Shen Yanxi was surprised that He Lingchuan would call the police. Her eyes were full of anger, and her words were filled with rage: "My husband and I had a fight, so I sent the child to his maternal grandmother's house."
“You’re lying. I called this morning, and your mother has no idea where the child is.”
He Lingchuan didn't believe Shen Yanxi's words at all. He had called Shen's mother before he left, and she said that the child was not with her at all.
Shen Yanxi lowered her head, feeling somewhat guilty: "That's because my mother didn't want to tell you."
He Lingchuan frowned, looking puzzled: "I'm the child's father. If you don't tell me, who should I tell?"
"Who told you to always be fooling around with other women? You say you're the father of the children, but have you spent any time with them these past few days? Have you taken them to school?"
Shen Yanxi became more and more excited as she spoke, saying that Nanchen and Beichen had been asking where their father was these past few days.
After their last hospitalization, Nan Chen and Bei Chen became significantly more dependent on He Lingchuan.
Shen Yanxi was afraid that He Lingchuan would steal her place in the children's hearts.
She turned to look at He Lingchuan, her tone serious: "The police are here today, and I'm telling you clearly, if you continue to only know how to fool around with women, not to mention the child, I will leave you completely."
Who cares about you?
He Lingchuan retorted to Shen Yanxi without any mercy. He looked at the police and said, "Officer, I strongly urge you to find the child. You can't believe what she says."
"I'm the child's mother, do you think I'd just buy them?"
Shen Yanxi's chest heaved with anger, and the policeman's expression didn't improve much when he saw her like this.
The two were arguing and wouldn't stop when the policeman coughed a few times: "That's enough. How long are you two going to make a scene here? You're disrupting official business and wasting police resources, don't you know that?"
They understood the whole story: the young couple had a fight, and the woman wouldn't let the man watch the child.
The police officer coldly reprimanded both of them: "You two can argue all you want, but what's with hiding the child all the time? He's the child's father, you know that's illegal?"
Shen Yanxi snorted coldly, completely disregarding what the police said.
She was fearless and retorted coldly, "I've already said that if he weren't out fooling around, I wouldn't have sent the child away."
She gradually lost her patience, and her gaze toward He Lingchuan became very sharp: "If you don't mind the embarrassment, then keep making a scene here. I don't have time for you."
As the last word fell, Shen Yanxi turned and left.
He Lingchuan watched her retreating figure, unsure whether to stay or leave. In the end, it was the police who urged him to hurry up and catch up.
Before leaving, the police officer patiently reminded him, "We're all family, why so much hatred? Just coax your wife and everything will be fine."
He Lingchuan scratched his head awkwardly; he couldn't very well tell them they were already divorced.
But they are indeed wasting police resources now.
He Lingchuan smiled awkwardly, then didn't linger and chased after Shen Yanxi in the direction she had left.
He jogged all the way and finally caught up with Shen Yanxi.
He Lingchuan grabbed Shen Yanxi's car door and told her in a serious tone, "I'll pick up the child tonight."
Shen Yanxi put on her sunglasses and said without turning her head, "I've already told the driver to take them to my mother's place."
She pushed He Lingchuan's hand away and looked at the man with his features contorted through his sunglasses: "If you have time, why don't you go see your girlfriend? Hasn't she been waiting for you?"
Shen Yanxi told the driver to close the door, without even mentioning that she would give He Lingchuan a ride.
He Lingchuan took a taxi back to the lab, and just as he turned on the machine, he heard a series of urgent knocks on the door.
The person outside seemed to be in a hurry, and the knocking on the door became faster and faster.
"The door wasn't locked."
The moment he finished speaking, Professor Zhao walked in with a bank card in his hand.
He Lingchuan was flattered and quickly got up to move a chair for Professor Zhao.
"No need, I just came to give you this card."
With that, Professor Zhao placed the card on the table.
He Lingchuan's eyes were a little red. He understood what Professor Zhao meant and subconsciously wanted to refuse.
"You are my student. If you encounter difficulties, of course I, as your teacher, should help you. If you don't accept my help, is it because you think I didn't give you enough money?"
Professor Zhao deliberately kept a straight face, and his gaze toward He Lingchuan became increasingly serious.
He Lingchuan quickly waved his hand: "How could I have such a thought? It is already my greatest honor that you can help me, but, but I really can't accept your money."
Professor Zhao is known for his integrity and honesty at their school. The money he has is all that he has saved up over the years while working. How could he possibly take Professor Zhao's money?
If word gets out, won't my classmates laugh me to death?
He himself will never forgive himself.
He Lingchuan pushed the card back in front of Professor Zhao and said softly, "I know you want to help me, and I am very grateful to you, but I really can't accept this money."
He Lingchuan bowed deeply to Professor Zhao: "Professor Zhao, you are my teacher, you should not take the blame for my mistakes."
No matter what Professor Zhao said, He Lingchuan refused to accept it, and the two were deadlocked until Zhou Mingyan's sudden arrival interrupted the argument.
He looked at the two people's clasped hands and asked, "What are you doing?"
Zhou Mingyan's gaze fell on the bank card, and he immediately guessed what it was. Standing to the side, he said sarcastically, "Mr. He, you really are capable. Not only did Xixi help you, but Professor Zhao also helped you so wholeheartedly. I really admire you."
His eyes were filled with jealousy: "Sometimes I'm really curious, what methods did you use to make so many people trust you so much?"
His words were full of sarcasm, but He Lingchuan pretended not to hear them. Instead, Professor Zhao coldly reminded Zhou Mingyan, "I think you're quite capable. You haven't even achieved anything yet, but you dare to show off in front of me."
Zhou Mingyan dared to speak sarcastically about He Lingchuan, but he wouldn't dare to say anything about Professor Zhao.
He pursed his lips and explained in a low voice, "Professor, you've misunderstood me. I've come to tell Mr. He some good news."
He Lingchuan glanced at him sideways: "What good news could you possibly have?"
Professor Zhao was still there, so he couldn't show too much displeasure. He gestured to Zhou Mingyan with his eyes not to push his luck, thinking that he should send Professor Zhao away first.
Zhou Mingyan pulled out a red donation box from behind him and looked at He Lingchuan with a smug expression: "This is money that your classmates donated to you voluntarily. Although it's not much, it's a small token of our appreciation."
Zhou Mingyan placed the donation box on the table, clearly intending to humiliate He Lingchuan. Seeing that He Lingchuan remained unmoved, he couldn't help but urge him, "Mr. He, you don't think this money is too little, do you?"
