Outside, the moon hung high in the sky, its cold light shining on the Netherworld Abyss, yet unable to penetrate the barrier of the Netherworld Cold Pool. Within the dim pool, only Qi Yu's body emitted a faint glow.
The water-repelling bead formed a small shield around her, blocking the pool water. The further downstream she went, the more turbid the water became. Qi Yu forced her sore eyes open, trying to see the situation in the water clearly.
After following for a while, the strange fish seemed to be afraid of something, huddled together in one place, whimpering and making mournful noises, as if trying to persuade Qi Yu to stop.
Qi Yu listened to the persistent cries, ignoring the unease in her heart. She wasn't one to sit idly by and wait for death; she needed to break the deadlock and find a way out.
The barrier acted like a cage, firmly locking the Netherworld Cold Pool in place. Since we couldn't go up, we could only explore downwards.
The water was dark and gloomy, with faint, eerie noises emanating from it. Qi Yu was cautiously and slowly swimming downstream when the system suddenly started speaking again, startling her.
[Friendly reminder: Midnight is approaching. Your daily good deed task is not yet complete. Please complete the task in time to prevent the system from forcibly putting it into a dormant state and freezing the function.]
Qi Yu: ? ?
Does "doing a good deed every day" really mean doing one good deed every single day?!
Right now, the person who needs help the most is herself, isn't she?
Besides her, the only other thing around here is a relentless monster chasing after her.
Suddenly, Qi Yu caught a glimpse of a dark blue figure out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head and looked again, but found no trace of the figure.
She looked around carefully. Some belongings that should belong to people who died here were floating in the water. The strange fish were still calling out in the distance. She wasn't sure if she was seeing things, but she continued to swim to the bottom of the pool.
Finally, after about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, a creature appeared before Qi Yu, a creature that was hard to call either human or monster.
He had long, silvery-white hair that swayed with the ripples. He was completely naked, bound by rusty iron chains to a huge rock at the bottom of the pool.
If it weren't for the fact that where his ears should be, he had a pair of small wings covered in white feathers, Qi Yu would have mistaken him for the legendary siren.
He looked like he was imprisoned here. The wings on either side of his head were dirty and covered his eyes. His lips were sickly pale, and his body was covered with wounds of all sizes. There were two shocking scars on his shoulder blades.
This should be the key to getting out.
He just didn't know how to break the chain. Qi Yu used his sword to pry at the chains fixed to the stone, pondering what would happen if he cut them.
Rescuing this person from captivity, I wonder if that counts as doing a good deed for the day?
Let's take a gamble.
Regardless of whether this person seems unlikely to wake up anytime soon, even if he were released to kill her, she could handle it. In comparison, the system crashing would be a much faster way to kill her without the healing effect of her saintly aura.
Without hesitation, Qi Yu raised his sword and slashed fiercely at the chains.
After several attempts to break it, the chain remained unmoved.
I don't know what material this chain is made of, but the sword the system gave me shouldn't be too bad, yet it has absolutely no effect on cutting it.
Qi Yu pondered for a moment, then raised his sword and aimed it at the spot where the chain was fixed to the boulder, continuing to slash with his sword.
Fortunately, the stone was no match for her sword, and it was quickly cleaved open with a hole.
After working hard for a while, like chopping wood, Qi Yu finally cut off both joints and carefully examined the chain.
This thing might be somewhat useful.
I'll put it into my system inventory and keep it for later use.
Suddenly, Qi Yu felt a chill on her neck. She raised her sword and looked up sharply, meeting a pair of blood-red eyes.
The "birdman" spread out the wings on his ears, revealing a face so white it was almost transparent. His phoenix eyes were slightly narrowed, his eyelashes were long and thin, and his eyes were clear and bright. He stared at Qi Yu with a curious look as if he were unaware of the ways of the world, yet he also exuded an ominous and sinister aura.
He didn't speak, but his voice resonated directly in Qi Yu's mind:
"Who are you……"
"My destined one?"
Qi Yu was stunned for a moment, then shook her head violently to shake off the jumbled thoughts in her mind.
Beauty can be deceiving; this male demon is even trying to seduce people!
The bird demon reached out his hand, as if to hug her.
Qi Yu cautiously dodged backward, but then sensed a dangerous aura. Before she could turn around, her back was viciously slashed by a pair of sharp claws.
She was in so much pain that her body arched forward violently, and she spat out a mouthful of blood, along with the water-repelling beads in her mouth.
Wow!
Qi Yu reached out in alarm to grab it, but the water-repelling pearl turned into dust and disappeared into the water.
A strong feeling of suffocation overwhelmed her, almost causing her to faint.
Just as she was about to suffocate, the bird demon grabbed her arm, pulled her into his embrace, and gently pressed his thin lips to her mouth, breathing in her breath.
Miraculously, the feeling of suffocation disappeared. Before she could even lament her lost first kiss, Qi Yu struggled to escape from the bird demon's embrace and turned around to look.
A monster with a human head and a fish body, its face contorted in a ferocious manner, stared intently at her, bearing a striking resemblance to the "mermaids" described in supernatural tales.
The mermaid's fish tail was half rotten, a sickly dark blue, one eye socket was empty, and the white of the other eye almost filled the entire eye socket.
It was the same figure that Qi Yu saw when he dived down.
The merman's sharp claws still had bits of flesh attached to them.
Qi Yu frowned deeply; that was all her flesh.
As the pool water, stained with blood, rippled by, the mermaid's gills behind its ears twitched slightly, its expression growing increasingly frenzied.
Qi Yu's back was burning hot, and the situation was critical, but the physical pain made her even more awake.
She gripped the Sword of Compassion tightly in her right hand, holding it in front of her to guard against another attack from the merfolk.
