Chapter 27 I'm Here
Airport VIP lane.
A man in a black trench coat, with a tall and straight figure, walked out of the passage with steady steps.
His hem brushed against the silver handle of his suitcase, and in his other hand he carried a paper bag incongruous with his appearance. Oil stains.
An assistant greeted him at the airport entrance: "Mr. Ji, shall we head back to the company first?"
"I'm not going back, take me home instead."
The assistant took the suitcase and noticed that the man was also carrying the paper bag himself. Because of the long time that had passed, oil seeped from the inside of the bag.
"Mr. Ji, let me do it."
The man declined, saying, "No need."
Ji Peiheng turned on his phone, and the first call came in immediately.
As soon as he answered, a frantic voice came from the other end: "Sir, something's happened! Madam is missing!"
The assistant noticed that the man beside him suddenly became more aloof.
...
The moment Ji Peiheng returned home, Aunt Cui seemed to have found her pillar of support: "Sir, what should we do now?"
Ji Peiheng's sharp eyes turned to Lu Qingqing, his face turning cold: "What's going on?"
Lu gently recounted the process of making the appointment with Shi Yang, then angrily pounded her leg: "It's all my fault. If I hadn't been late, Yang Yang wouldn't have been in this mess."
Ji Peiheng said, "Let's go to the mall."
In the underground parking garage, Ji Peiheng found Shi Yang's car, and his eyes flashed as he noticed the surveillance camera in the corner.
Inside the mall's main monitoring room.
Lu Qingqing stared intently at the surveillance footage frame by frame.
Finally, she saw a familiar figure in the video and excitedly exclaimed, "Found it!"
Lu asked softly, puzzled, "Who are these two hooligans? They look like students. How could Yangyang be associated with such brats?"
Ji Peiheng's cold, sharp gaze was fixed on the surveillance screen. Holding his phone in his left hand, he said to Liao Nan, who was far away in Haicheng, in a chilling voice: "Investigate these two people for me."
Lu glanced at him and saw that his brows were furrowed and his handsome face was full of frost.
She thought to herself, "My new husband, Yangyang, seems to care about me quite a bit."
Everyone outside was frantically searching for him, while the culprit behind Shi Yang's disappearance was playing games with his friends at an internet cafe.
"Go! Go! How can you be so bad?"
Shi Xing ripped off his headset and threw it on the table: "I'm not playing anymore! It's boring!"
His cronies sidled up to him and said, "Brother Xing, don't be angry. You're finally back. Let's go for a drink."
"I won't drink it. I'm leaving tomorrow."
"So eager?"
Shi Xing didn't mention that she had sneaked back.
The brother said again, "Brother Xing, didn't you say you had something to do at six? It's already seven now, aren't you leaving?"
Oh no!
Shi Xing was startled and jumped up to walk out.
He forgot about Shi Yang.
As soon as I stepped out of the internet cafe, I was stopped by two men in black.
Shi Xing took a step back: "Who are you?"
The man in black, expressionless, pushed him to the ground.
Shi Xing roared, "Do you know who I am? Get out of my way!"
He was forcibly taken to a car.
"What are you trying to do? Don't you know the law? It's broad daylight!"
All her words came to an abrupt halt when she faced the man in the car.
A man in a black trench coat stared at him expressionlessly, as if he were examining something. His eyes held an invisible chill that sent shivers down Shi Xing's spine.
The man spoke calmly: "Where is he?"
Shi Xing asked warily, "Who are you?"
When Shi Yang and Ji Peiheng got married, Shi Xing was still studying in another city, so she did not know Ji Peiheng.
Ji Peiheng moved his fingers.
The man in black punched him in the face without any mercy.
Shi Xing was stunned by the blow.
He heard the man say slowly, "Be careful not to hit any obvious areas, lest I upset my in-laws."
...
In the warehouse.
Shi Yang had exhausted all his strength.
Her body was soaked in cold sweat, her wet clothes clinging to her skin, sending a chill down her spine. She weakly pounded on the warehouse door, hoping to attract attention outside.
However, the door remained as solid as an impenetrable wall, unresponsive to her knocking.
She didn't know how much time had passed.
The door finally opened.
As light shone through the crack in the door, a powerful figure came into view.
Seeing that face, as beautifully sculpted as jade, my fearful heart instantly calmed down.
She gave a bitter smile: "You've come."
Ji Peiheng knelt down on one knee and hugged her: "I'm here."
His voice was calm and reassuring.
...
Shi Yang slept until the next day.
The strong light filtering through the curtains showed that it was already broad daylight outside. She stared blankly at the ceiling, memories of yesterday flooding back.
Shi Xing! That bastard!
She was so angry that she punched the bed.
"Madam is awake." Aunt Cui came in from the doorway carrying a bowl of stomach-soothing porridge, and said with lingering fear, "Madam, thank goodness you're alright. I was so scared yesterday."
Shi Yang got out of bed: "How could I sleep for so long?"
Aunt Cui said, "Yesterday, your husband took you to the hospital for a check-up. You weren't feeling well, so the doctor gave you a sedative injection to help you sleep soundly."
No wonder she slept soundly all night without any dreams.
Shi Yang lay down for a while longer and then made a phone call to Lu Qingqing.
Hearing her voice, Lu breathed a huge sigh of relief: "Baby, thank goodness you're alright."
Shi Yang, fearing she would feel guilty, pretended to be relaxed and said, "Don't worry, I'm such a lucky person, nothing will happen to me."
Lu paused slightly, but what she didn't mention was the way Ji Peiheng looked at her yesterday.
It was too cold, too terrifying.
She couldn't even look him in the eye.
Lu Qingqing barely slept all night, waiting for her call.
Now I can finally relax: "Honey, I'm so glad you're okay. I still have some work to do, so I'll talk to you later."
Shi Yang got out of bed and paused as he passed the study.
She heard voices inside.
Through the crack in the door, she saw a man dressed in casual clothes working at his computer. The light from the computer screen made his features appear even more refined. Even the furrowed brows he wore while working exuded an air of scholarly elegance.
He didn't go to work today.
Seemingly sensing someone spying, Ji Peiheng looked towards the door and said, "Come in."
Shi Yang pushed open the door and went in.
This was her first time in his study, a place where minimalist decor was tinged with understated luxury.
Like his style.
Ji Peiheng leaned back lazily in his chair and said, "As Mrs. Ji, when will you get rid of your habit of peeping at me?"
She didn't do it on purpose...
Shi Yang asked, "Why didn't you go to work today?"
"My wife is bedridden, and I go to work without caring about her. What do you expect people outside to say about me?" Ji Peiheng said casually.
"I'm fine now... but thank you anyway," Shi Yang said sincerely.
Then she thought, "Wait a minute, weren't you supposed to be on a business trip yesterday? Why did you come back early?"
Ji Peiheng remained nonchalant: "I finished my work ahead of schedule and came back."
Liao Nan, far away in Haicheng, suddenly sneezed and looked at the thick stack of documents in her hand, feeling like crying.
Look, he has so much work to do that he can't possibly finish it all; he's even caught a cold from exhaustion.
Ji Peiheng's gaze turned slightly serious as he observed her complexion: "How are you feeling now?"
"It's all right. Everything's fine now."
Ji Peiheng said, "You used up too much energy yesterday. Go lie down and rest if you have nothing to do. Ask Aunt Cui to make anything you want to eat."
"And what about you?" Shi Yang followed up with a question.
Meeting his ambiguous smile, she immediately shut her mouth.
She turned around and went back to her bedroom to lie down.
