Jiang Cheng got off the bus at the street corner and walked among the crowd. He walked along the familiar street, and after a while, he looked up and saw the familiar sign.
This Western restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows. Across the road, Jiang Cheng could clearly see a girl sitting behind the glass. She was wearing a gray wool sweater, her hair was tied up, and half of her face was exposed.
A cat was lying on the table, looking slightly lazy, with its eyes half-closed.
The moment Jiang Cheng caught a glimpse of her, his breath hitched, and he felt a discomfort in his throat and a stinging sensation in his nose.
Inside the bustling Western restaurant, waiters came and went, and guests chatted and laughed. Luo Xiaoli rested her chin on her hands, looking at them with a somewhat forlorn expression.
Then, a strangely dressed waiter brought a steak to her side and seemed to ask her something. Luo Xiaoli mouthed "oh" and gently pushed Xiao Bi.
Little Bi wisely rolled two spaces to the side and yawned.
So the plate was placed on the table, and Luo Xiaoli turned her head to say thank you. She then turned back and looked expectantly at the food on the plate.
Jiang Cheng didn't know how to describe his feelings. He calmed himself down a bit and started walking towards the store door.
Luo Xiaoli happened to turn her head at that moment and glanced at the spot where he had just been through the glass. As if sensing something, she tilted her head slightly.
She had a strange feeling in her heart, but then thought she was just overthinking it.
Okay, after dinner I still have homework to do. Luo Xiaoli smiled and patted Xiao Bi, then picked up her fork.
A "ding-a-ling" sound.
Jiang Cheng pushed open the door and walked into the restaurant. A waiter wearing a red nose immediately came over and was about to ask, "Sir, would you like to eat...?"
But before he could finish speaking, Jiang Cheng waved his hand to interrupt him. He made a shushing gesture and pointed to the window, where Luo Xiaoli's back was very conspicuous.
The waiter understood and slowly took two steps back.
From his perspective, he could see that Luo Xiaoli probably left home without washing her hair today. She was lazily looking down, holding a fork while seemingly lost in thought.
Jiang Cheng deliberately controlled his steps, tiptoeing over.
As he passed by Luo Xiaoli, he lifted the hem of her coat, her gray sweater and trousers brushing against each other. Then, he casually sat down opposite her.
Just a moment ago, Luo Xiaoli was staring at a piece of steak on her fork. The sauces at this restaurant were always exceptional, and she used them to soothe her sad emotions.
She suddenly noticed a figure opposite her and looked up.
Suddenly, she stopped moving, her expression froze, the fork hovered in mid-air, and her mind went blank as she stared straight at that familiar face.
Is it a hallucination?
In that half-second of confusion, she thought this.
"Hello, miss, how's the steak?"
The voice that Luo Xiaoli had been dreaming of hearing rang in her ears.
"I'm a taste tester for this restaurant! Nice to meet you."
"Miss, why aren't you saying anything? You're so beautiful, will you be my girlfriend?"
Jiang Cheng rested his chin on his hand and asked with a smile.
Luo Xiaoli stared at him, her eyes unblinking, her movements frozen, only a surge of emotions instantly flooding her mind.
An overwhelming sense of injustice washed over her, choking her breath.
The waves crashed fiercely against the shore, shooting stars streaked across the horizon with long trails, and seagulls fearlessly plunged into the icy current.
Emotions are growing stronger, enveloping everything, and carrying the fiercest and most impactful feelings in the world.
It felt like a tsunami was raging inside her, but when it was shown, only her face showed astonishment, and then her eyes began to redden.
Jiang Cheng could see with his naked eye that Luo Xiaoli's eyes were filled with tears, which were rising and rising until they filled her entire eye bags.
A tear rolled down the cheek of this face, so beautiful it could win the favor of the gods.
She choked up instantly.
"You... why did it take you so long to get back?"
"You just lied to me! You said you weren't coming back... How mean of you."
Luo Xiaoli's lips curved into a smile, and within seconds she burst into tears, uttering incomplete sentences in a broken and fragmented manner.
For some, the end of the world is a cataclysmic event, the extinction of humanity, and the destruction of cities, ruins, and corpses lying on the ground, with invaders eyeing them with predatory intent.
For some people, their end is not seeing you again.
For people living in this world, everything they possess is all they have.
For Luo Xiaoli, Jiangcheng is everything.
He hurriedly pulled out a tissue, sat down beside her, wiped away her tears, and gently comforted her, "It's okay, don't cry."
Luo Xiaoli hugged him tightly, her arms tightening as if she wanted to pull him into her very being.
The sound of sobbing echoed in Jiang Cheng's ears as she whispered, "I miss you so much, so much, really..."
He patted Luo Xiaoli on the back.
They embraced in the mortal world, just one of countless ordinary couples.
At this moment, all the noise and commotion outside had nothing to do with them.
The cat, lying on the table in the Western restaurant, is watching this scene.
