Chapter Fifteen: Good Intentions Misunderstood

Since they couldn't go to town today, Ning Huan thought she'd make something delicious for the little ones.

Zhou Lan also assisted, and watching Ning Huan skillfully make pastries, she said in surprise, "I didn't expect you to be so skillful, Third Sister-in-law, that you can make such beautiful pastries?"

“I remember when I was at home, my mother asked you to cook, and you almost burned the kitchen down.”

Ning Huan explained, "I learned it by accident before."

Zhou Lan sighed and said, "Now that you've separated the family, you have to do everything yourself. My third sister-in-law used to be unable to cook, but now she's become so skillful."

Hearing this, Ning Huan gave an awkward smile.

The four little ones in the yard were playing happily when Xiao Sanbao thought of going to check on the injured little rabbit from last night.

But they found that the little rabbit had stopped moving.

He anxiously called over the other three little bunnies: "Why isn't the little rabbit moving!"

Xiao Sibao is still young and naively thought the little rabbit was just asleep: "If it's not moving, it's still sleeping. The little rabbit is tired, so let it sleep a little longer."

Da Bao shook his head and said, "The little rabbit isn't asleep, it's dead."

The three little treasures and the four little treasures heard the eldest treasure say that the little rabbit had died.

They were stunned for a moment, then the two little ones burst into tears: "How could it just die like that!"

It wasn't just the youngest and fourth children who were heartbroken; the eldest and second children were also very sad.

So this cute little rabbit, which was perfectly fine yesterday, is now stiff and motionless.

The four little ones had never been interested in death, so they didn't think much of it.

But now, looking at the little rabbit lying on the ground...

They finally realized they were afraid, and tears streamed down their faces like a broken string of pearls.

Little Sanbao cried and said, "My aunt and the others said that Daddy's injuries might get serious and he might die. Will Daddy end up like the little rabbit?"

Da Bao was silent for a moment, then nodded after a long while.

Now the fourth and third babies cried even harder, and even the second baby started crying too.

Ning Huan heard the noise and went out of the house. She saw Xiao Sanbao squatting on the ground, wiping away tears with his little hands, while Xiao Sibao was crying with tears streaming down his face and his big eyes were red.

She stepped forward and asked, "What's wrong with you? Why are you crying like this all of a sudden?"

The four little ones ignored Ning Huan and ran towards Zhou Jing'an's house.

"Father!"

Zhou Jing'an lay in the room, hearing the little ones crying, and faintly hearing Ning Huan's voice. He thought Ning Huan was bullying them again, and felt annoyed and angry.

The little ones ran over and hugged Zhou Jing'an, crying, "Daddy, we don't want you to die!"

They were very emotional, their little faces were covered in tears.

Zhou Jing'an was taken aback. He looked at the little boy and saw that they were all crying their eyes out. He felt a little confused: "What are you talking about? Dad is right here."

The little boy cried and said, "Daddy, don't die..."

Little Sibao choked up and said, "Daddy, please don't leave us..."

Zhou Jing'an looked at the children crying their eyes out and was somewhat speechless. He figured that it must be Ning Huan who had bullied the four little ones, which was why they were crying like this.

Thinking of this, his anger surged.

Just as I was about to say something more, I felt a churning in my throat, and then a spurt of blood gushed out.

Upon seeing this, the four little ones were instantly stunned and cried out, "Dad!"

Zhou Jing'an felt a metallic taste in his throat, and then spat out another mouthful of blood.

He looked at the four panicked children and gently patted them: "Don't worry, Dad's alright."

Hearing the crying, Ning Huan rushed into the house and was shocked to see the blood on Zhou Jing'an's lips. She quickly poured a glass of water and handed it to Zhou Jing'an.

Zhou Jing'an had just taken the water glass when he suddenly remembered that he had drunk the medicine Ning Huan had brewed for him last night, and as a result, he vomited blood today.

That woman must have done something; she wanted to poison me. The little ones must have heard something to cry and be afraid of dying.

Thinking of this, Zhou Jing'an shoved the bowl of water aside and said fiercely, "I was so naive to actually believe you."

Ning Huan frowned and asked, "What do you mean by that?"

He sneered, "Why did I vomit blood? What kind of medicine did you give me yesterday?!"

"You've got a really good plan. First, you said you'd get me a doctor and offered to divorce me. Then you secretly poisoned my medicine!"

Upon hearing this, the four little children glared at Ning Huan and chimed in, "You wicked woman, how dare you poison Daddy!"

Da Bao looked at Ning Huan, then turned and ran out: "I'm going to tell Auntie right now!"

Faced with Zhou Jing'an's questioning, Ning Huan felt baffled: "You're saying I harmed you? The medicine I gave you was just a tonic to replenish your body's vital energy, there was absolutely no problem with it!"

Zhou Jing'an wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth: "Say what you will, I've already drunk the medicine, I can't spit it out to see what's going on."

"If you don't believe me, I still have the dregs from last night's medicine. You can go see whichever doctor you want. If there's even a trace of toxicity, you can do whatever you want with it!"

Ning Huan had originally intended to brew medicine for Zhou Jing'an last night out of kindness. Each of those medicinal herbs was extremely rare and worth a lot of money.

If it weren't for his weak condition, Ning Huan would have hesitated to brew him medicine instead of giving him some tonics to help him recover.

Now they're even suspecting she poisoned the medicine—what a waste of their good intentions!

"Then tell me, why would I suddenly vomit blood?"

Looking at the blood all over the ground, Ning Huan was also a little puzzled. Could it be that this villain was about to die?

She was about to step forward to take Zhou Jing'an's pulse.

Zhou Jing'an looked at Ning Huan as she approached, his eyes filled with apprehension: "What are you going to do?"

Ning Huan forcefully pulled his hand out to take his pulse: "Don't move, let me see what's wrong!"

Just as Zhou Jing'an was about to push Ning Huan away, Zhou Lan's voice came from the doorway: "Third brother, what's wrong with you!"

Da Bao and Er Bao, standing behind Zhou Lan, pointed at Ning Huan and said, "Auntie, that stinky woman poisoned Daddy's medicine!"

Zhou Lan asked in surprise, "Third sister-in-law, what happened? Why is Jing'an vomiting blood!"

Ning Huan stood up and said, "Big sister, he vomited blood because of a sudden surge of anger."

Zhou Lan asked, "Is it due to extreme anger?"

Ning Huan nodded and turned to look at the four little ones: "What did you say to your father when you came in?"
