Chapter 4 The Boy in the Room

As the sound faded, the murals and reliefs throughout the room began to vibrate violently. Lu Zhaozhao looked around and saw that the strange beasts on the walls had started to wriggle, as if they were about to break free of the walls and rush towards her.

Will these things break out? If they do, can I handle so many monsters?

In an instant, countless thoughts surfaced in her mind.

The walls shook more and more violently, and it seemed that what was inside was about to emerge. Lu Zhaozhao summoned Niye and was about to draw her sword when she glanced at a shadowy spot under the innermost lamp and stopped.

Is it dark under the lamp?

She feigned a defensive stance and gradually approached the shadows. Ni Ye extended his sword from its sheath by a foot, the cold light shining on her face and reflecting her tense expression.

When the shadow was no more than ten feet away, it suddenly swayed.

We've been discovered!

Without time to think, Lu Zhaozhao decisively drew her sword and stabbed.

Niye was once the sword of the enlightened ancestor of the Lu family in Jiangning. When drawn, the blade gleamed and was invisible in the dark. It was a deadly weapon. For more than a hundred years, only the original owner, Lu Zhaozhao, had wielded this sword.

While reading the book, Lu Zhaozhao once complained that this sword was hidden in the dark and invisible, but dazzling in the light. When the sword was drawn, the blade was sharp and could kill with a single blow. Wasn't that just like this vicious female supporting character?

But when she actually picked up the sword, she realized just how deadly it was.

In no time, the tip of the sword, carrying a sharp sword aura, pointed towards that corner.

A dark figure rolled away with incredible speed, and in an instant, the sword energy cleaved the long lantern behind him in two.

Without the shadow of the long lamp, the dark figure revealed its true form.

He was a young boy.

Lu Zhaozhao pointed her sword at him and looked him up and down.

The light and shadow shone on his face. His long eyebrows were like willow branches, and his eyes were bright, like jade mountains reflecting light. However, his lips were pale, and his face had a faint sickly pallor, with a sickly whiteness.

However, no matter how Lu Zhaozhao probed with her spiritual sense, she could not sense any cultivation level in this person.

Was he just a mortal?

Lu Zhaozhao suddenly remembered a line that was mentioned in the book: "A young man in the city obtained this opportunity and established his foundation in one step." Could it be referring to the person in front of her?

She was unsure, yet dared not easily sheathe her sword.

As the stalemate continued, the man suddenly clenched his fist, covered his mouth, and coughed violently.

After a long while, he finally caught his breath and slowly looked up at Lu Zhaozhao.

"Don't worry, fairy, I am just a mortal and can't hurt you."

Like the tinkling of jade pendants, it has a very pleasant sound.

But Lu Zhaozhao still held her sword and said coldly, "A mere mortal? I don't believe it. You were able to break through the maze in the forest and conceal your aura here without even me noticing. This is not something a mere mortal could do. Also, these swaying murals and reliefs are your work, aren't they?"

Lu Zhaozhao pointed it out directly, but he wasn't guilty at all. He waved his hand a few times, and the relief sculpture stopped, which made Lu Zhaozhao even more vigilant.

The boy opposite tilted his head, somewhat puzzled: "I've already made them all stop."

After speaking, he quietly looked at Lu Zhaozhao.

Lu Zhaozhao felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze. She paused, put down her sword, but did not sheath it.

"How did you get in?" The maze outside showed no signs of being disturbed, and she couldn't understand how this person had gotten in.

"Come in? Go in where?" The boy looked at Lu Zhaozhao with a puzzled expression.

An absurd thought popped into Lu Zhaozhao's mind, and she asked uncertainly, "Are you the person in the painting on the jade steps ahead?"

But the boy just shook his head.

"So who exactly are you?" Lu Zhaozhao asked, a little curious.

"I don't know, I've been here since I opened my eyes," the boy said, his face also filled with doubt. As he spoke, he pulled out a wooden plaque with some kind of symbol engraved on it.

Lu Zhaozhao took it and listened as he continued, "They said these two characters are Wen Sheng. Since this thing is hanging on me, it must be my name! They also said..."

"Wait!" Lu Zhaozhao interrupted him, "Who are they?"

“They are them, didn’t you just see them?” Wen Sheng replied. He didn’t understand why this person, who looked as beautiful as a celestial being, always asked strange questions and said strange things, just like now, when she was staring at them in a daze.

What he didn't know was that at that moment, Lu Zhaozhao was internally screaming with frustration.

"Damn, what did he just say? He communicated with the murals! Is there such a person in the book?" Lu Zhaozhao was a little overwhelmed. Ever since she transmigrated into the book, she had pretended to be calm and collected every day because she had read the book and knew the plot. But it had only been less than a month, and now there was a bug outside the plot.

She took two deep breaths and cheered herself up: "It's okay, it's okay. Maybe he'll stay here just like in the book. It's not really a bug."

The more she thought about it, the more sense it made. Her gaze gradually hardened, and she resolutely turned to face the boy who wasn't described in detail in the book.

"Um, my name is Lu Zhaozhao, nice to meet you." After saying that, she extended her hand to him.

The boy was taken aback by her sudden action, and at her prompting glance, he also reached out his hand in confusion.

Lu Zhaozhao grabbed it.

Upon closer inspection, he actually fits Lu Zhaozhao's aesthetic perfectly; he is a clear-eyed boy with no aggression and his eyes are full of curiosity about the world.

A thought struck her, and Lu Zhaozhao asked, "Have you been staying here the whole time without going out?"

The boy nodded, and continued in his clear voice, "I can't open the door, but many people have opened it from the outside, just like you. But as soon as they came in, they attacked them. They said that people are all bad, but you are different. You don't attack them, and you are beautiful, just like the fairy in their stories."

Lu Zhaozhao was amused by his words. If someone else had said these words, she might have thought they were pretentious, but the young man in front of her looked almost the same age as her, and his eyes were full of sincerity, which only made her find it interesting.

Lu Zhaozhao then asked, "What about the people who came in before?"

“They drew me into the painting!” Wen Sheng said casually.

Lu Zhaozhao concealed her smile, her eyes filled with awe and worry as she looked at the mural. She then pointed to the platform in the distance and asked, "What's in there?"

Wen Sheng looked in the direction she pointed, a hint of hesitation in her eyes: "They said it was a terrible thing, put there by a madman covered in blood."

Covered in blood, a madman?

Lu Zhaozhao immediately understood.

The owner of this place suffered damage to his inner demons and Dao heart. Although he found a way to suppress them, it seems he has failed. The box probably contains that secret manual.

Lu Zhaozhao stepped forward again and reached out to take it, but Wen Sheng stopped her.

"What are you going to do?" Wen Sheng hurriedly tried to stop him.

Lu Zhaozhao's hands kept moving. "It's exactly what you see."

Wen Sheng panicked and shouted, "I won't let you touch me!"

After saying that, he reached out to grab Lu Zhaozhao.

Lu Zhaozhao easily shook off his hand and reached straight for the box. Wen Sheng couldn't stop her and also tried to snatch the box.

Seeing this, Lu Zhaozhao's lips curled up slightly. She deliberately paused for a moment before touching the box. Wen Sheng quickly took the box out and ran away.

But before he could run two steps, he realized that the thing in his hand was gone. He turned around and saw Lu Zhaozhao looking at the box with a playful expression. She looked up at him and smiled, "Thanks for taking it out for me."
