Chapter Sixty-Four: They Disappeared

When Ning Huan heard Pang's question, she replied while tidying up, "Okay, you can sleep on the bed with the four little ones, and I'll sleep on the floor."

Madam Pang glanced at the four little ones who weren't in the room and said softly, "Daughter, what I mean is, why don't you sleep in the same room as your husband?"

Then she advised, "I know you and your son-in-law don't get along very well, but what couple sleeps separately? Sleeping in the same bed will help strengthen your relationship, won't it?"

Ning Huan almost choked on her water upon hearing this. She quickly said, "Mother, my husband is injured right now, so it's not convenient for the two of us to sleep together."

"Besides, I'm a restless sleeper. If I accidentally bump into his wound while sleeping, it might cause more harm."

After hearing Ning Huan's explanation, Pang Shi said nothing more.

The next morning, Ning Huan took the four little ones up the mountain. The little ones had never been up a mountain before, so everything they saw was very novel to them.

The little three looked around, occasionally picking wildflowers and weeds to hold in their hands.

Ning Huan warned them not to wander off, as there were many hidden traps on the mountain, and they would definitely get hurt if they accidentally stepped on one.

While pulling Little Three to look at the even prettier wildflowers nearby, Little Two replied, "Okay, Mom, we promise we won't run around."

Da Bao was a little worried, so he followed behind Xiao Er Bao and Xiao San Bao to keep an eye on them.

Ning Huan then felt relieved and began gathering herbs, while Xiao Sibao followed her around.

She asked curiously, "Are you two interested in herbs?"

Xiao Sibao nodded, then pointed to the herbs in Ning Huan's hand and said, "I think it's amazing that Mommy can collect herbs to make money."

"magic?"

Xiao Sibao replied, "Yes, they are all grass, but the grass that Erbao and Sanbao brothers pick is just wild grass that they can play with and has no other use, while the grass that Mother picks is medicinal grass that can be exchanged for money."

"And it can even cure diseases and save lives, isn't that amazing!"

Seeing how excited Xiao Sibao was, Ning Huan told him more about herbs.

He also taught her about many herbs.

"Look, this plant is called Chicken Blood Grass. It's named so because after it's picked, it oozes a bright red sap that looks like chicken blood."

As she spoke, Ning Huan picked the chicken blood grass and handed it to Xiao Sibao:

"Moreover, this chicken blood grass can replenish a lot of blood and qi in a short time. The redder the color of the juice, the better the quality, the better the effect, and the higher the price."

Xiao Sibao took it and looked at it, then rummaged through the grass and called to Ning Huan: "Mom, look at this, isn't it chicken blood grass?"

Ning Huan looked in the direction Xiao Sibao was pointing and saw a chicken blood grass of decent quality.

She patted Xiao Sibao's head and praised him, "Xiao Sibao is so smart, you found the right one, this is chicken blood grass. Go and pick it yourself."

It wasn't that Ning Huan was deliberately praising Xiao Sibao. This chicken blood herb is not easy to distinguish. Xiao Sibao is so young, but just by watching her pick one, she was able to remember the characteristics of the chicken blood herb and then find the chicken blood herb herself.

This shows that Xiao Sibao is really smart; perhaps she has a talent for recognizing herbs.

Thinking of this, Ning Huan tried picking a few herbs for Xiao Sibao and patiently explained their characteristics and uses to her.

Unexpectedly, Xiao Sibao recognized them all, and Ning Huan touched Xiao Sibao's face in surprise.

Just as she was about to introduce other medicinal herbs to Xiao Sibao, Xiao Sibao noticed that his three older brothers seemed to have disappeared from the surroundings.

She asked, "Mother, where are my eldest brother, second brother, and third brother?"

Only then did Ning Huan realize that Da Bao, Xiao Er Bao, and Xiao San Bao had disappeared from the side, and in the quiet, she could not even hear them talking.

She panicked slightly and quickly called out, "Da Bao? Er Bao? San Bao?"

Apart from the whistling wind, there was no other sound on the empty grassland.

Ning Huan hurriedly carried Xiao Sibao on her back and began searching for Dabao, Xiao Erbao, and Xiao Sanbao, but she couldn't see them anywhere in the direction they had just walked.

Little Sibao asked fearfully, "Mom, where did they go? Could they have been eaten by wild animals?"

Because on the way here, Ning Huan kept telling them not to run around, and even used the threat of man-eating wild animals on the mountain to scare the four little ones.

Now that Da Bao, Er Bao, and Xiao San Bao are missing, Xiao Si Bao is naturally worried that they might be in danger.

Otherwise, how could three perfectly healthy people just disappear?

Ning Huan heard the fear in Xiao Sibao's voice and quickly comforted him, "No, we didn't hear any wild animal sounds just now. They must have run far away to play and couldn't find their way back."

Xiao Sibao nodded with some doubt, then buried his head tightly in Ning Huan's back.

She felt Xiao Sibao's movements and gently tugged at him, saying, "Don't worry, Mommy will find them. Don't be afraid, Mommy is here, I will protect you."

Xiao Sibao felt incredibly warm by the words the woman in front of her spoke. At that moment, she felt as if even if there were man-eating beasts lurking around, she wouldn't be afraid anymore.

So this is what it feels like to have a mother's love and care?

Ning Huan led the four little ones a long way but couldn't find the three little dumplings. She was covered in sweat but didn't bother to wipe it off.

Just as she was anxiously wondering how to find Da Bao and the others, she looked down and noticed a few wildflowers that Xiao San Bao had just picked hanging on the grass beside her.

Then, a few more small wild grasses were found not far away.

Xiao Sibao pointed out and said, "These look like the few that Erbao picked earlier."

Seeing this, Ning Huan quickly followed the direction and soon heard what sounded like faint crying not far away.

She quickly called out, "Da Bao? Er Bao? San Bao? Are you over here?!"

After calling out several times, several familiar voices soon called out: "Mom, it's me! Help!"

"Mother! Please get me out of here!"

Hearing a response, Ning Huan quickly ran towards the direction of the sound.

She saw that the three little ones, Da Bao, Xiao Er Bao, and Xiao San Bao, had fallen into a large pit, which must have been a trap set by hunters.

Ning Huan asked anxiously, "Are you injured?"

The little three shouted, "We're okay, but it seems like Big Brother's foot is injured!"

Fortunately, there were no deadly traps at the bottom of the trap, otherwise the three little ones would have died the moment they fell in.

Da Bao's foot was probably twisted when he fell in. Ning Huan stood up and looked over. She saw that he could barely stand up, so she judged that he probably hadn't broken any bones.
