Chapter 229 My mother doesn't need it anymore.
Chu Rou chuckled on the other side, but after being glared at by Mo Chi, she immediately covered her mouth, suppressed her smile, and blinked her innocent big eyes at Mo Chi.
Mo Chi pressed the tip of his tongue against his cheek, thinking about how to retort.
A loud crash came from the kitchen, followed by the sound of something breaking. Chu Rou and the other two rushed over to check.
"Aunt Zhuang!" Qi Hang stepped forward first, trying to help the person who had fallen to the ground up.
Aunt Zhuang's face turned ashen, large beads of sweat dripped from her forehead, and she pressed her hands tightly against her upper abdomen. "I'm sorry, I broke the bowl."
"Aunt Zhuang, what's wrong? Is your stomach hurting?" Chu Rou squatted down and asked worriedly.
Aunt Zhuang was in so much pain that she felt weak all over. She tried to struggle to get up, but fell back down. Qi Hang helped her up.
"My stomach pain is an old problem, it will get better after a while."
"Let's take you to the hospital to get checked out!" Chu Rou saw that Aunt Zhuang was in a lot of pain and was afraid that delaying her treatment would worsen her condition.
Aunt Zhuang wanted to refuse, but Qi Hang had already picked her up. "Mo Chi, go and have someone bring the car over."
Mo Chi felt very uncomfortable being arranged by his brother-in-law, but since it was urgent, he didn't argue with Qi Hang. He called his bodyguard and asked him to bring the car to the door.
The three of them took Aunt Zhuang to the hospital. After a series of examinations, the doctor, with a serious expression, asked, "Are you the patient's family members?"
Chu Rou shook her head, "No, we're not. What illness does Aunt Zhuang have?"
"The situation is not good. I suspect there is a problem with the pancreas. You'd better call the patient's family members," the doctor advised.
The doctor's words were somewhat cryptic, but Chu Rou and the other two understood that this was indeed not something they could decide; they could only contact Aunt Zhuang's family.
Aunt Zhuang was employed by the Qi family. Qi Hang called his assistant and asked him to contact Aunt Zhuang's family.
Aunt Zhuang has been admitted to the hospital and is staying in the best single room.
Chu Rou and the other two sat on the sofa in the ward, waiting for Aunt Zhuang's family to arrive.
The ward door was suddenly pushed open, and Zhuang Ling rushed in, panting. Seeing Aunt Zhuang on the hospital bed, she exclaimed, "Mom!"
"Zhuang Ling," Chu Rou looked at the person who ran in with some surprise, "How come it's you? Are you Aunt Zhuang's daughter?"
Zhuang Ling then noticed the three people on the sofa. She was also shocked. "Assistant Chu, President Chi? What are you doing here?"
"Young Master Qi, what happened to my mother?" Zhuang Ling had met Qi Hang once and recognized him. She was now most eager to know what had happened to her mother.
Chu Rou stood up and took a few steps forward. "Zhuang Ling, Aunt Zhuang just fell asleep. Let's go outside to talk!"
Zhuang Ling nodded and followed Chu Rou and the others out of the ward, standing in the corridor.
“Zhuang Ling, Aunt Zhuang helps out at my villa. She suddenly had a stomachache and fell down today, so we brought her to the hospital.”
Chu Rou first explained what had happened, then her expression turned serious. "Tonight, we only had a simple check-up. The doctor suspects that Aunt Zhuang has a problem with her pancreas, and the situation is not good. You should be prepared."
“However, the doctor is also suspicious. We need to do a thorough examination tomorrow to know the results,” Chu Rou patted Zhuang Ling’s shoulder. “You can stay at the hospital with Aunt Zhuang these days. I’ll help you ask for leave from the company. I’ll reserve an internship spot for you.”
Zhuang Ling's mind was buzzing and blank. After listening to Chu Rou's words, she simply nodded mechanically, "Thank you, Assistant Chu."
Chu Rou hugged Zhuang Ling again, "Then we'll be going now. Call me anytime if you need any help."
Zhuang Ling was still in shock, standing there like a wooden stake.
Qi Hang took two steps, then stopped and turned to Zhuang Ling, saying, "You don't need to worry about Aunt Zhuang's medical expenses. We will cover them. She has worked for our Qi family for ten years, so this is a benefit for her."
