"I see." Nan Wusi nodded.
"I'll go pick up the things." Ouyang Xinxi was observant and noticed that many things were scattered on the ground during the fight, so she ran over and squatted down to pick them up.
The children realized what was happening and ran to help. In no time, all the things scattered on the ground were picked up.
Everyone took everything to Hu Zi's house and laid it on the table. Many of the foods were unpackaged and covered in mud, some even being stepped on.
Nan Wusi frowned. "It seems most of them are inedible. Leaves, throw them away."
"Yes, Miss." Ye Zi put all the soiled food into a package, intending to throw it away together.
"Sister Yezi," Hu Zi called out to her, then whispered to Nan Wusi, "Sister Nan, there are quite a few that aren't very dirty and are edible." Hu Zi's voice trailed off, as if he felt a little embarrassed.
Seeing the regret and reluctance in the eyes of the other children, Nan Wusi was at a loss for words.
"Miss Nan, could you let the children choose the edible parts themselves?" Ouyang Xinxi asked softly from the side. She understood what the children were thinking, but her head was lowered so much that it hid her slightly flushed expression.
"Alright," Nan Wusi said helplessly, "but you absolutely must not eat the dirty parts." She still instructed.
Actually, she hadn't thought that much about it; she could just buy more after a while. But after Ouyang Xinxi spoke up, she began to understand the children's thoughts. On days without food, they had probably eaten even worse things.
"Sigh." Nan Wusi could only sigh inwardly. She couldn't change the situation in the slums, so she couldn't let these children become ungrateful. So she watched helplessly as the children clumsily picked out some food that wasn't too dirty, and then, under her supervision, removed the dirty parts.
Even so, the children still enjoyed their meal.
"My benefactor, Miss Ouyang, Miss Ye, please have some water." Tiger's mother brought out several cups of water from the kitchen and presented them to them.
"Thank you." Nan Wusi saw that Hu Zi's mother was in much better spirits and must have recovered.
"I'm all better now, my benefactor." Tiger's mother noticed what Nanwu was thinking and asked.
"Well, that's good. What are your plans for the future?" Nan Wusi asked, not knowing what Tiger's mother used to do.
"I don't have any special skills, but I can do some odd jobs. I'm planning to go out and look for work these days," Tiger's mother replied.
"Do you need my help?"
"No need, no need." Tiger's mother quickly waved her hand. She had already received such a great favor, how could she dare to ask her benefactor to help her find work?
Namo Si nodded and did not insist.
"My benefactor, you must be careful of these thugs today. They've been keeping watch over you ever since you left last time. Although you gave them a good beating this time, they're all wicked and might pull some underhanded tricks," Tiger's mother said worriedly.
"Okay, I understand. I'll be careful," Nan Wusi said, indicating that she understood.
