Chapter Fifty-Nine: The Passing of Old Xu

Meanwhile, Xu Yanshu had returned to the hospital and, as before, let the caregiver leave early so that he could personally take care of his grandmother's washing and daily massage.

Although he wanted to be filial, since getting married he had spent most of his time and energy on Xie Huanyu and the company's affairs, and he hadn't spent as much time with his grandmother as he was now.

Compared to her father's strict teachings over the years, the rare warmth and tenderness in Xu Yanshu's life came from her grandmother.

In his memory, his grandmother always looked at him with a smile and would protect him when his father scolded him severely. Therefore, he actually relied more on his grandmother during his childhood.

Since his father passed away, his grandmother has become his only remaining concern in the world.

After finishing tidying up, Xu Yanshu sat down again by the hospital bed. He said thoughtfully, "Grandma, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have kept it from you!"

"Actually... there have always been big problems between Xie Huanyu and me, and I wanted to get a divorce long before this."

If he had told his grandmother everything in time, she would have been wary of Lu Huai, and he would not have had the chance to provoke her.

Unfortunately, there are no "what ifs" in the world. Xu Yanshu couldn't help but sigh, and then a sharp look appeared in his eyes.

He would never let Lu Huai off easily. Even if Xie Huanyu really wanted to favor that bastard, he would make him pay the price.

Coming to his senses, Xu Yanshu vaguely saw that his grandmother's fingers seemed to move slightly. He looked up in surprise and saw that his grandmother had opened her eyes.

"Grandma, you're awake!"

Xu Yanshu stood up excitedly, almost bursting into tears of joy. He turned to call the doctor, but the old man grabbed his sleeve at the last moment.

Grandma's voice was noticeably hoarse, "Don't rush, talk to Grandma for a while!"

Seeing the old man's radiant appearance, Xu Yanshu was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized that this was a sign of a final burst of energy before death.

He reached out and pressed the call button next to him, and then forced himself to sit down again, suppressing his grief.

"Yan Shu, it's alright. Everyone gets old eventually. I'm already very content to have lived this long!"

Xu Yanshu wanted to spend some quality time talking with the old man, but upon hearing these words, he felt a mix of emotions and his eyes welled up with tears.

"I know you're a good boy, and I don't have anything to tell you, except for one sentence,"

"That means you shouldn't make the wrong choices or go down the wrong path in life. It's inevitable to make mistakes in life, but as long as you turn around and correct them in time, it's fine!"

Understanding the implied meaning in those words, Xu Yanshu was taken aback for a moment, then nodded heavily.

He wanted to explain something, but when he looked up and met his grandmother's gentle gaze, he suddenly felt it was unnecessary.

"Grandma, I understand,"

Suppressing the sobs in his heart, Xu Yanshu spoke as calmly as possible, reaching out to hold the old man's hand, "If you don't blame me, please stay with me a little longer, okay? Let's go back to our hometown together!"

“Little Yan Shu, why are you talking nonsense again? I really have to go find your father, and you can also go and look for your biological parents.”

The old man's spirits were gradually weakening, but he still held on to his last breath, while tightly gripping Xu Yanshu's hand. "I don't know anything else, but their surname is Zhou, and it seems to be a southern city."

Xu Yanshu subconsciously shook his head, and hot tears dripped directly onto the quilt. He didn't care about blood ties; in his heart, his grandmother was the most important family member.

"Yan Shu, my... dear grandson, you must remember... remember what I said."

After saying these words in a barely audible voice, Grandma Xu slowly closed her eyes.

Dr. Gao happened to walk in from outside with a nurse. After a brief examination, he confirmed the time of death and finally looked at Xu Yanshu.

"Mr. Xu, please accept my condolences!"

With a slight contraction in his pupils, Xu Yanshu felt a sudden surge of grief. He slowly released the old man's hand and quickly turned his head to the other side before his eyes reddened.

Xie Huanyu rushed into the ward. She had come to settle scores with Xu Yanshu, but she didn't expect to see such a scene.

It wasn't until she saw the straight line on the electrocardiogram next to her that she suddenly understood what was happening. Her legs went weak, and she staggered to the bedside.

How could this happen...?

Xie Huanyu was at a loss. The doctor had only said that it was uncertain when her grandmother would wake up, but there was no other danger. So how could this have happened so suddenly?

"How did you end up here?" Xu Yanshu quickly composed himself and stared coldly at the woman opposite him.

Therefore, Xu Yanshu's refusal to attend the birthday banquet in the morning was not just an excuse, but because his grandmother's condition was really not optimistic...

Xie Huanyu barely realized what was happening when she looked up and met the man's sharp gaze. Feeling guilty, she turned her face away to the other side.

"I'm sorry, I really didn't know Grandma was in this condition."

In other words, she admitted that she deliberately used the banquet incident to make things difficult for herself?!

His gaze turned cold without him noticing. Just as Xu Yanshu was about to say something, he saw someone walk in from outside.

"Yu Bao, I've already got the car..."

Upon seeing the person who arrived, Xu Yanshu instantly flew into a rage, yelling, "Get out of here!"

Xie Huanyu hadn't expected Lu Huai to come up with her, and she vaguely felt that it was a bit inappropriate. She subconsciously gave Lu Huai a look, signaling him to leave quickly.

Lu Huai was momentarily confused, but then noticed the stopped electrocardiogram next to him, and a barely perceptible smile appeared on his lips.

Great! The old man has finally passed away. Now there's no way to prove anything. Even if Xu Yanshu has a lot of evidence, he can't do anything to me.

It was indeed not a good time to linger. Just as Lu Huai was about to turn around and leave, two men in uniforms walked towards him.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Lu Huai?"

Lu Huai's heart skipped a beat, he vaguely guessed what was going on, and had no choice but to nod truthfully.

"We now suspect you are involved in a case of intentional assault. Please come with us!"

Xie Huanyu was caught off guard by this. She wanted to go forward and ask what was going on, but when she noticed Xu Yanshu standing next to her, she stopped in her tracks.

Then, a beat later, she realized that it might be related to her grandmother's unexpected fainting.

Xu Yanshu wasn't too surprised, but she didn't expect that it would be at this critical juncture that she would see Lu Huai being taken away by the police, and her eyes inadvertently became complicated.

When he turned around again, he saw that his grandmother's face had been covered with a white sheet, her breathing became heavy, and she staggered for a moment—
