Chapter 183 I Want to Spend Some Time Alone with Your Mother
Qi Wende's face turned to the side after being hit, and he gritted his teeth and said, "Manman, I'm sorry!"
"Slap!" Shi Jingman slapped him again. "What's the use of apologizing to me now?"
"Do you know how your dutiful mother and your brother have treated me?"
Do you know how I got through it all by myself?
...
Every time Shi Jingman said a sentence, she would slap Qi Wende across the face.
Qi Wende remained motionless, stubbornly enduring the pain.
When Chu Rou saw that Qi Wende's mouth was bleeding, she couldn't hide anymore and ran out to hug Shi Jingman. "Mom, Dad has amnesia, but he just remembered you."
Shi Jingman felt as if all the strength had been drained from her body. She leaned against Chu Rou, spat out a mouthful of blood, closed her eyes, and fainted.
"Mother!"
"Manman!"
Shen Luo and Qu Jie ran out of the kitchen when they heard the noise.
"Mom!" Shen Luo picked Shi Jingman up in his arms and ran downstairs.
The others also ran out.
...
In the hospital, Shi Jingman lay unconscious on the hospital bed.
Chu Rou held Shi Jingman's hand and silently shed tears.
She knew her mother still had feelings for her father, but she didn't know they were this deep.
If Chu Rou put herself in her mother's shoes, she would understand her mother's current feelings. Her father was her mother's first love, her mother's first lover, and they should have grown old together.
Chu Rou couldn't believe that Mo Chi had reappeared in front of her after disappearing for many years; she might beat him even more severely.
What if Mo Chi had other women and children around him? Chu Rou shook her head; she even felt like killing someone.
Chu Rou was glad she hadn't brought Qi Feiyao along, otherwise her mother would have been even more traumatized.
Qi Wende had already put on a mask to cover his swollen face. He stood in front of the hospital bed, looking at Shi Jingman quietly, his eyes full of guilt.
Shen Luo sat on the sofa in the ward with a sullen face, while Qu Jie held his hand tightly the whole time.
The door to the ward was suddenly pushed open, and Shen Minghui walked in hurriedly, his forehead covered with fine beads of sweat and his breathing slightly labored.
His eyes were only on Shi Jingman on the hospital bed. He didn't notice that there was anyone else around. He walked over quickly, touched Shi Jingman's pale face, and whispered, "Wife!"
"Rou Rou, why did your mother vomit blood?" Shen Minghui looked at Chu Rou, whose face was covered in tears.
“Uncle Shen…” Chu Rou bit her lower lip, “I’m sorry, because… Mom saw my dad.”
"What?" Shen Minghui's pupils contracted slightly, and he asked again in horror, "Rou Rou, what did you just say?"
Chu Rou turned her gaze to Qi Wende, who was standing next to her, and murmured, "My father is not dead. He came to see my mother."
Shen Minghui followed Chu Rou's gaze and noticed a strange man standing in the ward—a strange masked man.
"Are you Chu Weize?"
Qi Wende gave a faint "hmm".
The two men sized each other up.
Shen Minghui was a few centimeters shorter than Qi Wende, and not as muscular.
They also differed in temperament; Shen Minghui was gentle and refined, while Qi Wende was cold and aloof.
Shen Minghui appeared calm on the surface, but inside he was in turmoil. He was worried and afraid that this man who had been missing for many years would disrupt their peaceful life.
He knew that Shi Jingman had always had feelings for this man, but he didn't want to fight with a dead man for anything.
But what's going on now? This man is still alive. Is he here to get back together with Shi Jingman?
The ward was unusually quiet. Chu Rou and the others were all staring at the two male elders, afraid that they would make a move at any moment.
Finally, Qi Wende broke the awkward silence, saying in a deep voice, "My name is now Qi Wende, and I am the father of Qi Hang and Qi Lin."
Shen Minghui raised an eyebrow. "You got married again?"
"Yes, I have amnesia. I have forgotten everything and everyone from before."
Shen Minghui knew that Qi Wende had a family, and his heart, which had been in his throat, had just been put at ease. But when he heard that Qi Wende had forgotten Shi Jingman because of amnesia, his heart jumped again.
Having served as a high-ranking government official for many years, Shen Minghui had long since developed the ability to remain calm and seek the essence of events. He tentatively asked, "You came to see Manman to tell her that you are not dead?"
"I need to give Manman an explanation."
After Qi Wende finished speaking, he looked at Shi Jingman on the hospital bed and noticed that her eyelids were twitching.
He briefly recounted what happened after he woke up, up to his reunion with Chu Rou, omitting the part about Chu Rou's injury.
When Chu Rou mentioned Old Mrs. Chu and Chu Mingjie, she felt Shi Jingman's hand suddenly tighten, and then she realized that her mother was pretending to be asleep.
Her father probably already found out, which is why he talked so much; it turns out he was telling it to her mother.
Chu Rou didn't want to expose Shi Jingman, so she rubbed her mother's hand against her face and kissed it before putting it down.
After Qi Wende finished speaking, he stared at Shi Jingman, but she showed no sign of waking up.
Shen Minghui also glanced back at his wife, and seemed to see tears welling up in her eyes, which Chu Rou quickly wiped away.
Chu Rou put Shi Jingman's hand under the blanket and stood up.
"Uncle Chen, why don't you stay with Mom tonight? We'll come see her again tomorrow."
She looked at Qi Wende and said, "Dad, let's go first and let Mom get some rest. We can talk about these things later."
Qi Wende clenched his fist, stared at Shi Jingman for a few seconds, then nodded and said, "Okay!"
Chu Rou glanced at Shen Luo and Qu Jie sitting inside. Shen Luo had her head down, seemingly lost in thought. Chu Rou could only give Qu Jie a look, signaling Qu Jie to take Shen Luo away.
Qu Jie nodded slightly, trying to help Shen Luo up, "Shen Luo, let's go back too."
Shen Luo didn't move, and said in a muffled voice, "No, I want to stay and take care of my mother."
Qu Jie frowned. This was the first time Shen Luo had disobeyed her. It wasn't a suitable place for her to scold him, so she could only patiently coax him softly in his ear.
Shen Luo looked up at Qu Jie and asked, "You're not lying to me?"
Qu Jie didn't know which question he was asking, but she nodded, "I'm not lying to you, I'm telling the truth."
Shen Luo obediently stood up, took Qu Jie's hand, walked to the bedside, glanced at Shi Jingman, and then said to Shen Minghui, "Dad, can you manage by yourself?"
Shen Minghui patted Shen Luo on the shoulder, "Okay, go back with Xiao Jie. Dad wants to spend some time alone with your mom."
Chu Rou and the others had all left, leaving only Shen Minghui in the ward.
He sat by the hospital bed, wiped away the tears from Shi Jingman's eyes with the back of his hand, and said softly, "Wife, everyone's gone. You can open your eyes now."
Shi Jingman opened her eyes and saw Shen Minghui. Overwhelmed with grievances, she sat up, threw herself into Shen Minghui's arms, and burst into tears, "Husband!"
