Chapter Sixteen: A Sudden Attack on the Heart

The four little ones stammered, then said, "We just came to tell Daddy we don't want him to die..."

"We want him to stay with us forever..."

Seeing the four little ones looking aggrieved, Zhou Jing'an frowned and said, "Why are you being so harsh with the children? They suddenly came to me saying all this, isn't it because you bullied them that they're acting like this!"

Ning Huan was so angry at Zhou Jing'an's inexplicable accusation that she laughed: "When did I bully them?"

"Otherwise, why would they come over crying?"

"Then why don't you ask them why they're crying!"

"Do I even need to ask? It's definitely you, you vicious woman, who bullied the child!"

Zhou Lan watched the two people arguing like children. She quickly tried to mediate, saying, "Alright, alright, stop arguing!"

Then she gently patted the little ones' heads: "Tell your auntie, why are you crying?"

Xiao Sibao said softly, "Because the little rabbit that the bad woman brought back yesterday was injured and died, we were very sad to see the little rabbit die."

Little Erbao added, "Then we remembered that Daddy was sick, and we were afraid that Daddy would die like the little rabbit. So we ran to find Daddy..."

After hearing what Xiao Sibao said, Ning Huan could roughly understand what happened next. Zhou Jing'an thought that he had bullied the four little ones and made them cry.

Zhou Jing'an drank a tonic soup last night, and his body is still absorbing the highly nourishing herbs without digesting them.

Seeing the crying little dumpling again, they misunderstood that Ning Huan was bullying them, and for a moment their blood and qi surged.

Regardless, Zhou Jing'an did vomit blood. Zhou Lan asked anxiously, "Sister-in-law, should we try to find a doctor in town right now? Jing'an vomited such a large amount of blood, there must be something wrong with his health."

Ning Huan shook her head and said, "He's fine. This is just a pent-up feeling in his heart. Once he vomits it out, he'll feel much better."

Hearing Ning Huan say that, Zhou Jing'an did feel much better after spitting out that mouthful of blood.

A look of guilt crossed Zhou Jing'an's face; it turned out he had misunderstood Ning Huan.

Thinking about his attitude towards Ning Huan earlier, he felt a little guilty.

Just as he was about to say something, four little bundles of joy rushed up from the side and surrounded Zhou Jing'an. Then they hugged him and cried, "Daddy, the little rabbit didn't move after it died, we are so sad."

Little Sibao hugged Zhou Jing'an tightly and said, "Daddy, you must take good care of yourself. I don't want you to leave me!"

Seeing this, Ning Huan knew everything was alright, smiled, shook her head, and left.

When Zhou Jing'an saw Ning Huan's back, he wanted to call out to her, but he stopped himself just as he was about to speak.

Following behind Ning Huan, Zhou Lan said somewhat embarrassedly, "Sister-in-law, thank you so much for today. Otherwise, Jing An vomiting blood would have scared me to death."

Ning Huan waved her hand and said, "It's alright. I can only barely examine his body. If he really needs treatment, we still have to go to town to find a doctor."

Zhou Lan nodded in agreement: "Then once the Zhu family's ox is able to walk again in a couple of days, we'll go to town immediately to fetch a doctor for Jing'an."

The two walked into the kitchen as they talked; the pastries they had made were now ready.

Zhou Lan walked over and saw the fragrant pastries, and couldn't help but praise, "Third sister-in-law, I never knew you had such skills. These pastries smell so good."

Ning Huan said modestly, "I only know how to cook some simple dishes, nothing to mention."

The two brought the fragrant pastries to Zhou Jing'an's room.

Zhou Lan went out and called four little ones in to try some noodles and snacks. She found them burying the dead rabbit in the yard, so she went to help.

At this moment, Zhou Jing'an and Ning Huan were alone in the room. Ning Huan picked up a pastry and handed it to Zhou Jing'an: "This pastry is fresh out of the oven. I have already tasted it, and it is not poisonous."

Zhou Jing'an remained silent for a while before speaking, "Ning Huan."

She was taken aback when she heard Zhou Jing'an address her by her full name.

Thinking about his attitude towards Ning Huan just now, Zhou Jing'an hesitated for a long time before saying, "I'm sorry about just now. I was too excited. Please don't mind."

Ning Huan raised an eyebrow, then said calmly, "It's good that you're alright."

To be honest, she was quite surprised to hear Zhou Jing'an apologize.

After all, Zhou Jing'an usually has a cold and aloof demeanor, and besides, he will be the biggest villain in the book in the future. Who has the ability to make him apologize?

Although Ning Huan didn't care, Zhou Jing'an still said, "I've just thought about it seriously. Since you were honest with me before, I shouldn't keep doubting you."

"Don't worry, I won't doubt you like that again. As long as you treat the little ones well and don't hit or scold them, I will definitely treat you with great respect."

Ning Huan nodded in agreement; Zhou Jing'an was right. The original owner of this body had always been prone to beating and scolding the four little ones; no one could easily accept that.

She said, "Okay, I promise you. Actually, I've recently not only figured out our relationship, but I've also reflected on how I interact with the little ones."

“My feelings for them before were just an accessory to maintain our relationship. I never cared about their intentions or thoughts, and I didn’t care about disciplining them. I acted entirely according to my own will, and I was definitely wrong in all of that.”

"But now I understand. They are also flesh and blood of my flesh. Even if we divorce in the future, they will still be my children. I want to raise them well, which is the only thing I, as their mother, can give them."

Zhou Jing'an nodded: "I am very pleased that you could think of these things."

Just as the two had made up, Zhou Lan walked in with four little children.

Little Sanbao saw the fragrant pastries on the table and happily ran over: "Wow, there's something delicious!"

Three little bundles of joy followed behind.

Just as Xiao Sanbao was about to reach out to take it, he noticed Ning Huan's hand suddenly stop in mid-air and then abruptly pull it back.

"Eat up, these are the dumplings your mother made for you little ones."

Zhou Lan smiled and patted their heads, but even so, the four little ones still didn't dare to move.

They all remembered that once, the wicked woman beat the four little ones severely because they had eaten the eggs first. The four little ones were in so much pain that they couldn't get out of bed for five days, and she didn't even give them a bite to eat.

They even said they would make them go hungry to teach them a lesson.

Later, it was Grandma Zhou, the little ones' grandmother, who heard about it and rushed to the Zhou family to save the four little ones.

From then on, they never dared to eat in front of bad women again.
