He kept reminding himself of this, and then turned his gaze further away.
"I took the picture!"
Just thinking about the scene made Zhao Xuerou laugh uncontrollably. She stood in the living room, doubled over with laughter, describing the scene: "Of course I took pictures! Don't you know how stubborn you are? But the pictures were really ugly..."
As she spoke, Zhao Xuerou covered her flushed face and ran to Jiang Cheng, giggling and resting her chin on her hand: "Look, even if I'm not particularly good-looking, I'm at least above average among ordinary people, right? Back then, under your camera, I looked like a ghost. Not a single one of the hundred photos was good. Seriously, they were all useless!"
"……good."
Listening to his own long and embarrassing past, Jiang Cheng couldn't face it all and lowered his eyes in a somewhat escapist manner.
Zhao Xuerou chuckled as she strolled around the living room, sipping her red wine. "Oh right, and there's a small bag that's been sitting in the drawer of my dressing table in my bedroom."
"What bag?" Jiang Cheng perked up a bit when he heard about the new item.
Although this method of finding things is extremely slow, it can at least provide some clues, which is better than nothing.
"You knitted it for me by hand!" Zhao Xuerou tilted her head and looked at Jiang Cheng with a smile. "You said that you spent several nights in the dormitory knitting it for me. Although you are clumsy and the finished product is basically unusable, I know that the sentiment is the most precious thing, so I have treasured it until now!"
As she spoke, she ran straight into the bedroom, took out the ugly little bag again, and held it in her hands as if it were a treasure: "It's okay, even if it's not pretty, I don't care. I showed it off to all my girlfriends, and they said I was love-struck and told me to buy insurance, hahaha!"
Zhao Xuerou's face turned even redder, and even her neck and chest became pink.
Seeing her somewhat disoriented state, Jiang Cheng quickly said, "Are you allergic to alcohol? You should drink less..."
"fine!"
Zhao Xuerou waved her hand casually, squinting her eyes and smiling, "I'm so happy today! I'm definitely going to drink a lot! Hehe..."
As she spoke, she ran straight to the sofa, leaving a trail of tiny water droplets on the tiles as she ran barefoot.
Zhao Xuerou didn't even look, and immediately collapsed onto the sofa. Luckily, she didn't fall to the ground, but rather slumped heavily into the soft sofa.
"Slow down."
Seeing her acting like a spoiled little girl, Jiang Cheng sighed and rubbed his forehead, saying helplessly, "Don't fall."
He didn't want to interfere with her, but Jiang Cheng was still a little worried because Zhao Xuerou kept doing such dangerous things.
However, after lying down, Zhao Xuerou became much more well-behaved, only continuing to swirl the wine glass in her hand and murmuring, "Also, I remember that year under the cherry blossom tree at USTC, the first lipstick you gave me. Although it wasn't expensive and the color wasn't very suitable for me, you said that you did a lot of research and went to many department store counters to find the color."
"And our first pair of rings, though they weren't expensive, just ordinary silver rings, I secretly engraved our initials on the inner band. I don't know if you ever found out about my little secret. Actually, I fell in love with you from that moment on. Even if you can't even buy me a diamond ring in the end, I'm still willing to marry you."
"And another thing! The first tie I bought for you is still safely kept! You always say you don't like overly flashy colors, so you rarely wear it. But the gold thread on that tie was actually hand-woven in by me. I even pricked my fingers several times for it, haha. I didn't want to tell you before because I was afraid you'd feel bad, but now I just want to help you remember everything about us!"
"Oh right, and there's that commemorative coin in my bedside table. It's from the planetarium we went to on our honeymoon after we got married. I mentioned that I really liked Pegasus, and you got me this commemorative coin."
"There are so many more, so many more, all of them are our memories..."
As she said this, Zhao Xuerou's eyelids could no longer stay open and began to droop slowly.
Whether it was the exhaustion from a day's work or the effects of alcohol, she lay down on the sofa and slowly closed her eyes.
Jiang Cheng thought Zhao Xuerou was asleep, so he tiptoed into the bedroom, took a small blanket from the cabinet, and gently draped it over her shoulder.
As Jiang Cheng passed by that small French window, he vaguely saw the lights outside.
Night had fallen, with only a few stars still twinkling in the east. Bathed in the soft moonlight, the earth slowly and quietly sank into a warm and inviting twilight. And where the lights shone brightly, it was the bustling city where families were enjoying themselves. Rows of streetlights illuminated the streets teeming with pedestrians.
The city seemed to be immersed in an ocean of light.
Young men and women like Zhao Xuerou from Jiangcheng live in cramped apartments. When they comfort and warm each other, they hug each other to ward off the coldness emanating from the reinforced concrete structures.
How lonely it must be for a person to exist in this world...
For some reason, Jiang Cheng stood on the dimly lit balcony with a blanket in hand, looking at everything in the distance, and a strange sense of loneliness suddenly welled up in his heart.
But he came to his senses again and stopped worrying about these unfounded emotions. He simply took the blanket and returned to Zhao Xuerou's side.
He had memorized everything Zhao Xuerou had said. He would investigate thoroughly tomorrow when he had some free time and Zhao Xuerou wasn't home. Finding the projector was now of utmost urgency.
