Chapter 198 In my eyes, you are an eternal hero

After comforting her for an unknown amount of time, Luo Xiaoli finally loosened her grip a little. Jiang Cheng took the opportunity to let out a long sigh of relief. He could feel that his shoulder was soaked through, and there were obvious water stains on that spot.

It's often said that women are made of water, and that's certainly true.

Xiao Li was such a crybaby. She cried for about twenty minutes after she started hugging herself. Jiang Cheng could tell from her mumbled, indistinct words that she really missed him.

Those water stains are clear proof.

Women are mostly emotional creatures; their way of thinking is different from men's, so they are more prone to emotional outbursts.

Although Jiang Cheng felt an indescribable sadness as he saw his lover's eyes gradually redden and her expression freeze, he could not express the feeling of tears covering her entire face.

Perhaps, even in the most chaotic moments of emotion, the only manifestation would be a distorted voice and a slight tremor in the fingertips.

At the same time, Jiang Cheng felt a pang of guilt. He began to regret why he had waited three months, from the New Year to the spring, to find a chance to go home.

In fact, he could have not taken the research plan so seriously; he still had a chance to catch his breath. But when that damned sense of responsibility and ambition surged up, he abandoned all other emotions, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that he shut down the longing in his heart.

Jiang Cheng made this choice at the crucial moment, and therefore felt guilty.

Faced with two options, he chose to fight for the future of humanity.

He didn't regret it, but he felt somewhat sorry for his lover.

In reality, a sense of responsibility is a complex thing. Children have a responsibility to support their parents. As a scientific researcher, he has a responsibility to the members who trust him in his plans. And he has a responsibility to Luo Xiaoli, his lover.

In short, it is very difficult to take all aspects into consideration.

No matter how much his lover cried or how tightly she held him, he couldn't complain, because he knew that Luo Xiaoli was venting and releasing the emotions she had kept bottled up inside for so long.

It turned out there was a dam, which she built herself, firmly blocking those things in her mind and keeping them in their place.

But the sudden appearance of Jiangcheng undoubtedly destroyed this dam, and the floodwaters surged out, completely overwhelming reason.

This behavior is very similar to that of a young child who, after being robbed of their lollipop by a nasty kindergarten bully, clenches their fists tightly and won't cry no matter how much they're bullied. But once they see their parents, the person who can protect them, a sudden surge of grievance wells up inside them.

Children who have no one to protect them must be strong, because they have no one to rely on and can only build a defensive barrier to block out their weakness.

Crying is very tiring. After crying for so long, Luo Xiaoli was a little hungry. She could only sob slightly. Jiang Cheng comforted her a few more times, then called the waiter and ordered another steak. He told Luo Xiaoli, "Okay, stop crying. Let's eat. We still have to go home after we eat."

She nodded, giving a slightly aggrieved "Mmm," but just a few seconds after picking up her fork, she suddenly asked, "How many days are you staying this time?"

Jiang Cheng was stumped by the question. He hadn't thought about this at all on his way here, and now he couldn't give her a satisfactory answer.

He could only reply, "I don't know either, I'll try to stay a few more days."

Luo Xiaoli's eyes instantly turned very resentful. He quickly waved his hand and changed the subject, thus getting rid of the matter.

The little dog lay on the table, its round head hovering between its two owners' faces, its bright, watery eyes revealing an unreadable emotion.

Spring days are still short. It's been more than half an hour since we arrived in Lanjing from Jiangcheng. The sky is slowly darkening. There's no sunset glow today. Instead, the distant horizon is shrouded in a hazy mist, like a thin film, making the world seem to blur.

Unlike everything during the day, at night reason and clarity are replaced by surging emotions.

They enjoyed the cozy dinner and planned to return to their comforting little home afterward.

It wasn't luxurious, unlike the dreamlike resting place described in any extravagant article, but it gave one the feeling of being in a gentle ocean current, so that even if one closed their eyes and disappeared there, they wouldn't feel any regret.

As the car drove through the streets of Lanjing, Jiang Cheng and Luo Xiaoli embarked on their journey home. When he looked out the window, the scenery was rushing by.

He looked at the ordinary sycamore trees, the stone steps surrounding the greenway, and the landmark buildings. Things he had never paid attention to before now gave him an indescribable feeling. After a long silence, Jiang Cheng slowly realized that this feeling was called: homecoming.

He traveled thousands of miles to the Black Tower in Pittsburgh to obtain data, watched the Ohio River flow quietly, and took charge of the space docking project in a remote northern town, becoming an unparalleled decision-maker. In just three months, Jiang Cheng did not feel how slowly time passed.

In other words, he wasn't suffering because he was completely immersed in it.

But now, gazing at these familiar sights, a sudden surge of homesickness welled up within him; he felt an unbreakable bond with the place where he had grown up.

Life itself is meaningless. We live not to search for meaning, but rather, everything we experience and feel in life gives us meaning.
