Chapter Sixty: Pursuing the Truth

Xu Yanshu declined Xie Junyang's offer to help hold a funeral and simply paid respects to her grandmother according to the customs of her hometown. Finally, she placed the old lady's ashes next to her father.

Xie Huanyu stayed by his side throughout the entire process, even though Xu Yanshu didn't seem to care much about him.

"Grandma, rest in peace. Your grandson will remember what you said!" Xu Yanshu said to himself, his gaze calm as he looked at the tombstone in front of him.

If you take the wrong path, you should turn back in time. This principle is actually quite simple.

His previous restraint was entirely due to his grandmother, but he never expected that the elderly woman would still be hurt in the end. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with him.

Now that things have come to this, he has absolutely no more scruples. This divorce is a must, and he will no longer be controlled or coerced by the Xie family.

So what did Grandma say?

Xie Huanyu unconsciously glanced at Xu Yanshu, lost in thought for a moment, vaguely sensing that it might be related to him.

After the memorial service, the two walked out of the cemetery one after the other, and Xu Yanshu drove away without saying a word.

“Xu Yanshu, you…”

"If you want me to let Lu Huai go, then there's no need to say anything more. I will definitely pursue this matter to the end."

Looking at Xu Yanshu's aloof profile, Xie Huanyu frowned slightly. She just wanted to ask him if he was considering taking a few days off to adjust his mood.

She had said before that things should be handled as they were, and since Ah Huai had a clear conscience, she didn't need to explain anything more for him. She believed that the law would reveal the truth.

Xie Huanyu hesitated, but ultimately didn't say anything more, turning her head to look out the window in silence.

I really don't understand why this person would have such a deep misunderstanding of her.

He was determined to divorce me before, but stopped because of my grandmother. Now that she has passed away, will he start thinking about divorce again...?

As she pondered this, Xie Huanyu suddenly became irritable.

Upon returning home, Xu Yanshu went straight to his study and called Attorney Jiang.

"Although it can be proven that he did enter the old man's room that day, there was no other stronger evidence at the time, so it is impossible to hold him responsible at this time!"

"Lu Huai has also been asking to see your wife, saying that Miss Xie can serve as a witness that he is not involved in this matter!"

Oh shit!

Xu Yanshu's face immediately turned extremely gloomy, his forehead bulged one after another, and his cold and fierce appearance was just like a jade-faced demon who came out of hell.

That grandson of Lu Huai really has no shame at all; he actually has the audacity to ask Xie Huanyu to be his witness.

They are still legally married, so Xie Huanyu is considered a relative of her grandmother. If she comes forward to testify or expresses her understanding, Lu Huai may not be punished.

thump thump thump...

There was a knock on the study door. Xu Yanshu had no choice but to hang up the phone first, and then called out to the person outside.

"Come in!"

Xie Huanyu entered the study, placed the fruit plate on the table, hesitated for a moment, and then spoke somewhat awkwardly.

"I've made a few simple dishes, would you like to come out and eat with me?"

Sensing the other party's unusual behavior, Xu Yanshu frowned imperceptibly. How could someone who had never lifted a finger suddenly become so diligent?

Recalling the news he had just received, he pondered for a moment before speaking cautiously.

"The lawyer called and said that Lu Huai wants you to be his witness. What do you think about this?"

What?

Xie Huanyu's eyes twitched uncontrollably, and she wondered if she had misheard. She hadn't expected Lu Huai to make such an outrageous request.

No matter what, she and Xu Yanshu are still a legally married couple. How could I possibly stand up and testify for her in something like this?!

A beat too slow to realize the other person's intention in asking that question, Xie Huanyu was immediately annoyed and retorted irritably,

Do you really think I would get that certificate?

“I said long ago that things should be handled as they are, and I will not interfere in the slightest. I also call you Grandma, and like you, I hope that things will be investigated and clarified as soon as possible!”

How tasteless must she be in this man's eyes for him to think that she can't even distinguish between what's important and what's urgent in such a small matter?

Xu Yanshu stared intently at Xie Huanyu. He never expected the woman to say such a thing, and the coldness between his brows lessened somewhat.

"Do you remember the earring you gave Lu Huai last year? The caregiver found the earring in Grandma's room, and Lu Huai's fingerprints were also found on Grandma's wheelchair."

After Dr. Wang mentioned it, he asked a professional to compare the marks on the handrail, and it was confirmed that the marks on it were Lu Huai's fingerprints.

With the addition of the earring, it can be definitively concluded that Grandma's fainting was related to Lu Huai.

What?

Xie Huanyu's pupils contracted slightly, and her expression instantly turned serious. Ah Huai hadn't mentioned earrings or anything like that to her.

She still remembered the design of those earrings; they shouldn't have fallen off for no reason without external interference... Besides, if he was just visiting, he shouldn't have moved the wheelchair.

Recalling Ah Huai's previous vows to her, Xie Huanyu's feelings became somewhat complicated, and she unconsciously pursed her red lips.

After a moment's thought, Xie Huanyu carefully spoke, "Everyone has to pay the price for their actions. If he really caused Grandma to faint, we will definitely pursue this to the end!"

"But if there's actually no direct connection, then shouldn't you apologize to Lu Huai out of both courtesy and reason?"

Xu Yanshu nodded in deep agreement. It was already commendable that Xie Huanyu hadn't blindly favored Lu Huai, so it was understandable that she would hesitate for a moment.

"He was the only one who entered the room that day, so she is the prime suspect. We will continue to investigate."

Xie Huanyu had no objection to this; if it were her, she would also want to get to the bottom of things.

"Oh, right, Dad told us to go back to the Xie residence this afternoon."

Xu Yanshu frowned in reluctance. "I won't go back. I'll go back to the company this afternoon to deal with the documents that were left over."

Having just finished dealing with her grandmother's funeral, and with the police still not having reached a formal conclusion, she simply didn't have the extra energy to deal with Xie Junyang under the current circumstances.

Xie Huanyu wanted to say something more, but when she noticed the weariness between the man's brows, she unconsciously swallowed back the words she was about to say.

"Okay, I understand. I'll go back by myself then!"

Hearing this, Xu Yanshu secretly breathed a sigh of relief, thinking he was about to have another argument. He nodded slightly and said, "Okay, then please give my regards to Dad!"