Zhuang Ling raised her head, tears welling up in her eyes, and bowed to Qi Hang, "Thank you, Young Master Qi!"
Qi Hang nodded slightly and quickly caught up with Chu Rou and Mo Chi.
Back at the villa, Chu Rou saw the broken pieces of porcelain still in the kitchen and sighed, "Aunt Zhuang was such a good person, how could she have gotten such a disease!"
Although Chu Rou hadn't spent much time with Aunt Zhuang, Aunt Zhuang managed the villa very well and spoke and acted with great propriety, which made Chu Rou very fond of her.
Mo Chi comforted him, "The doctor only suspects it. We'll have to see the test results tomorrow. What if it's just a common inflammation?"
"I hope so!" Chu Rou sighed, then said, "I never expected that Zhuang Ling is Aunt Zhuang's daughter, and that she actually took her mother's surname."
“Aunt Zhuang is a single mother,” Qi Hang explained from the side. “I remember that when Aunt Zhuang first came here, she brought her daughter with her. She said that as long as she could take care of their food and lodging, she didn’t need a salary.”
“When her daughter gets a little older, she will rent a place to live on her own, and she will go home to see her daughter once a week.”
"So that's how it is," Chu Rou said with a touch of sadness. It's really not easy for a single mother to raise a child. Her mother was lucky to have met Uncle Shen, but Aunt Zhuang's fate was not so good. "Then let's help her if we can!"
Two days later, Chu Rou received news from Aunt Zhuang that it had been confirmed that she had late-stage pancreatic cancer and that surgery was no longer necessary.
Chu Rou couldn't help but shed a few tears as she ran to the hospital to see Aunt Zhuang.
She gently pushed open the door to the ward. Zhuang Ling wasn't there; Aunt Zhuang lay lifelessly on the hospital bed.
After not seeing her for two days, Aunt Zhuang seemed to have lost all her energy, staring blankly at the ceiling.
"Aunt Zhuang," Chu Rou called softly, placing the fruit basket on the table, "Isn't Zhuang Ling here?"
Aunt Zhuang heard someone call her and turned around to see Chu Rou. Her eyes slowly brightened, and she tried to smile, but there was no smile on her face. "Miss, what brings you here?"
"I came to see you." Chu Rou sat down by the bed.
"I'm sorry for causing you trouble," Aunt Zhuang said apologetically.
Chu Rou's nose tingled with emotion. She held Aunt Zhuang's hand and said, "We drank all the sweet soup you made. Not a drop was wasted. Get well soon. I want you to make soup for me every day when you get back. I don't mind troubling you at all."
Aunt Zhuang's eyes finally lit up with a smile. "I'm glad you like it. I was worried about wasting the ingredients in that pot, since they're all quite expensive."
Zhuang Ling returned from outside, carrying a thermos. She paused for a moment when she saw Chu Rou, then smiled and said, "Assistant Chu, you're here!"
Chu Rou smiled and chatted with them for a while. Afraid of disturbing Aunt Zhuang's rest, she got up and said, "Aunt Zhuang, you should rest well. I'll come to see you another day."
Zhuang Ling saw Chu Rou to the door of the ward. Chu Rou took out a bank card from her bag. "Zhuang Ling, here is 500,000 yuan. Take it first. If it's not enough, just ask me for more."
“Assistant Chu, I can’t take your money,” Zhuang Ling pushed the bank card back. “Young Master Qi has already paid the medical expenses.”
Chu Rou stuffed the bank card back into Zhuang Ling's hand, holding back her tears, and said, "Buy whatever Aunt Zhuang likes. This is a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it, or I'll feel bad."
"Thank you, Assistant Chu!" Zhuang Ling said, crying as she expressed her gratitude.
"From now on, call me Sister Chu Rou!" Chu Rou patted Zhuang Ling's head. "Then I'll be going now."
A week later, Zhuang Ling suddenly appeared in Chu Rou's office.
Dressed in all black, she placed the bank card in front of Chu Rou and said, "Sister Chu Rou, here's your bank card back. I didn't touch the money in it; my mother doesn't need it anymore."
