Chapter Twenty-Five: The Crown Prince's Visit

"Miss Ouyang, I have something to attend to, so let's part ways here." After walking with Ouyang Xinxi to the street connecting to the slum, Nan Wusi suddenly spoke.

"Ah!" Ouyang Xinxi cried out softly, like a startled rabbit.

"Miss Nan, I...can we be friends?" Ouyang Xinxi mustered up her courage before finally speaking her mind.

"Of course you can. You can come to the General's Mansion to play with me anytime you have time." Nan Wusi smiled slightly. She also liked this kind, cute, and timid girl very much. As the legitimate daughter of the Prime Minister's Mansion, Ouyang Xinxi had none of the bad temper of a noble lady because of her own circumstances. She was also small in stature, just like a girl next door.

"Really? That's great! I'll definitely come visit you!" Ouyang Xinxi exclaimed, then said goodbye to Nan Wusi and left first.

After Ouyang Xinxi left, Nan Wusi's smile vanished instantly, and he turned to look at the tree on the other side.

"Who's following me? Should I ask you to come out?"

After Nan Wusi finished speaking, she received no response. She quickly pulled out her hairpin and shot it at the tree. A person rolled down from the tree instantly, but then got up and ran away quickly.

Nan Wusi ran over and found a token lying under the tree. Nan Wusi naturally didn't recognize it; she planned to take the token back to show her second brother.

"Your Highness." Xuan Li returned to Prince Yi's residence after Nan Wusi returned.

"how?"

“Miss Nan single-handedly defeated more than a dozen people today,” Xuan Li replied.

"Could it be that I've misunderstood?" Xiao Yi muttered to himself.

"Read her information to me again."

"Yes, Your Highness." Xuan Li read all the information he had collected about Nan Wusi to Xiao Yi one by one.

Upon returning to the General's Mansion, Nan Wusi went directly to find her second brother, Nan Wuyu. Since Nan Wuyu usually stayed in his study, Nan Wusi found him easily.

"Little sister, where did you get this token?" Nan Wuyu examined the token in his hand with a solemn expression.

“Today I discovered someone was following me. After I knocked that person down, he fell to the ground,” Nan Wusi explained. “Second Brother, what kind of token is this?”

“This is the Crown Prince’s secret guard order,” Nan Wuyu said. “I didn’t expect the Crown Prince to still be so treacherous, actually sending secret guards to follow you. It’s truly despicable.”

"It's actually the Crown Prince." Nan Wusi was also surprised. Why would the Crown Prince be following her for no reason?

"No, I have to tell Father about this." Nan Wuyu didn't want his younger sister to get involved in the power struggle within the imperial court.

"Oh." Nan Wusi didn't have any other thoughts. She wasn't interested in these power struggles, nor did she bother to guess their intentions. She could just leave it to her second brother and father to handle. She just wanted to be a nobody, far removed from the main characters, someone who didn't need to rise in status.

To everyone's surprise, the very next day, Xiao Mu paid a direct visit to the General's Mansion.

Both Nan Tianba and Nan Wuyu went to receive the Crown Prince, and also sent someone to inform Nan Wusi.

"General Nan, Junior Minister of Agriculture Nan, I have come today to apologize to Miss Nan." Xiao Mu made no attempt to hide anything; knowing Nan Wusi as he did, he was certain that Nan Tianba would be informed of this matter.

"What makes you say that, Your Highness?" Nan Tianba remained calm, wanting to hear Xiao Mu's explanation.

"Yesterday, I happened to see Miss Nan carrying a lot of things into the slums. I was afraid that something might happen to her, so I sent my guards to follow her. I didn't expect that this would disturb Miss Nan. I'm really sorry." Xiao Mu dared to come today, naturally he had thought of how to explain.

"I suppose Miss Nan was still shaken after her fight with the thieves yesterday, which is why she mistakenly thought they were following her. I blame myself for not thinking things through; I should have accompanied Miss Nan myself." Xiao Mu said with a regretful expression.

"What? My little sister encountered thieves yesterday?" Nan Wuyu couldn't help but get excited when he heard Xiao Mu say that Nan Wusi had encountered thieves and even fought with them. His little sister hadn't even told him about such a big thing yesterday.

"What, Miss Nan didn't mention this? That's right, Miss Nan is highly skilled in martial arts, so a bunch of petty thieves are naturally no threat to her." Xiao Mu continued to praise, "According to my secret guard, Miss Nan quickly knocked more than a dozen people to the ground yesterday, and he didn't even have a chance to make a move."

"Does Your Highness wish to apologize to my daughter in person today?" Nan Tianba suddenly asked.

"If you can apologize in person, that would be wonderful," Xiao Mu said with delight. He hadn't expected Nan Tianba to be so understanding today.

Nan Wusi, who was in the room, was stunned when she heard this. What was her cheap old man up to?

However, given the current situation, she had no choice but to go. So, she reluctantly went to the front hall, and then reluctantly accepted Xiao Mu's apology, as well as a whole bunch of gifts.

"Your Highness, I wonder if you could return my hairpin?" At this moment, Nan Wusi suddenly remembered that she had used her own hairpin to knock down the guard.

"I'm so sorry, Miss Nan, that hairpin is ruined. I'll replace it for you," Xiao Mu replied politely.

"Oh, it's fine if it's broken, it's not anything valuable anyway." Nan Wusi waved his hand casually.

“No, Miss Nan, you must accept this, otherwise I will not feel at ease,” Xiao Mu said earnestly.

"Okay then." Nan Wusi felt a headache coming on; talking to a narcissist and chauvinist like Xiao Mu was exhausting.

What Nan Wusi found most unbearable was that Nan Tianba actually invited Xiao Mu to stay for dinner. This was inappropriate, extremely inappropriate. However, Nan Wusi could only complain in his heart for now.
