As dawn broke, the air grew misty.
A ray of light shone into the window of a room on the first floor, touching the white sheets. Irregular trapezoidal spots of light were reflected on a leg that was raised high. The leg was tightly wrapped in bandages, and it looked stiff with a cast inside.
Luo Xiaoli stared quietly at her legs, occasionally hearing the rustling sound of pages turning. She narrowed her eyes, a smile playing on her lips, making her already delicate features even more beautiful. Although she had two bandages on her left cheek, it didn't detract from her appearance; her skin remained fair, and a hint of smugness appeared in her eyes.
Jiang Cheng stared intently at the document, picked up a pen from the small table beside him, signed his name at the very end, and then put it down.
He selected strawberries from a variety of fruits, washed them very clean, and now they are arranged in a basket, each one like a ruby, sparkling in the sunlight.
Jiang Cheng was currently using a fruit knife to cut off the green knots on the surface, then reached out and offered it to Luo Xiaoli's lips.
She opened her mouth, tilted her head back slightly, and swallowed it in one gulp. She pursed her lips and chewed with her right cheek because using her left cheek would aggravate the wound and cause her pain.
After Jiang Cheng patiently fed her many pills, Luo Xiaoli's eyes showed increasing joy. She enjoyed the quiet process. She even thought that if she could have such focused and serious companionship from her boyfriend, experiencing pain and getting minor injuries every now and then would not be a bad thing at all.
This scene was very warm and ordinary; they seemed to be just an ordinary couple, a common sight in many hospitals.
Unfortunately, they are not.
There were countless soldiers in the corridor outside the hospital wards, and there were only a few wards on the entire floor, so it seemed so quiet.
This is a federal temporary wartime hospital. Luo Xiaoli is a driver selected from countless outstanding students, making her incredibly valuable. Her only companion is the federal commander, who just yesterday commanded a large-scale anti-invasion war using heavy weaponry.
Within the dimension of death, the black sphere exploded, and the beam of light that shot out caused the Federation, which had been dominating, to suffer a crushing defeat. Luo Xiaoli, who was piloting the Snow Maiden, was also injured, but fortunately, she managed to escape the dimension at the last moment, avoiding death, though she suffered a broken leg.
This was the next day.
After experiencing this incident, Jiang Cheng seemed to have awakened to something, and has been staying in the ward since last night, even moving his office to this place.
"Could you describe the scene again?" Luo Xiaoli finished chewing the strawberry in her mouth and said the sentence she had said ten times since yesterday.
Jiang Cheng wasn't impatient. Instead, he put down the strawberries in his hand and patiently explained, "I was terrified. My ears were ringing, I didn't know if it was from the explosion or a physiological reaction. I felt unsteady on my feet, like I was about to step into cotton and fall... The surging tide enveloped me, my whole body was ice-cold, and my heart was being washed away by the cold water, almost stopping. I felt like I couldn't breathe. Until I saw the War Maiden's figure fall out of the dimension, kicking up a snowflake," he said, raising his eyes to look at Luo Xiaoli, then lowering them again, his eyelashes falling onto his eyelids, "In that instant, the tide receded, and I was able to gasp for breath, and I had the strength to run towards you. When I opened the hatch, I saw you, pale-faced, lying quietly in the bubble, still clenching your fists, the kind that you couldn't pry open no matter how hard you tried. Then I couldn't control my tears. It felt like I was suddenly brought back to life when life was fading away, the wind was there, the colors were rich, and a ray of light rushed into the dark world, shining on me as I knelt and prayed."
Jiang Cheng pulled the chair closer and leaned against her, whose eyes were already red. Every time he spoke, she seemed to cry again. He didn't know why she had become so fragile. Tears dripped onto the sheets as if they were free.
She gestured for Jiang Cheng to come closer. Due to her limited mobility, she could only hug him in a very stiff position, rubbing her nose and body against him vigorously. It was like a lost kitten that had finally found its way home after a long time, opened the door, saw its owner, and rubbed against him as if it wanted to get its scent all over the human before it would stop.
After crying for a while, she looked at Jiang Cheng and suddenly burst into laughter, her lips curving down and her small nose wrinkling.
"Then...did everyone see you hugging me?"
"I think most people saw it."
“Everyone knows that your behavior has definitely aroused suspicion, and there may already be rumors circulating.” Luo Xiaoli said to Jiang Cheng with her eyes wide open, as if asking a question.
"It's okay, if you know, you know. There's no point in hiding it."
Jiang Cheng was completely unconcerned. He didn't realize that what he said had hit the nail on the head with his girlfriend. He didn't notice that she was secretly delighted after hearing it, her eyes crinkling down with laughter, but she still tried not to show it too obviously. Her little thoughts were really cute.
"It's not appropriate for you to stay here with me instead of dealing with your own affairs."
"I've been working on it, you can rest or browse your phone. I'll stay here unless there's an important meeting."
Okay~
She had now completely forgotten about the terrifying axe. The massive weapons war that had terrified her yesterday seemed to have vanished from her mind. The smoke and the endless artillery fire were all invisible, as if they had never happened. In just one night, she was filled with the words "boyfriend."
Being obsessed with love is indeed terrifying.
However, Jiang Cheng could not forget. He kept recalling the details of the war, the reasons for the eventual defeat, the unreasonable aspects of the arrangements, how to appease the soldiers, and how to inspire new fighting spirit.
