Chapter 116 No Report Card

He Lingchuan looked up and caught a glimpse of the person standing outside the door.

They were clearly brought in by Zhou Mingyan to see him make a fool of himself.

Since they insisted on being insulted, He Lingchuan didn't hold back.

He picked up the donation box, shook it gently by his ear, and casually tossed it onto the table: "It's too little, not even enough for me to have a meal."

Zhou Mingyan remained expressionless, his gaze falling on Professor Zhao: "Professor, look at this, this is the good student you like. Look at his attitude. We were all trying to help him out of kindness, but he doesn't appreciate it at all. He's really biting the hand that feeds him."

Professor Zhao snorted and handed the donation box to Zhou Mingyan: "Can't I tell whether you're genuinely trying to help or not?"

He looked towards the door, his voice not loud, but full of authority: "Come in, all of you. What are you doing hiding outside?"

As soon as Professor Zhao spoke, all the students who had been hiding outside rushed in.

Professor Zhao looked them up and down, his tone cold and angry: "If you're here just to laugh at your classmates, you can leave now. I can't teach students like this."

He walked around the students, looking them over and writing down their names: "Don't think I can't see you're laughing at me. The money you've donated isn't even enough to feed a dog."

Professor Zhao was so angry that he threw the box on the ground.

His students were all excellent in both character and academics; this was the first time he had ever encountered such a class.

He put his hands behind his back and sarcastically remarked without any mercy, "None of you, except for He Lingchuan, satisfies me."

When Professor Zhao is angry, even the school principal doesn't dare to speak up.

He handed the names he had written down to He Lingchuan: "Each of you deduct ten points from my grades. If this happens again, you're all out of here and never come to my class again."

He Lingchuan hesitated. If he took the notebook now, wouldn't that indirectly prove that their relationship was indeed unusual?

People outside are saying he got in through connections, but he doesn't care what they say. He's mainly worried about implicating Professor Zhao.

Professor Zhao kept his hand raised, but He Lingchuan didn't take the notebook. He looked at him, completely bewildered: "What are you doing? Didn't you hear what I said?"

"Isn't this a bit too much? Ten seems a bit too much."

Credits are extremely important to them; losing ten points can be the death of a student.

Professor Zhao didn't care at all and put the notebook directly into He Lingchuan's pocket: "It's not like I didn't give them chances. They brought this on themselves."

Professor Zhao's attitude was very firm, and He Lingchuan tried to plead for the students, but Professor Zhao stopped him.

Seeing that he wasn't giving him any chance, He Lingchuan could only accept his fate.

He sighed helplessly, his eyes filled with resignation as he looked at his classmates.

One of the girls tried to explain herself, and she stood up and pointed the finger at Zhou Mingyan: "Professor Zhao, this really has nothing to do with us. It was Zhou who told us to do this."

“That’s right. We were just trying to be kind by donating money. How would we know he owed so much money? We’re just an ordinary family. If he thinks we didn’t donate enough, then we’ll just take the money back.”

"If I had known that donating to help would result in points being deducted, why would I have donated?"

Someone said something that made Professor Zhao realize that he had been planning to handle the matter judiciously. But after hearing this, he straightened his face again and questioned the person who spoke: "Are you really donating money? If you really want to help, I won't say anything."

Professor Zhao pointed at He Lingchuan: "You are all classmates who spend every day together. Don't you know his character? If he really throws a tantrum because you didn't donate enough money, I will deduct points from his score as well. I can even expel him. But is that really what you mean?"

Professor Zhao bluntly exposed their motives: "I just looked at this box. The largest denomination is only twenty yuan. All of you donated less than one hundred yuan in total, yet you all came to spy on his reaction. What else could it be but to make a fool of him?"

Professor Zhao's gaze returned to Zhou Mingyan: "You're quite capable, managing to get so many students to listen to you."

Having said all that, Professor Zhao was too lazy to pay them any more attention.

He kicked the donation box over, saying, "Take whose money it is. You dare call this helping with such a small amount?"

Professor Zhao left them speechless after his rebuke. Someone, feeling resentful, mustered up the courage to shout, "It's my freedom to donate as much money as I want. Did I give him money? I meant well. What's wrong with wanting to see his reaction after receiving the money? You're protecting him like this only because he's your relative."

Upon hearing this, Professor Zhao's face immediately darkened: "What nonsense are you talking about?"

“I’m not making this up. You can tell from the rumors outside. I don’t believe you’re completely unaware of what people are saying. Your silence is tantamount to admitting it.”

When someone took the lead, others followed suit.

They united and began to attack Professor Zhao.

"Exactly! If it's not true, why don't you clarify it?"

They each said something, as if Professor Zhao were some heinous villain.

Looking at their ferocious faces, He Lingchuan walked up to Professor Zhao and said in a stern tone, "What do you know? Get out of here right now. If you really anger the teacher, can you bear the consequences?"

Despite He Lingchuan's warning, they remained relentless.

"Stop pretending to be a good person. Isn't Professor Zhao treating us like this just to protect you? If you really respect your teachers, you should explain the whole story and withdraw from school."

"Exactly, you got in through connections, what gives you the right to boss us around?"

He Lingchuan narrowed his eyes. They were fixated on one thing and didn't care whether it was true or false.

He chuckled, pulled up the report card from the computer, and turned to let them see it clearly: "I'm not clarifying because I want to save you some face."

These are transcripts from a few years ago, all of them A+.

Looking at their surprised expressions, He Lingchuan slowly said, "I don't need to tell you how difficult the exam papers were in previous years. Back then, I chose to take the exam myself instead of giving up my guaranteed admission, just to prove my ability. However, I didn't come to school then because I got married."

He Lingchuan has not clarified this because he doesn't want to tell them about his marriage.

He heard a chorus of exclamations from those around him.

However, someone quickly noticed something was wrong: "These are just the results from previous years, they don't represent this year. Show us your results for this year."

Faced with his questioning, He Lingchuan shrugged, his attitude nonchalant: "I didn't."
