Chapter Fourteen: Agreement and Divorce

Ning Huan thought for a moment and then said, "After a husband dies, a woman has to go to the Clean Hall to remain chaste for her husband for the rest of her life. I don't want to go to that kind of place; it's no different from being dead."

“I’ve figured out a lot of things these past few days. The reason I wanted to marry you was simply because I felt you were someone I could rely on. But now…”

"If we're not suited to be together, it's better to break up sooner rather than later."

Zhou Jing'an snorted coldly; he knew there was a reason for this woman's attentiveness these past two days.

"Are you trying to divorce me because you see I'm about to die?"

A cold glint flashed in his eyes: "You've got a good plan. After the divorce, whether I live or die is none of your business."

Ning Huan shook her head: "That's not what I meant. I meant that I would heal your injuries, and then we would get a divorce."

Zhou Jing'an asked coldly, "Why should I believe you?"

"Once I've healed your injuries, you can give me a divorce agreement. Is that alright?"

Seeing Ning Huan so easily say she wanted a divorce, Zhou Jing'an recalled how this woman had schemed to marry him before, and now she could so openly say she wanted a divorce.

"Don't worry, I can definitely heal your injuries. Just don't forget to give me the divorce papers when you do."

As Ning Huan spoke, she handed the bowl of medicine in her hand to Zhou Jing'an.

Seeing the steam rising from the medicine, Zhou Jing paused for a few seconds, then raised an eyebrow and took the bowl.

"Okay, I promise you."

All this woman wanted was a divorce agreement so she could be free.

The little ones outside the door kept staring at the bad woman and their father. When they heard the bad woman say she wanted to divorce their father, they were afraid that she was going to abandon him.

Unexpectedly, she healed her father's injuries before leaving, and her father agreed.

The four little ones breathed a sigh of relief and then cheered.

Ning Huan carried the medicine bowl outside and saw four little dumplings jumping around together.

Without even thinking, she knew why. She squatted down and said to the four little ones, "Do you understand now? I'm going to treat your father's illness, and then he'll give me the divorce papers. Don't doubt me anymore."

The two little ones nodded happily, then ran out and cheered.

Da Bao stared coldly at Ning Huan's back, as if he was still doubting whether what she said was true.

Little Sibao seemed a little unhappy and lowered his head in disappointment.

Ning Huan boiled the herbs for Xiao Sibao into a juice in the kitchen, then secretly added some spiritual spring water before serving it to Xiao Sibao.

"This is the last dose of medicine. If you drink this bowl today, you will be completely cured."

Seeing the medicine Ning Huan handed her, Xiao Sibao reluctantly drank it all.

The three little ones surrounded Xiao Sibao, watching him drink his medicine but not being happy. Xiao Sanbao asked in confusion, "Xiao Sibao, why are you unhappy? Is it because it's too bitter?"

Xiao Sibao shook his head.

Little Erbao found it a bit strange: "Why is that? Is it because you're still sick and not feeling well?"

Xiao Sibao then shook his head.

After a long pause, she said, "I was actually a little sad when I heard that the bad woman wanted to divorce Father and that she would never live with us again."

Hearing this, the three little ones were very surprised.

Da Bao spoke first: "Is it because she's been brewing medicine for you these past few days that you're feeling unwell?"

Xiao Sibao nodded: "A little."

Little Two and Little Three comforted her, saying, "Think about when she beat and scolded us before. It's best that this bad woman left us. Forget about your illness; if she hadn't ignored you at first, it wouldn't have gotten this serious!"

"Yes, it's all that bad woman's fault! She brewed medicine for you because she felt guilty!"

Hearing these words, Xiao Sibao thought about how the bad woman had treated her before, and she didn't feel as bad as before.

After tidying up the kitchen, Ning Huan looked at the herbs she had taken from her consciousness space to sell and began to feel troubled again.

Because the original owner was rather lazy, he hadn't been to town many times.

Therefore, Ning Huan's memory of the way to town was very vague, and she had no idea how to get there.

If she went directly to ask Zhou Jing'an, he would definitely find it strange.

Ning Huan thought about it carefully and then came up with a solution.

She went into Zhou Jing'an's house and said to him, "Although I'm going to town to sell herbs, I'm afraid I won't be able to take care of myself if I go alone. Could you come with me, elder sister?"

Zhou Jing'an looked up at Ning Huan, who had never looked down on the Zhou family before.

In particular, Zhou Lan was gentle by nature and did not argue with her much, which made her look down on her even more.

Now she's even offering to have her older sister accompany her.

He asked suspiciously, "What are you up to now?"

Ning Huan scratched her head, feeling a little guilty, and said, "What can I possibly do? It's just that I'm afraid I can't manage to get the herbs and negotiate prices with the clinic all by myself."

"Besides, I only went up the mountain to pick a few herbs and came back a little late today, and the little ones were so worried. If I go to town alone, they'll be even more afraid that I'll run away."

The woman in front of him clearly seemed to have something she wasn't saying, so Zhou Jing'an thought for a moment and then said, "Whatever you want. When your older sister comes over tomorrow, you can talk to her about it."

"Also, Brother Zhu's oxcart is the only oxcart in our village that goes to town. We don't have money for his travel expenses, but we can exchange it for the last basket of eggs we have."

Ning Huan nodded in agreement.

She pretended to know on the surface, but secretly she was overjoyed.

Thanks to her own idea, otherwise she would never have known that she had to take the only oxcart to get to town.

The next morning, Ning Huan had just finished eating when Zhou Lan arrived.

She was holding a basket of vegetables in her hand, which she handed to Ning Huan, saying, "Sister-in-law, Grandma asked me to bring these over for you."

Ning Huan accepted the vegetables and thanked her, saying, "You're too kind, sister. I was wondering last night if you could come over today. I wanted you to come to town with me."

Zhou Lan said, "Last time I heard you say you were going to town, so I came here today to tell you that Brother Zhu's cows have been to town for several days in a row and are resting at home now. It will probably be a couple of days before they can go to town again."

In this remote mountain village, cattle are treated like precious treasures.

Ning Huan could understand, but she was also a little anxious, because Zhou Jing'an's injury could not be delayed any longer.

Although she could treat Zhou Jing'an directly, Zhou Jing'an definitely wouldn't trust her and wouldn't agree.

Seeing Ning Huan's somewhat disappointed expression, Zhou Lan comforted her, "Don't worry, sister-in-law, I'll definitely tell you as soon as Brother Zhu's family can go to town."
