Chapter 5 The Beginning of Fate

She was very efficient, taking only a week from buying the house to moving in.

They deposited one million in a fixed-term account, which would yield higher returns and is considered a relatively stable way to manage their finances, giving them confidence.

With the remaining money, plus the more than 100,000 yuan she earned from painting, she had 510,000 yuan in usable funds, enough for her and her daughter's daily life.

After celebrating my new home with friends on the day I moved, my life settled down for the time being.

That evening, Jiang Tong sat on the rocking chair on the balcony, enjoying the gentle evening breeze. From the second floor, she could hear the children playing in the neighborhood, which was quite lively. She could also see the green plants and the lighting was good. Everything was perfect in her new home.

Hanhan was already asleep.

Jiang Tong rarely has such free time to enjoy a cup of lemon tea and quietly savor the evening, instead of being busy with housework every day.

There's no need to deal with in-laws.

She started taking on many illustration commissions, and now a single custom painting she creates starts at 1,500 yuan.

Earning enough to cover living expenses.

The tranquility was suddenly broken when her phone showed a call from her mother.

Jiang Tong couldn't help but frown.

After answering the call, her mother's worried voice came through the line. She anxiously complained, "I heard you and Huaiyuan got divorced? Such a big thing, why didn't you tell the family? If my in-laws hadn't called me, we wouldn't have known. Your father was so angry he collapsed. You need to come back right away!"

Jiang Tong had no choice but to agree, thinking to herself that Xu Huaiyuan's family was really shameless.

She frowned.

After suddenly seeing things clearly, she felt much more at ease, and her state of mind changed completely.

She only felt annoyed when facing her parents, and no longer felt timid and hesitant like before.

Jiang Tong was feeling upset when she suddenly noticed a small figure sobbing softly downstairs, sitting by the big tree below her house.

As a mother, I've always been highly sensitive to these kinds of things involving children. My subconscious thought is that there might be a scam. I've heard that some scammers use children to gain sympathy and then defraud people. But this is the Imperial Garden.

The security is known for being extremely strong.

After waiting for five minutes, Jiang Tong still hadn't heard from any of the parents. After a moment's thought, she checked on her own daughter to make sure she was sleeping soundly before turning around and going downstairs to check on her.

Upon arriving at their destination, the child immediately stopped crying, leaned against a large tree, and looked extremely insecure.

Jiang Tong tentatively asked, "Hello? Do you need any help, little one?"

Perhaps it's because her voice is too gentle.

With a hint of friendliness, the other person actually replied, "Oh, thank you, Auntie, but you don't need it."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Tong couldn't help but chuckle. She was still a very polite child, thanking him even while crying. "Hmm, Auntie thinks you might need some help. Are you sure you don't need it? Maybe I can give you a hug or some comfort?"

She has no resistance to well-behaved children because they remind her of her eldest daughter, Hanhan, who is sensible and sensitive, and very pitiful.

As soon as Jiang Tong spoke, the child started to cry, and then, accompanied by the sound of leaves rustling, a small figure crawled out.

It was a boy, about the same age as Hanhan, but he wasn't under the streetlights, so it wasn't very clear.

Jiang Tong was kneeling, and she said to the little boy, "Do you need Auntie to hug you?"

Perhaps children all need love. Sensing the kindness, the child obediently came closer and reached out to hug her neck.

It's soft and fluffy, with a faint fragrance, like the scent of irises.

Jiang Tong patiently hugged him and tentatively asked, "Did you have a fight with your parents? Or did you accidentally get lost?"

Her voice was so gentle.

She looks like her mother.

The little boy said pitifully, "My name is Zhou Jiaqi. Today is my kindergarten's parent-child activity day. Daddy said he would come, but he didn't. Qiqi doesn't have a mommy, and Daddy isn't here either, boohoo!"

After the child finished speaking, he looked up and started crying, with large tears rolling down his face.

Jiang Tong picked him up and carried him to the streetlight, gently coaxing him. But when she saw the child's beautiful face, she was immediately amazed, exclaiming in her heart, "What a little angel!" His chubby cheeks, big eyes, and curly eyelashes—he was even mixed-race?!

Brown hair, blue eyes, what kind of treasure is this?

Jiang Tong's heart melted, and her voice unconsciously became gentler, "Sweetie, then Auntie understands. Qiqi must feel very sad, right?"

To comfort children, you need to have empathy, rather than simply accusing them of being dramatic.

Zhou Jiaqi nodded his little head and hugged Jiang Tong, crying incessantly, "I miss Mommy, but Mommy doesn't want me and Daddy, she's gone."

Jiang Tong had just gotten divorced and was worried about what would happen to Hanhan if he lacked a father's love in the future. When she heard that the little guy also came from a single-parent family, she immediately felt sorry for him.

She sighed.

"Baby, you have to go home after you've finished crying, otherwise your daddy will worry. Can you tell Auntie where you live? Auntie will take you home."

The little boy suddenly hugged Jiang Tong's neck tightly, indicating that he didn't want to go home, "There's no daddy at home, I don't want to be at home with the maids."

Jiang Tong still had to take care of her own daughter, so she coaxed her, "When is your daddy coming back? Auntie has a baby at home and needs to go back to take care of her. Why don't you come home with me first, and I'll contact your daddy to come pick you up? There will be a lot of mosquitoes under the big tree!"

She could already see the child scratching himself; his calves were covered in mosquito bites.

Zhou Jiaqi obediently agreed, "Okay, I'll go to Auntie's house. I like Auntie too."

Life is just so unpredictable.

Jiang Tong went downstairs for less than ten minutes and then brought someone else's son home.

Only when you step under the light can you see how outstanding the child's appearance is, and how strong the genes must be to give birth to such a beautiful baby.

Jiang Tong was overjoyed. The little guy was very well-behaved and polite, hugging her neck and saying, "Auntie, you can put me down if you're tired. I should be able to walk by myself, but I like it when Auntie carries me."

It made her laugh so hard. "You don't want to get down and walk because you like me to hold you? Auntie isn't tired, you can hold Qiqi like this forever."

What a good child.

When he got to his doorstep, he took off his shoes on his own. He looked so cute in his little overalls, which even had little bee wings on the back.

Jiang Tong was charmed by the child's cuteness. She poured him some milk and also got his father's phone number from him.

He contacted his anxious father, whose voice was also exceptionally clear.

Jiang Tong was surprised again.

The other party asked her to take the child home; the address was in the building next door.

They really are from the same neighborhood.

Jiang Tong could only awkwardly say that the child didn't want to go home, and the child's father immediately called out sternly, "Zhou Jiaqi."

The little brat shrank his shoulders in fright and became sullen and unhappy.

Jiang Tong immediately said in a gentle voice, "Mr. Zhou? If you would allow it, you can leave the child with me temporarily. I wouldn't find it troublesome..."
