The only thing you can't accept is him? These words struck He Lingchuan like a thunderbolt.
He leaned against the wall, his shoulders slumped, and said with a self-deprecating laugh, "I've worked so hard for so long just to get the kids to acknowledge me, but I never expected it to end like this."
He sighed, his face growing increasingly grim.
Gu Chengze stood beside him, unsure how to comfort him, and could only silently lower his head.
After a long silence, he heard He Lingchuan speak: "What about Bei Chen? What is his attitude towards me?"
The two brothers had a good relationship, but Nan Chen didn't acknowledge him, and Bei Chen's situation probably wasn't much better.
Upon hearing his words, Gu Chengze seemed to suddenly perk up, a hint of excitement in his eyes: "After Nan Chen was rescued, I was worried that Bei Chen would resent you, but things turned out much better than I expected. Bei Chen doesn't have any opinions about you. He's very smart and knows that Zhou Mingyan is deliberately trying to sow discord between you."
Gu Chengze grasped He Lingchuan's hand: "He also asked me to tell you that he said you will always be his father."
He Lingchuan's eyes welled up with tears as he looked at Gu Chengze in disbelief: "Are you serious?"
"Of course, why would I lie to you? Besides, if I lie to you now, you'll know the truth when you see the child, won't you?"
Gu Chengze gently patted He Lingchuan's hand: "What you need to do most right now is to recover your health so that you can see Nan Chen as soon as possible and clear up the misunderstanding between you."
...
Ever since He Lingchuan was injured, Gu Chengze has been following him around like a shadow.
He looked at the person sleeping on the chair with some embarrassment and called out to him, "Chengze, you should go back and rest. I can manage here on my own."
Hearing his words, Gu Chengze's face hardened: "Even if I go back, the doctor won't let you see Nan Chen."
"You've misunderstood me, I just..."
"Ling Chuan, we're friends. I know you. You want to get rid of me so you can secretly go see Nan Chen, don't you?"
He Lingchuan paused, thinking of an excuse, but then heard Gu Chengze say, "Even if you really don't have this intention, let me ask you, if I were injured, could you leave me alone in the hospital and go out to rest by yourself?"
Upon hearing Gu Chengze's words, He Lingchuan lowered his head and remained silent, not mentioning the matter of asking him to return.
He Lingchuan kept his eyes half-closed, not daring to turn over or make a sound, for fear of disturbing Gu Chengze.
His wounds are very painful and still a little itchy.
He couldn't resist any longer and quietly got out of bed.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw a small figure at the end of the corridor.
The figure looked somewhat familiar. He Lingchuan was about to call out to him, but then, worried that he might scare him, he deliberately made footsteps behind him.
Upon hearing the sound, the small figure turned around with wide eyes, and the moment he saw He Lingchuan, he immediately pounced on him.
"Dad, how are you?"
Bei Chen has always been timid. He ran up to He Lingchuan but didn't dare to hug him, afraid that he would hurt him.
"Dad's okay, why did you run out all by yourself?"
He Lingchuan looked around, not seeing anyone following him, and asked sharply, "Where's your mother?"
"They were all asleep, so I sneaked out on my own."
Bei Chen was worried that He Lingchuan would blame him, so he quickly said, "I didn't come out to play. I just wanted to see you, Dad. I was so worried about you. Mom said you were injured, and I was afraid you would end up in the hospital like my brother."
As he spoke, Bei Chen began to lift He Lingchuan's clothes.
He lifted a corner and saw that He Lingchuan's body was covered in bruises.
His face immediately fell: "Dad, how did you get hurt like this? What happened?"
Bei Chen looked at him with a worried expression. It was clear that he was genuinely concerned for her, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears.
He Lingchuan bent down, intending to squat down, but found that he simply didn't have the ability.
She could only bend down and touch Beichen's face to comfort him: "Dad is fine, Dad is just feeling a little unwell, don't worry."
"What do you mean you're not feeling well? Don't lie to me, you're actually injured."
Bei Chen slowly burst into tears. After all, he was just a child, and even he was afraid of seeing such a large wound.
He gripped He Lingchuan's clothes tightly, his voice anxious: "Dad, are you in pain? Who did this? Why would they hurt you like this?"
Hearing Bei Chen's words, He Lingchuan was also somewhat moved.
He felt sorry for the child, wiping away Beichen's tears while gently rubbing his head, saying in a gentle tone, "Beichen, don't look, you won't be scared if you don't look."
"I'm not scared, I'm just worried about you."
Bei Chen sobbed as he looked up, his lips pursed and his little face scrunched up.
"Dad, does it hurt?"
Bei Chen spoke softly, as if afraid of hurting He Lingchuan, and looked at him gently: "I'll blow on it for you, I'll blow on it for you and it won't hurt anymore."
Upon hearing his words, He Lingchuan's eyes instantly reddened.
"Beichen, you are truly a good child to your father."
He Lingchuan couldn't help but hug Beichen. He still smelled of blood on him, which made Beichen's nose uncomfortable, but he still endured it.
He was smart; he waited until He Lingchuan calmed down before asking him, "Dad, was it Xu Fei who did it?"
He Lingchuan looked at Bei Chen with some surprise: "Who told you that?"
“I heard it from the police officers; I know they have arrested Xu Fei.”
Nan Chen looked up at him with a gentle expression: "Dad, don't worry, that person won't come out. Even if he does, I will protect you."
Bei Chen is still just a child, yet he can say such things.
He Lingchuan couldn't help but be moved. His eyes softened, and he even wanted to take Beichen to the ward for a good hug.
He tried to squat down and hug Beichen, but with every movement, he felt as if his body was about to fall apart.
He Lingchuan looked at the person in front of him with a helpless expression, wanting to but unable to: "Beichen, Daddy really can't squat down. When Daddy is better, Daddy will give you a good hug, okay?"
Bei Chen gently patted He Lingchuan's hand, a bright smile playing on his lips, a smile unique to children: "Dad, don't worry, I'm right here, I won't leave you."
As Bei Chen spoke, she gently embraced He Lingchuan.
He Lingchuan reached out to hug him back when he heard a shout from not far away: "He Lingchuan, what are you doing? Let go of Beichen."
Shen Yanxi ran towards him as if she had seen a human trafficker, shouting as she did so.
He Lingchuan frowned, his eyes filled with doubt as he looked at Shen Yanxi: "This is a hospital, how come you..."
Shen Yanxi ignored what he said, pushed his shoulder aside, and held Bei Chen tightly in her arms.
"He Lingchuan, you've already harmed Nan Chen, now you want to make your move on Bei Chen?"
She glared at him as if he were her enemy: "Stay away from the child."
