They formed a circle, each creature standing on a fixed fulcrum, shaped much like a hexagon, falling under countless gazes, finally landing on the ground.
The place where we landed was the Arctic, where the surface is perpetually covered in snow, a vast expanse of white. From a distance, every gaze is filled with reverence, and one feels a deep respect for this sacred land.
Glaciers have existed since time immemorial. No matter how many years have passed, they will not melt, unlike flowers or rain.
Those fleeting and intense moments can never be compared to the solidified ones; they exist only for a moment, while glaciers endure for ages, their bodies bearing the snow blown in from the other side of the wind.
This is a unique kind of tenderness.
The invaders successfully reached the surface, where they defined an area, their tentacles extending downwards like tree roots, firmly imprisoning the glacier and taking root.
Have you located where they landed?
"They've been detected. I'm heading towards them." The voice on the walkie-talkie came through to the office, along with the location information.
Several researchers carrying firearms and signal transmission equipment walked through the snow, their eyes filled with an endless expanse of white that made them dizzy.
Fortunately, the intruder was under close human surveillance when it fell from the sky; otherwise, it would have been no easy task to spot the intruder, whose body color was almost indistinguishable from the snow, in such a landscape.
Jiang Cheng stared at the screen, at the image transmitted from the Arctic: a tall European man carrying equipment, walking forward step by step.
He already had a plan in mind, knowing what kind of scene he was about to witness.
A silvery glow rose from the ground, and above the jellyfish monster, a flower that was difficult to describe and almost transparent bloomed.
The light kept climbing upwards without stopping, and even though it was still a kilometer away, the walking researchers had already fixed their gaze on it.
It was a thin film, like frosted glass, that sealed off the space and led straight to the sky, soon piercing through the entire firmament.
What's terrifying is that as they got closer, researchers discovered that the land where the invaders had taken root had completely lost its original color, as if the land's vitality had been absorbed and used to nourish them.
An indistinct substance is being scattered throughout this space, like seeds.
They actually planted seeds on the land of humankind!
When the footage was transmitted to the office, Tali's brow furrowed instantly.
What about all the efforts of all the researchers and federal staff so far? In the end, the invaders still managed to reach the surface and began to conquer this land in their own way.
The inability to attack by any physical means means that bullets, plasma cannons, and thermal weapons are rendered useless. Even if a dagger is thrown, "Mirror" will still bounce back with the same force.
So what should we do to stop the tragedy of extinction, and how long can we let them continue to devour this land and take over our homes?
"Workers at the Arctic observation station, listen to me, do not fire on that area. It's completely ineffective. Observe first, and retreat immediately if anything happens."
"Okay, I understand!" The staff member responded, his breathing rapid.
The young European man holding the equipment was trying to get closer to transmit everything clearly back. He didn't know what dangers he would face; he only knew that he had to lead the charge.
Fortunately, nothing terrible happened.
The jellyfish's tentacles stopped moving and disappeared beneath its body, embedding themselves firmly in the glacier to absorb energy.
It calmly blooms its flowers, just like the snow lotus on the high mountain, and even brings a strange sense of beauty.
After capturing the footage, Jiang Cheng understood that once he stepped into the area, it would be like entering a closed, isolated space where all signals would be cut off, resulting in a complete loss of contact.
Isn't the H-012 satellite, which still exists high in the sky today, a case in point?
"Why... this area is black? What's moving in there...?" the person holding the equipment asked his companion.
How would I know?
"Wait! It seems... it's expanding, it's really expanding!" The equipment jolted violently, and the image shook twice.
Everyone in the office was extremely anxious, wondering what the situation was like over there.
Tali's voice also came through the walkie-talkie.
"The snow I was just standing on has been swallowed up by space. This hexagonal area is expanding, albeit very slowly, but it is definitely extending outwards, no doubt about it."
Many researchers gasped for breath upon hearing this.
Will they expand indefinitely, until they conquer the entire planet?
"Don't panic, they don't have that much power, otherwise the outer perimeter of our planet would have been swallowed up long ago. Expansion must have limits." Jiang Cheng's reminder reassured everyone a little.
Jiang Cheng walked to the front, took the walkie-talkie from Tali's hand, and ordered, "There's no danger for now. The intruders seem to be performing some kind of ritual. Send someone in to check, and the rest of you wait outside."
"yes!"
The Arctic staff looked at each other in bewilderment, until finally the young man gritted his teeth and raised his gun.
"Okay, you guys wait for me here."
The valiant warrior strode directly toward the hexagonal space, where the thin membrane appeared before him, within reach.
So he reached out and gently touched it with his hand.
Ripples immediately appeared, like a pebble being thrown into a calm body of water.
He didn't feel anything special, just something soft, so he wasn't so afraid anymore and stepped into it.
Amidst the watchful eyes of everyone, it went inside.
The audience fell silent. Chen Ang swallowed hard and waited quietly, as if even his breathing had stopped.
Others weren't much better off; today was probably the most terrifying day of many people's lives.
A minute passed.
Two minutes passed.
The person still hasn't come out.
The European guy holding the equipment had cold sweat dripping from his palms. Those waiting outside the space were undoubtedly feeling even heavier, because their friends, with whom they spent every day, were going in.
However, it was merely a membrane that was not clearly visible.
It blocked everything in the world.
Eyesight, gunfire, signals... nothing could penetrate it, not even a call.
It seems that the person was already dead the moment they stepped inside.
Just when everyone felt despair, a pair of hands suddenly reached out from the space, followed by a head, and then he was thrown out, falling to the ground on the snow, shouting urgently.
"There's life inside! There's life inside! Something alive!"
