Chapter 8 Questioning

Shi Jing returned home alone, only to find the house deserted and quiet.

The cleaning lady had already left, and the dinner she had prepared was placed on the table. It was clear that Ms. Yan hadn't eaten before leaving.

Since she was going out on a date with her boyfriend, they would probably have dinner together. He was an adult, so she didn't need to worry.

After eating by himself and washing the dishes, Shi Jing returned to his room to continue studying.

When the exam results came out, she clearly felt that her Chinese score was a bit low. Middle school Chinese isn't actually that complicated; it mainly relies on memorization, so she couldn't afford to lose too many points on that.

As usual, Shi Jing read until eleven o'clock, but Ms. Yan still hadn't returned. She didn't wait any longer and went to wash up and rest. In the middle of the night, she vaguely heard some noise, but she was too tired to get up.

The next morning, when Shi Jing got up, Ms. Yan's door was still closed, probably because she hadn't woken up yet.

The cleaning lady comes every afternoon to clean and cook dinner. Ms. Yan usually buys breakfast in the morning, but occasionally, like today, Shi Jing goes out and buys her own food.

Shi Jing hesitated for a moment at the door, but ultimately decided not to disturb the other person's rest. She placed the breakfast she had bought on the table and then walked to school.

Walking through the campus in the early morning, feeling the cool breeze on her face, Shi Jing felt a sudden and inexplicable sense of loss. She was momentarily at a loss.

Long ago, when she lost both her parents, she had similar feelings, but those feelings gradually subsided after she immersed herself in the virtual world. Now, for some reason, she suddenly feels an emptiness in her heart again.

Is this emotion her own or a remnant of the original owner? Is it because of Ms. Yan?

"System, is the original owner's soul still intact?"

Could it be that two souls are one?

The system calmly replied: "After the original owner died, he was reincarnated with the help of the Heavenly Dao. There is no situation of soul coexistence."

Shi Jing couldn't understand it.

This emotion came quickly and subsided just as fast.

When she walks into the classroom, she is once again the hardworking student who is wholeheartedly devoted to her studies.

She currently maintains a state of mutual respect and non-interference with her classmates, neither getting close nor hostile.

Shi Jing returned to his seat, took out his Chinese textbook, and began his morning reading.

Today's classes went smoothly. The last class in the morning was art appreciation. Shi Jing was about to go to the art room with her classmates when she saw the homeroom teacher appear at the classroom door.

His face was solemn, clearly indicating that he had come with ill intentions.

Sure enough, he said loudly at the door, "Shi Jing, come to my office now. The director has some questions for you about the midterm exams."

Shi Jing frowned slightly, wondering why the homeroom teacher was acting this way, and there was even a hint of smugness in his voice.

Some of the students who hadn't left the classroom were curious, while others looked bewildered.

Shi Jing put down his book and replied directly, "Okay, teacher."

She knows whether she plagiarized or not. Regardless of the homeroom teacher's purpose, she'll deal with whatever comes her way.

The homeroom teacher walked ahead, unable to hide his smugness, only becoming slightly more subdued as they approached the office. Upon entering the office, Shi Jing saw the dean of studies and the deputy director of the grade level inside.

She followed the homeroom teacher inside and greeted everyone one by one.

"Hello, Director Yu. Hello, Director Li."

"Please sit down, Shi. Don't be nervous. The teachers just want to ask you some questions." It was Director Li Tao who spoke, and his attitude was unusually kind.

Shi Jing nodded and, without being polite, found a place to sit down.

Director Yu, standing to the side, looked displeased. Although he did not object to Director Li's words, his expression darkened further.

The homeroom teacher was very proactive at this point and asked, "Shi, there are no other students in the office. Why don't you tell the teacher what method you used in that exam?"

Upon hearing this, Director Li spoke up: "Teacher Yu, there is currently no evidence to prove that student Shi cheated on the exam. You should be more cautious when questioning him."

Director Yu coughed lightly and said slowly, "Old Li, let's just watch and let Xiao Yu handle it himself."

The power struggle between the two directors puzzled Shi Jing. The exam room was monitored; this should have been an easy matter to clarify. Why were two directors jointly interrogating a young student like her?

She didn't hide her doubts and asked directly, "Director Yu, Director Li, teacher, I didn't cheat. The surveillance footage should be able to prove it, right?"

However, upon hearing Shi Jing's words, the homeroom teacher scoffed: "We have already reviewed the surveillance footage of your exam room. The camera in that classroom was tampered with, and your location was not fully captured on camera."

"Cheating is wrong. As a student, you should be able to admit your mistakes and correct them. If you honestly confess, the school will give you a chance to reform. Otherwise, don't blame the school for dealing with you seriously." The homeroom teacher's tone was very stern. And the implication in his words was that Shi Jing had already been convicted.

"Teacher, I didn't cheat. No matter how many times I say it, that's what I always say."

The homeroom teacher snorted coldly upon hearing this, clearly dissatisfied with Shi Jing's attitude.

At this point, Director Yu also spoke up: "The school prioritizes education and moral education, and students' character is of paramount importance. Although the surveillance footage didn't capture any evidence, you can't afford to take chances..."

Before Director Yu could finish his long speech, Director Li, standing beside him, interrupted him with dissatisfaction: "Director Yu, didn't we say before that we should listen to the students' opinions first? How can we make a decision so easily?"

As he spoke, he looked up at Shi Jing: "I proctored most of the exams in exam room 19, and I am quite certain that Shi did not cheat during those exams. We cannot judge a student's character based on preconceived notions. Although we have no evidence to prove that Shi did not cheat, we also have no evidence to prove that Shi cheated."

The homeroom teacher then spoke up, "That's simple. The school prepared two sets of exam papers for the midterm exam. Only one set was used in the exam. Just give her the other set to do, and that will prove she cheated, right?"

Director Li was very dissatisfied with the homeroom teacher's attitude. He glanced at Director Yu, who was standing calmly to the side, and knew that Director Yu must have been behind this man's actions.

The homeroom teacher was convinced that a poor student like Shi Jing couldn't possibly get good grades; he must have cheated. Therefore, he made no attempt to hide his intentions when proposing the testing plan.

Shi Jing was not as afraid of retaking the exam as he thought, but he was also not enthusiastic about it either.

She looked at her homeroom teacher: "Teacher, you're convinced that I, as a poor student, don't deserve good grades. What will you do if I retest and my grades don't drop?"

"If you can prove that you didn't cheat, then the teacher will be very happy." Even at this point, the homeroom teacher still believed that Shi Jing was just being stubborn.

"Teacher, if the results after the exam prove that I did not cheat, please apologize to me in front of the whole class and clear my name."

The homeroom teacher scoffed, "If you can really do well on the test, then fine."

Shi Jing sighed softly, increasingly finding this teacher rather foolish. Didn't he notice that Director Yu was already somewhat suspicious because of her resolute attitude?
