As soon as Le Yao entered the kitchen, everyone rushed in. After all, they had their pride too. They couldn't just eat without doing any work; even peeling a garlic clove would count as contributing.
The first thing Le Yao had to do was make tea eggs. After glancing at the number of eggs, she realized there weren't enough, so she asked Jiang Xiaoxing to buy some from the villagers, since the production crew hadn't said they couldn't buy them anyway.
"I'll go with Xing-ge." Jiang Xuan hurriedly followed Jiang Xiaoxing out.
Next, Le Yao was to cook eight-treasure porridge with black tea. However, the ingredients were limited. There was no millet or glutinous rice, so she could only cook it with ordinary rice. Not to mention almonds and walnuts, but fortunately, she had dates and raisins, so it was barely acceptable.
After the porridge was cooked, I started making some snacks, since it was still a long time before dinner.
Due to the limited ingredients, I couldn't make them too elaborate, so I just made a makeshift green tea cake and sweet potato green tea cake.
Just as the oven was being set up, Jiang Xiaoxing and Jiang Xuan returned, carrying not only a basket of eggs but also a slaughtered small free-range chicken. The villagers insisted on giving it to Jiang Xiaoxing because that family were all fans of hers.
"Looks like your face is worth quite a bit," Le Yao teased.
“Absolutely, this chicken cost a lot of money.” Jiang Xiaoxing raised her eyebrows proudly.
This made everyone laugh.
"This chicken can be made into tea-smoked chicken, but it needs to be marinated for twelve hours, so we'll eat it for lunch tomorrow." Le Yao said, setting the chicken aside. She'd deal with that later; she was starting to cook the tea eggs now…
After a flurry of activity, an enticing aroma wafted from the kitchen once again, and almost everyone rushed into the kitchen.
Fortunately, the kitchen here is big enough, otherwise it really wouldn't be able to fit so many people.
"Alright, dinner's ready." Finally, Le Yao turned off the stove and announced.
Unexpectedly, everyone cheered, and without anyone saying a word, some started setting up tables and others started serving dishes.
"Come on, Leyao, I can't get close enough, but I can give you a massage to relieve your fatigue." Fatty ran over and started massaging Leyao's shoulders and back. "How's it? Is the pressure okay?"
Le Yao was both amused and exasperated, but she didn't refuse. Instead, she squinted her eyes in enjoyment: "Hmm, not bad, a little to the left, yes, right there..."
Everyone was having a great time, but Zheng Ruyu felt like she couldn't fit in, which made her increasingly resentful.
“Miss Zheng.” Anna walked over and stood next to her. “Miss Han, no, everyone calls her Le Yao. She’s really outstanding. Her cooking skills are so good that even a five-star chef wouldn’t trade her for her.”
"Yes, yes." Zheng Ruyu managed a weak smile.
"Sigh." Anna sighed. "There were originally eight of you guests, but it seems she stole all the spotlight. You, as a newcomer, should try harder. After all, I think your image is actually quite good."
Zheng Ruyu lowered her eyes, concealing the resentment in them: "Unfortunately, I can't cook."
"Hehe." Anna laughed. "As long as she doesn't do it, isn't that enough? If no one else does it, why is she the only one stealing the spotlight?"
Zheng Ruyu remained silent.
"Dinner's ready." Anna didn't say anything more, but walked to the middle of everyone and soon started chatting and laughing.
Zheng Ruyu clenched her fist. Yes, as long as Han Binglan doesn't cook, wouldn't that be fine? But to make her not cook... a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
