yang felt a chill run down her spine, and in her panic, she slapped Ji Jinyu.

The crisp sound of the slap was exceptionally clear, successfully stopping Ji Peiheng in his tracks.

Ji Jinyu stood there, stunned.

The night seemed to stand still, with only the crisp chirping of cicadas in the grass remaining.

It's annoying.

A moment later, Ji Peiheng strolled over again, a smile playing on his lips. He naturally took Shi Yang's hand and said in a reproachful tone, "Yangyang, this is, after all, your elder brother. You should still respect him."

Shi Yang's heart was now entirely focused on Ji Peiheng. Although he was blaming her, his tone seemed less angry, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.

Ji Peiheng unconsciously rubbed Shi Yang's hand, speaking to Ji Jinyu: "Big brother, Yangyang has become a bit temperamental lately because of my pampering, please forgive her."

His tone showed no respect or remorse.

Ji Jinyu sobered up a bit and realized that he had been reckless. His expression darkened: "It was my recklessness. Don't blame Yangyang."

"Yangyang?"

Ji Peiheng frowned.

Ji Jinyu glanced at Shi Yang and changed his words: "It's not your fault, sister-in-law."

Ji Peiheng was finally satisfied: "My wife is tired, I'll take her back to rest first."

This was the second time tonight that he called her "my wife," and this time his tone was noticeably stronger, as if he was deliberately emphasizing something.

Ji Peiheng put his arm around her and walked back.

In the car, Ji Peiheng regained his indifferent expression and pretended to sleep with his eyes closed. Although he didn't lash out, Shi Yang could sense his displeasure.

Shi Yang panicked, thinking that he must be angry.

She's definitely in for a rough time when she gets back.

She spoke cautiously, "I didn't know my brother was coming to see me tonight. If I had known, I would have avoided him..."
