Fu Huaijin looked surprised. He had never heard her speak with such concern before. In the video, her face looked particularly small and delicate, as if she had lost some weight. Her eyes lacked their usual luster, and she looked listless, which made people feel sorry for her.
He couldn't help but reach out to touch her delicate face, only to realize halfway there that they were separated by a phone screen.
"Did you not eat properly?"
These days, her every move has been reported to her by a designated person. Hearing that she hadn't eaten anything all day, seemed listless, and refused to see a doctor, they were worried something might have happened, so they found some time to video call her back to check on her situation.
Su Yuxi took his pillow and hugged it to her chest, propping her face up with her small hand: "I have no appetite, I don't want to eat."
She didn't feel hungry either.
"When are you coming back?" she repeated, gazing at him expectantly.
Fu Huaijin chuckled softly. He quite enjoyed his wife's dependence on him, and his troubled mood immediately improved: "Missed me?"
Su Yuxi's eyes widened slightly. "Do you want to?"
"I think so."
Especially at night, the bed next to me is empty, and every time I stretch out my arms, I accidentally touch the cold blankets, which makes me feel a bit lonely.
Fu Huaijin raised an eyebrow. When they were together before, it would have been incredibly difficult to get this girl to say "I miss you." Now, after only a few days apart, she's already on someone's mind. It seems he has also secured a place in someone's heart.
"Not now. I'll go back in a few days when I have some free time. If you're bored, you can go around and look around. If all else fails, I'll have Wan Qianqian come over and keep you company."
Su Yuxi shook her head: "Forget it, Qianqian has her own life too. What's with her following me around all day?"
Before, wherever she went, Qianqian followed. Once, she overheard that the girl wanted to go out and have fun, but because she had to accompany her, she had to suppress all her thoughts. Others also have to live their lives, and she couldn't keep them tied to her.
Fu Huaijin hadn't really thought about that: "Then should I have someone take you out to play?"
Su Yuxi continued to shake her head: "There's nothing fun here."
She couldn't speak the language here, and over the past few days she had traveled to most of the towns with her bodyguards. After confirming that she really couldn't find any trace of Ah Zu, she gave up the search.
Perhaps the person had already left, or perhaps she really misjudged.
It doesn't matter anymore.
In addition to her recent emotional ups and downs, she is now experiencing acclimatization issues and feels uncomfortable all over her body.
She just wanted someone to hug her and talk to her; she didn't know why she was being so sentimental.
Even through the screen, Fu Huaijin could sense her low spirits. Usually, she seemed carefree and easygoing, but she was capable of venturing out of the sea and crossing mountains on her own, showing that her mental maturity was far beyond that of ordinary people.
I never expected her to have such a vulnerable side.
But I really can't get back now.
"Sweetie, wait a few more days. Once I'm done with things here, I'll go back and spend some time with you, okay?" As he spoke, he picked up another phone and transferred some money to her.
Su Yuxi looked at the large sum of money that had been deposited into her account, but her eyes showed no emotion whatsoever; instead, she felt a little irritated.
"Where are you? I'll come find you." She didn't understand what this man meant by bringing her here. She thought he would accompany her on her travels all over the country, but why didn't he take her here? Why did he leave her here all day? Was that meaningful?
"No need, this place isn't suitable for you. Listen to me." Fu Huaijin transferred another sum of money to her, trying to soothe her troubled mind.
The notification of the deposit that Su Yuxi saw was particularly irritating. She did like money, but for some reason, an inexplicable fire welled up in her heart. Her heart was beating faster for no reason, and there were other emotions in her eyes, but it was anger.
She pulled the pillow from her arms, threw it on the ground with a thud, and shouted at the person in the video: "I don't want money, don't transfer money to me all the time, I don't want to be obedient, I want to see you, if I can't see you, send me back to my country, I don't want to be here, I want to leave, I want to get out."
Su Yuxi's sudden barrage of anger left Fu Huaijin somewhat bewildered.
Su Yuxi rarely loses her temper. Even when she is angry, she just hums and ignores him. Usually, if he gives her a gift, some money, and says a few nice words, she can calm down. The last time she was angry, she never acted like this.
Fu Huaijin looked helpless, wanting to comfort him but not knowing what to say: "I can't go back now."
"Then send me back to my country."
"no."
Su Yuxi felt like she was going crazy. Her frustration and dissatisfaction had nowhere to go. The outline of the screen became blurry. Her lips trembled slightly. She wanted to continue venting, but reason told her that she couldn't talk to him anymore. Otherwise, the hurtful words would be impossible to take back.
"I don't want to hear it, I won't listen to you."
She hung up the video call immediately after saying that.
The room fell silent again. Su Yuxi felt as if all her strength had been drained away. She collapsed limply onto the bed, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. Her phone kept vibrating, but she seemed oblivious to it, as if she had lost all feeling for it.
Once she calmed down, she realized just how unreasonable her behavior had been.
Su Yuxi rubbed her hair in frustration, wondering what had just happened to her. She opened her phone to apologize to the person on the other end, only to find the screen filled with Fu Huaijin's concerned and apologetic words, as well as some transfer notifications.
Su Yuxi glanced at it, but lost patience and replied with two words, "It's okay." She then tossed her phone aside, got out of bed, and barefoot, picked up the pillow she had thrown away. She hugged it to her chest, buried her head in it, and only by smelling the man's familiar scent could she suppress the emotions that were about to erupt again.
The night was as still as water, with the moonlight sparingly casting a few strands of silver light.
Su Yuxi lay on the bed, half asleep. A fragrance wafted over, and she, who was originally a light sleeper, instantly fell into a deep sleep. Only her brows were still tightly furrowed, as if she was really in pain.
The curtains on the balcony fluttered gently, and a dark shadow, like a ghost in the night, quietly approached the bedside.
A gentle breeze blew in, lifting a corner of his robe. He slowly crouched down, his movements extremely light, as if afraid of disturbing the sleeping child.
The man reached out and took the wrist off the blanket. His slender, pale fingers paused slightly as they touched the skin, then casually put his hand back under the blanket.
He tucked the blanket around her, slowly stood up, and looked at her sleeping face with complicated emotions. Finally, he sighed as if he had given in, took out a bottle from his body, poured out a pill, bent down, gently pried open her mouth, and put the pill into her mouth.
The pill melted instantly in her mouth, and its effects quickly took hold.
Su Yuxi's furrowed brows completely relaxed after taking the pill.
She let out a soft moan of pleasure and rubbed affectionately against the hand resting on her cheek.
The man above smiled slightly, raised his index finger and tapped the tip of his nose, then whispered affectionately, "Little girl."
