Chapter 126 A Pair of Eyes Was Watching Her from the Shadows

Chapter 126 A Pair of Eyes Was Watching Her from the Shadows

I took a hot bath, and the heat spread throughout my body.

Shi Yang closed his eyes comfortably.

...

She was woken up by the cold.

She actually fell asleep in the bathtub.

After drying herself off and changing into new pajamas, Shi Yang left the bathroom.

There's lightning and thunder outside; it's going to rain again.

A strip of warm yellow light around the bedroom floor helped dispel some of her fear.

A cold draft blew into the bedroom, so she went to the window to close it.

A casual glance at the scene caused his face to turn pale instantly.

He quickly took a few steps back.

I pressed my hand against my heart, which was pounding like a drum, and the fear intensified.

She had just seen a figure standing under a tree outside; it was dark and she couldn't see the face.

She gritted her teeth and went over again. Outside, heavy rain was pouring down, lightning flashed across the dark sky, and there was no one under the tree.

It was just like her hallucination.

She couldn't help but wonder if she was really hallucinating because she was too scared.

With that in mind, she still dialed the property management's number: "Hello, I suspect there are suspicious people loitering downstairs... Could you please send someone to check?"

Soon, Shi Yang stood at the window and saw the property management staff coming to inspect the area in the rain; they had also looked under the tree.

They gave a precise answer—no one was around!

After thanking the property management staff, Shi Yang lay down on the bed. Was it because she was being followed? She couldn't help feeling suspicious, always feeling like someone was watching her from the shadows.

Even now, at home, she feels as if a pair of eyes are watching her from somewhere in the shadows.

She tried desperately to stop herself from overthinking, but as soon as she closed her eyes, the suspicious figure under the tree would appear in her mind.

Unable to sleep at all due to being disturbed, Shi Yang simply decided not to sleep and sat up to draw.

She tried to ignore the thunder and lightning outside and focused her attention on drawing.

Suddenly, all the lights in the room went out, plunging the entire bedroom into darkness.

Shi Yang was startled and ran out to try several consecrations, but none of them worked.

I had no choice but to call the property management again, and they said they would send someone to repair the circuit immediately.

Shi Yang waited anxiously, unable to sit still.

The entire villa was dark and quiet, and the thunder outside sounded like the final roar of a giant beast opening its blood-red maw, ready to devour her.

Shi Yang's lips were as white as paper, and he was covered in cold sweat.

She could only pin her hopes on the property management and pray that they would fix it quickly.

After an unknown amount of time, there were several knocks on the door.

The sound seemed even more eerie in the empty, silent villa.

Shi Yang's expression hardened. He went downstairs with the handrail and stood in the living room, staring at the doorway without making a sound.

"Hello, is anyone home? I'm from the property management. We've checked the circuit, and there's nothing wrong with it. It's probably a problem with one of your appliances. Could you please open the door so we can come in and take a look?"

The knocking grew more urgent, each knock louder than the last.

The knocking sounded urgent, and it seemed as if someone was kicking the door.

Those cries were like ghosts coming to claim lives in the dark of night.

Shi Yang was drenched in cold sweat, his body tense.

Just as she was staring intently at the door, her phone rang.

She flinched and almost threw her phone away.

She's like a frightened bird now; any sound could send her shivers down her spine.

"Yangyang, it's me, open the door."

A familiar, gentle voice reached her ears, and Shi Yang's eyes lit up. She ran to the door and saw Ji Peiheng on the electronic display screen.

She unlocked the door, opened it, and threw herself into the man's arms.

The man was soaked by the rain, his body cold and wet. Shi Yang felt that as long as she was near him, all the fear in her heart would be dispelled.

Ji Peiheng hugged her and patted her back gently, saying, "It's alright, I'm back."

Shi Yang was pleasantly surprised, staring intently at him: "Why did you suddenly come back?"

Ji Peiheng rubbed his forehead: "I've been restless all day, especially after you called me. I was really worried. I called Aunt Cui to ask her to take good care of you, only to find out she had taken the day off. And with the rain and thunder, you were home alone, so I took my private jet back to be with you."

He looked hurried, and his handsome features showed signs of fatigue. His clothes were soaked with rain, indicating that he was in such a rush that he hadn't even brought an umbrella.

Shi Yang hugged him tightly, like a little animal in dire need of comfort: "You're back, that's so good!"

She remembered something else: "So was that you knocking just now?"

In an instant, Ji Peiheng's eyelids drooped dangerously: "I didn't knock."

!

Shi Yang was terrified!

Shi Yang recounted what had just happened to him, and Ji Peiheng gave her a comforting kiss on the forehead.

Ji Peiheng first found a professional to repair the circuit, and the villa was reconnected to electricity. Shi Yang squinted to adjust to the sudden brightness.

The repairman said, "Mr. Ji, several of the electrical wires in your house appear to have been maliciously cut."

Sensing the unease in the person in his arms, Ji Peiheng tightened his grip on her: "I know, thank you for your hard work."

Half an hour later, Liao Nan arrived with the property manager.

Shi Yang then learned that the property management's phone line had been cut off two hours earlier, and the person who had been in contact with her from beginning to end was not from the property management!

Ji Peiheng's face was grim: "Did I underpay my property management fees? How could you make such a basic mistake and let suspicious and dangerous people in!"

The property manager hastily apologized.

Ji Peiheng interrupted coldly: "If you can't even guarantee the basic safety of the residents, I don't mind changing the property management team."

The property manager apologized and made promises.

Shi Yang remained silent; she was genuinely frightened.

Ji Peiheng issued an ultimatum: "I expect you to give me a reasonable explanation by tomorrow morning!"

Ji Peiheng changed out of his wet clothes, took a shower, got into bed, and held Shi Yang in his arms.

After a long period of comforting, Shi Yang gradually drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, she felt the person next to her move, and she immediately reached out and grabbed the man's wrist: "Where are you going?"

Ji Peiheng didn't miss the tension in her eyes and said softly, "You go to sleep first, I'll go make a phone call."

Are you going on another business trip today?

She knew he had been busy with development projects with the Jiang and Huang families recently. His business trip was originally scheduled for two weeks, but he returned after only one week, so there must be a lot of things left to do.

Ji Peiheng said, "I'm not going on business trips anymore; I'll stay home with you."

In fact, Ji Peiheng was really busy with a lot of things to do. He had Liao Nan rush over early this morning to take over the work he hadn't finished.

However, there are many things that he still needs to explain in person.

Despite this, Liao Nan was still somewhat apprehensive: "President Ji, perhaps you should come and handle this personally? This is a huge matter, I'm afraid..."

"No! She needs me, I have to stay with her!"

"You've been with me for so many years, I believe in your abilities."
