Chapter 19 Monster Town

Chapter 19 Monster Town

The man's expression looked calm, with light and shadow falling on his eyelashes when he glanced sideways, without a trace of emotion.

The cat was also quite calm, but the newcomer was startled.

After a few seconds of silence, the newcomer whispered to Yin Xiu again, "Excuse me, are you a player too?"

Yin Xiu nodded, turned his gaze away from the newcomer, and continued to look up at the cat.

The cat no longer looked at the newcomer, but licked its paws under Yin Xiu's gaze, then jumped on the branch as if it was about to jump down.

"It's just right. I'm also a player. I just came out from over there. What are you looking at the cat here?" The newcomer moved over cautiously and unconsciously got closer to Yin Xiu. He was surprised to see a player in this place. He even thought he was the first person to come out.

Yin Xiu's indifference also made him inexplicably excited, as if he had discovered the treasure before others.

"It should be the cat leading the way, but it didn't move at all when I was alone." Yin Xiu raised his chin slightly and took a small step back. The cat jumped down from the tree with a swift movement, and its movements were very agile.

"It seems that at least two people are needed for there to be a reaction..." Yin Xiu glanced at the newcomer beside him. He didn't know whether it was because there must be a roommate in this copy, which resulted in two people being required to start the cat. But he left Li Mo at home just in case. If this newcomer didn't come, he would have to wait a while.

"How do you know it's the cat leading the way?" The newcomer followed Yin Xiu timidly, watching him follow the cat.

"Guessed." Yin Xiu answered calmly.

After the cat jumped down, it walked towards the town gracefully, wagging its tail. The white collar on its neck was very conspicuous on its black body.

The newcomer stared at it for a moment, then suddenly realized, "It has a collar. Is it being kept by someone?"

"Maybe." Yin Xiu responded, squinting his eyes and looking at the town in the distance.

When viewed from a distance during the day, the town already exudes a subtle sense of disharmony. There are many lights at night, and there should be many people in the town, but for some reason it is very quiet, especially quiet.

The only sound on the entire road that seemed somewhat lifelike was their footsteps. The wind rustled through the branches, but there were no insects chirping or birds singing. Even when they were almost at the entrance of the town, they still couldn't hear any signs of normal life in the town. It was very strange.

The newbie took a deep breath and stammered, "I, this is my first time in a dungeon. I don't have much experience, so I might be a drag on you... I hope you don't look down on me."

Yin Xiu responded coldly, looking straight ahead, and followed the cat into the town.

This small town is not very developed yet. There are still many places where the ground is paved with bluestone slabs, and weeds are growing between the cracks in the stones. But overall it looks acceptable. The ground is clean, the houses are solid, and every household has its own yard and a piece of land. At first glance, there seems to be nothing wrong with it, except that it is too quiet.

As soon as he stepped into the town, Yin Xiu felt a chill pervading the place. The gloomy and dark feeling hit him in the face, even instantly blocking out the bright sunshine.

As soon as they came in, there were many people staring at them from behind the glass of the houses on both sides, and their gazes were closely fixed on them, dark and unclear.

Yin Xiu stopped at the roadside at the entrance of the town and stared at an old, moss-covered stone tablet.

Tomb Town Rules:

1. Children are strictly prohibited from touching the altar in the square at night. No matter what you see, you must pretend not to see it and leave quickly.

2. There are no female ghosts in the town. If you accidentally see a woman in white in the town, please avoid her sight and do not listen to her voice. If she pesters you, please seek help from other townspeople.

3. During the day, strange creatures will appear in the town disguised as townspeople. Please be careful to distinguish them and do not be invited into their homes. The probability of encountering strange creatures during the day is very high, so please try not to go out.

4. The town must remain welcoming to outsiders, but if they break the rules, do not show mercy.

5. Outsiders may be allowed to watch the sacrificial ceremony, but they must be strictly advised not to violate the first and second rules.

6. Do not let outsiders who accidentally break the rules leave alive.

Yin Xiu's eyes fell on the rules on the stone tablet. Some of the rules had become blurred by wind and rain, while some of the rules were very clear, as if they had been engraved recently.

For example, the second half of the third article, "The probability of encountering strange things during the day is very high, try not to go out," is very new and seems crowded in the paragraph. It was engraved recently, so the probability of encountering strange things was also raised recently.

"This, this sixth item... feels so dangerous, and there's even a sacrificial ceremony here?" The newcomer's face turned pale. From the last item, he could clearly feel that the town's attitude towards outsiders who violated the rules was very ruthless, and they were these outsiders.

"Yeah." Yin Xiu quickly went over the rules in his mind. After he almost memorized them, he turned around and continued to follow the cat.

The gazes on both sides of the road lingered for a long time. These indigenous people stared at them intently. Perhaps there was a rule that told them not to go out during the day, so they all hid at home without showing their heads.

As the two followed the black cat and gradually approached the square, someone creaked open the door on the side, half of his face was immersed in darkness and half was exposed to sunlight.

He was an old man with a frail, pale complexion. He stretched out his withered hand and waved towards Yin Xiu, his voice hoarse, "You two young men are from outside, right? Have you seen the stone tablet at the door? ... It's very dangerous during the day. Don't wander around town. Come to my grandfather's house and take shelter."

The newcomer glanced at him blankly, then turned his gaze back to Yin Xiu, who continued walking forward without paying any attention. "Are you going to ignore him?"

"If you pay attention to him, he will die." Yin Xiu said calmly: "Look at his feet."

The newcomer immediately cast his gaze towards the old man's feet. Inside the room behind him, a figure lay on the ground not far behind him, almost obscured by the darkness inside, making it difficult to discern.

The newcomer squinted his eyes and looked hard. After seeing clearly what it was, he took a deep breath and tremblingly moved closer to Yin Xiu. "It's, it's a corpse... It's exactly the same corpse as that old man..."

"Yeah." Yin Xiu's voice was cold and indifferent. He had no reaction to the corpse or the unknown existence.

Rule three clearly states that during the day someone disguised as a townsperson would greet people into the house, but I didn't expect them to be greeted right away. If someone hadn't read the rules and was more careless, they would probably have been fooled.

"Young man, I'm serious. It's been very dangerous in this town recently. I'm old, what can I do to you? Come in quickly." The old man still waved to them persistently, his dry and lifeless eyes staring at the two people's gradually receding backs, exuding some resentment.

Seeing that neither of them was fooled, the "old man" gritted his teeth viciously and slammed the door shut.

The two sides of the road returned to silence again, and Yin Xiu followed the black cat to the center of the square.

As soon as you enter this area, you can feel a chill more clearly. The suffocating coldness that envelopes the entire town is emanating from here.

In the center of the square stood a statue of a woman's head, but on this cold head of the statue, there was a huge nail nailed on it, which was inserted straight into the woman's forehead. The woman's pupils were wide open and she stared straight at the sky. Her eyes seemed to emit a resentment before death and were glaring. The whole sculpture made people feel cold at a glance.

But what is even more horrifying is that there are yellow talismans pasted on the statue, and red lines are connected and wrapped around the entire huge statue. The talismans are densely packed, and unknown formations are engraved on the ground. There are dark brown marks left between the twisted gullies.

In front of the statue was a bluestone platform, on which was a large patch of black, sticky hair tangled together, emitting a foul odor.

This is probably the sacrificial site mentioned in the town rules.
