Chapter 15 Reunion

Although doing summer homework in the library was a bit of a waste, Shi Jing really didn't want to go back to the Shi family home and face those three people. If it weren't for Ms. Yan's insistence, she probably would have gone back long ago.

Although Ms. Yan didn't interfere much with her, this actually gave her freedom, allowing her to do whatever she wanted.

Although she and Ms. Yan disagreed on some matters, this did not affect her preference for spending time with Ms. Yan over Shi Hai.

When Shi Jing arrived at the library, it was already 1 p.m. He sat at the table and did his homework for two hours before getting up to stretch his limbs.

As she stood up, she happened to see a boy in front of her getting up to get something. She felt that he looked somewhat familiar, so she couldn't help but take a few more glances. Just then, the boy walked in her direction, and their eyes accidentally met as he looked up.

Feeling a little embarrassed at being caught, Shi Jing smiled and nodded in greeting. The boy paused slightly, then nodded back as a greeting before quickly heading towards the bookshelf area.

She stretched her arms and legs, went to the bathroom, and then came back to continue doing her homework, so focused that she wanted to finish all her summer homework in one afternoon.

However, there was a lot of homework. Even though she barely spent any time on other things, she only managed to finish most of her math homework in the afternoon, and hadn't even touched the other subjects.

Seeing that it was already 4:30, Uncle Chen sent her a message asking what time she would be back. The car to pick her up was already parked nearby, and Shi Jing finally got up.

After tidying up the books on the table, she was about to retrieve her stored schoolbag when she passed by the boy's desk and saw him diligently working on problems, which looked quite advanced.

She didn't linger; she just glanced at it and hurried away.

After this incident, Shi Jing did not keep it in mind.

After that, when she came to the library to study, she would run into this boy from time to time. Every day when she arrived, the boy was already there, and when she left, he was still diligently working on the problems.

Even the system couldn't help but admire this person's diligence. Shi Jing suddenly remembered that this person was the boy the system had praised before. Now that the weather is warmer and the clothes are thinner, he is still as thin as ever.

Shi Jing stayed at the Shi family home for four or five days. Every day, Uncle Chen would take her to the library early in the morning and pick her up around 4:30 in the evening to take her back to the Shi family home.

At first, Grandma was surprised, but after learning that she had gone to the library, she stopped worrying about it.

However, on the fifth day, at the dinner table at the Shi family's house, Qiu Tongyao suddenly mentioned in a sarcastic tone that Shi Jing went to the library early every morning and didn't return until evening.

"Xiao Jing, you've been studying so hard lately, you haven't had time to spend with Grandma. Don't get too thin from all that work," Qiu Tongyao said, feigning concern.

Upon hearing this, Shi Jing immediately realized that the other party was trying to sow discord between her and Shi Jing. Could it be that she had been leaving early and returning late every day these past few days and had been too good-natured, giving the other party the illusion that she was easy to bully?

She stopped picking up food and looked at the pretentious woman: "Yes, Aunt Qiu. You've worked so hard, you haven't had time to spend with Grandma. Luckily, Grandma loves me and is very understanding."

"Hehe, Xiao Jing should also take more rest," Qiu Tongyao added.

"Yes, thank you for your concern, Auntie. But the high school entrance exam is next year, and the workload is too heavy. I can only try my best during the summer vacation," Shi Jing said. "Auntie, you don't seem to be very busy lately. Why don't you spend more time with Grandma? With you and your unborn grandson by her side, Grandma will definitely be very happy."

Before Qiu Tongyao could object, she looked at her adoptive grandmother and said, "Grandma, you agree, right?"

Grandma Shi glanced at Qiu Tongyao's belly, a smile appearing on her face. Although the old lady had some doubts because of Shi Jing's words, she was still more inclined to believe that the child in Qiu Tongyao's belly was her own grandson. With technology so advanced these days, she believed that the other party wouldn't dare to deceive their family by carrying someone else's child.

"Yes, yes. She'll be giving birth in a few months. She should stay home and rest more during her pregnancy, and spend time with her old lady."

Shi Jing gave Qiu Tongyao a provocative look with a smile, which immediately made the other girl feel suffocated. She couldn't help but turn to Shi Hai for help. Shi Hai, however, was someone who didn't get involved in the struggles between his wife and his mother, and after hearing his mother's words, he felt that she was right.

Since Qiu Tongyao became pregnant, especially in the last few months, she has been going out shopping with three or five girlfriends from time to time. After this happened so often, Shi Hai couldn't help but have some doubts.

He wasn't a very tolerant person, especially since the woman was pregnant and still wasn't staying still. He, who desperately wanted a son, was worried that the pregnant woman would keep going out and cause some kind of accident.

When his daughter brought it up at the dinner table, Shi Hai went along with it, saying, "Mom is right. You should stay home and spend more time with Mom."

Qiu Tongyao shot herself in the foot, and you can imagine how frustrated she felt.

The hatred in her eyes was undisguised as she looked at Shi Jing, but Shi Jing didn't tolerate it and immediately asked, "Auntie, are you unhappy?"

Shi Hai and Grandma Shi looked over at the same time. Qiu Tongyao's face stiffened, and she said awkwardly, "No, Xiao Jing, you must have seen wrong."

"Really? Auntie glared at me. I thought you didn't want to spend time with Grandma." She replied with a smile, "When your little brother is born, Grandma will definitely have to spend more time with him. What will you do if you don't like Grandma?"

"No, Xiao Jing, you've misunderstood me." She then looked at Shi Hai with a wronged expression.

"Xiao Jing, you must have seen it wrong." Shi Hai readily explained to his wife, who was being coquettish.

Shi Jing didn't insist, and smiled, saying, "Really? Then I must be seeing things."

Even so, Grandma Shi had taken it to heart, and her eyes turned unfriendly, but she didn't say anything.

It was clear that Grandma Shi had always harbored resentment towards Qiu Tongyao, but she hadn't made a scene because of the baby in Qiu Tongyao's belly. However, this was none of Shi Jing's business. After stirring things up, Shi Jing continued eating. After finishing her meal, she put her bowl and chopsticks on the table and looked at her adoptive father: "Dad, the school requires us to participate in volunteer service. I signed up for the weekend activities at the community next to my current apartment complex and plan to go back tomorrow."

She didn't actually want to get too involved with the Shi family; she was only staying here these past few days to give Ms. Yan face.

Grandma Shi, however, looked somewhat displeased. She had always been dissatisfied with the fact that Shi Jing's custody had been awarded to Ms. Yan, but since it was her son's decision, she couldn't object.

He couldn't help but glance at Qiu Tongyao, his dissatisfaction with her increasing.

Shi Jing pretended not to see it and looked directly at Shi Hai.

Shi Hai didn't care that much. He was busy comforting his young wife and didn't pay attention to his mother. He just casually agreed.

Grandma Shi was so angry she turned into a pufferfish, she was just short of sticking the words "vixen" on Qiu Tongyao's forehead.

Having received a reply, Shi Jing ignored the three of them, finished her meal, and went upstairs.
