Chapter 70 Bloodbath on the Wasteland
The Forensic Department was brightly lit.
Gao Bohua saw them and came out of the dispatch room with a very serious expression. "Xi Li, Brother Li, Brother Wang, they're all here."
He pointed to a red dot on the map and said, "A large area of bloodstains has been found on the beach at the foot of the barren mountain in Longtan District. The situation is unusual."
"Team Leader Wei and his team have already cordoned off the scene. You should immediately take the forensic equipment and go there to provide support, and cooperate with the police to complete the on-site evidence collection."
"receive!"
The three of them picked up their survey kits, turned around and left, quickly boarding another car heading to Longtan District.
The official car sped along, the neon lights outside the window stretching into blurry streaks of light as they rushed past.
Lin Xili leaned against the car window, trying to calm her breathing.
But her heart was still pounding in her chest, and the warmth of Huo Nanchen still seemed to linger on her lips. The places where his fingers had touched were still burning hot.
She swiped her phone, hovered her fingertip over the screen for a moment, and typed a message before sending it.
There's an emergency at the scene. I'll probably be working all night. Go to sleep early and don't wait for me.
My phone vibrated quickly.
Huo Nanchen: [Okay, be careful.]
Lin Xili turned off the screen and put the phone back in her pocket.
She closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, all those romantic feelings in her mind had been forcibly cleared away, leaving only the calmness and focus unique to forensic personnel.
The vehicle eventually stopped at the foot of a desolate mountain.
The roof lights of several police cars rotated silently, their alternating blue and red lights shattering the surrounding tree shadows.
Lin Xili and his team carried the equipment case through waist-high bushes, and a strong smell of blood hit them.
Before me lay a desolate sandy beach connected to a murky river.
Wei Dongyang, from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, was shouting orders to his men to expand the cordon.
Because of his merit in the previous case involving the love potion, and several other cases, he has been transferred from the police station to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, where he serves as the head of the Criminal Investigation Division.
"Captain Wei!" Lin Xili called out.
Wei Dongyang turned around and saw them, his tense face relaxing a bit: "Old Gao is really quick, come and see."
He pointed with a powerful flashlight to several areas on the beach that were noticeably darker in color, which had been marked with evidence plaques.
"We received a call from an outdoor adventure enthusiast in the evening, saying that they saw a lot of blood here, which looked scary, so we came over."
"At first glance, the amount of bleeding is considerable, and the distribution is somewhat unusual."
Lin Xili squatted down, put on gloves, and turned on the survey light. Under the strong light, the dark brown details of the bloodstains in the sand were clearly visible.
She looked at it for a while, then looked up at Wei Dongyang and said, "Captain Wei, the blood here doesn't belong to just one person."
She pointed to several spots where the direction and shape of the spray were subtly different.
"Judging from the extent of the infiltration and the pattern of the bloodstains, it's at least five people's blood mixed together. And look here."
Lin Xili then pointed to a bloodstain with drag marks on the edge, "Someone cleaned up the scene, but it was done very hastily and roughly."
Wang, who was standing next to me, had already started using a sampler to separate the blood-stained sand from different areas and put it into sterile evidence bags, carefully labeling them.
Brother Li then shook the sample with the rapid testing kit. "Xi Li is right, the blood came from five people."
Wei Dongyang's brows furrowed: "Five people's blood?"
A young police officer nearby instinctively said, "Could it be a shootout?"
Wei Dongyang shook his head, denying the guess: "Ordinary street thugs wouldn't specifically come to a godforsaken place to fight."
"The road here is difficult to walk on, and no one usually comes here. It seems like a deliberately chosen location for the crime."
An ominous premonition weighed on everyone's mind; this was definitely not an ordinary security case.
Lin Xili and the other two immediately split up and began a thorough search, radiating outwards from the bloodstain area.
As the sky began to lighten, the people who had worked through the night could barely straighten their backs.
They sifted through the vast area almost inch by inch, collecting dozens of samples of sand, plant fibers, and various trace evidence.
Wei Dongyang led his officers to search the outer areas, leaving no suspicious corner unchecked.
Just then, a team member shouted anxiously from the bushes in the distance: "Team Leader Wei, there's something going on here!"
Everyone ran toward the sound.
Pushing aside the thorny brambles, a faint, putrid odor wafted into my nostrils.
In a shallow pit deep in the bushes lay a male corpse, which had not yet begun to decompose, and was surrounded by dried blood.
Wei Dongyang's face darkened after just one glance.
He stood up and said to Lin Xili and the others who had gathered around him, "It's Pang Long."
Seeing the puzzled expressions on Lin Xili and the others' faces, he explained:
"This local tyrant has a few henchmen who secretly sell ecstasy and other drugs in nightclubs, skirting the edge of illegality."
“The anti-drug team has been watching him for a long time, but he is very cunning and has strong counter-surveillance capabilities. We have never been able to find any solid evidence against him.”
Wei Dongyang paused, then added the most crucial piece of information.
"According to the intelligence we have, his core henchmen, including himself, number exactly five."
Five people.
This number matches the amount of bloodstains on the beach.
Everyone's expression turned unusually serious.
Lin Xili began examining the area around the body.
She noticed that the weeds not far from the body had been trampled, and there were some dried white lumps scattered on the ground, along with several disposable plastic bowls and spoons.
She crouched down and carefully scraped some white lumps and traces of dirt into the evidence bag.
Then, she took out a container, unscrewed a mineral water bottle, poured some water into it, and gestured for Brother Wang to put a little of the white sample he had just collected into it.
The dried white lumps slowly dispersed after coming into contact with water, turning into something resembling tofu pudding.
“Captain Wei,” Lin Xili looked up and calmly gave his conclusion, “there are remnants of tofu pudding at the scene.”
"Judging from these bowls, spoons, and spilled traces, these people, or at least some of them, ate tofu pudding before or after the incident."
This is an extremely important clue that can directly help the police pinpoint the group's lifestyle and activities.
Wei Dongyang nodded emphatically and wrote down this information.
He looked at the exhausted group who had stayed up all night, then at the sky, and gave the order: "The preliminary on-site investigation is complete. Everyone go back and rest, and stay in touch."
"The body will be immediately sent to the forensic department for autopsy to determine the specific cause and time of death."
"All physical evidence collected by forensic experts should be sent back to the laboratory for analysis as quickly as possible!"
With the order given, the nerves that had been tense all night finally relaxed a little.
Exhausted and carrying a large amount of evidence, the group began packing up their equipment and making their evacuation.
