Zheng Qing pursed his lips and remained silent, his gaze unconsciously drifting towards Jiang Qingwan.
Jiang Qingwan nodded slightly to the doctor.
"A doctor's heart is benevolent. Please trouble you to take a look at this child. If the fever continues like this, his body will be ruined."
Although she wasn't adorned with a head full of jewels, her moon-shadow gauze dress exuded luxury.
The doctor noticed that she was no ordinary person, and then glanced at the baby in the swaddling clothes. Although he was displeased, he did not refuse her.
"Let me see. If such a young child were to contract the plague, not even a god could save him."
"It's not a plague."
Jiang Qingwan's words left Dazhuang and Xiaocui stunned.
The doctor went over to take the child's pulse with suspicion and also looked at the child's palm.
"It really isn't a plague, but this cold is quite strange."
"This child should still be breastfed, right? Logically speaking, this shouldn't be the case."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Qingwan's mind stirred.
“Xiao Zhuang’s son, show me your palm.”
Xiao Zhuang's wife quickly did as instructed.
Her palms, like Xiao Cui's, were pink.
The doctor was so frightened that he immediately backed away.
“You…you’ve also contracted the plague. No wonder the child has a high fever. I can’t help it, I can’t save him.”
He picked up his medicine box and tried to leave.
Jiang Qingwan raised her hand to stop her.
"Treat it as a cold, bring down the child's fever first, and leave the plague to me."
"You? You're a doctor too?"
The doctor's eyes widened.
Jiang Qingwan shook her head.
It seemed even more absurd.
"You're courting death. The best way to contain the plague is to seal off the village immediately."
Just then, Xiao Cui came in carrying two buckets of water.
Upon seeing Jiang Qingwan, he immediately ran over, put down his load, and knelt down on the ground.
"My lord, it was my blindness that led me to talk back to you. I was afraid of losing my job at the Chen family. Please, be magnanimous, save my parents and my whole family. I will accept whatever punishment you deem appropriate."
She banged it loudly.
Blood was gushing from his forehead.
Seeing this, Xiao Zhuang quickly grabbed his sister and knelt down as well.
"My lord, please forgive my sister this time. Our family depends on my sister's monthly salary to live. She didn't mean to harm you."
Jiang Qingwan hadn't taken that matter to heart in the first place.
He gestured for someone to stand up.
His gaze, however, fell on the well water that Xiao Cui had just fetched.
It has a very faint bluish tint.
It's a plague!
