Chapter 126 Assassination at the Awards Ceremony
Those who have survived the hail of bullets on the battlefield have always had a keen sense of smell and reconnaissance.
"You don't sound like you just woke up. Are you having night blindness?"
Lu Zhenyu: "The hotel was undergoing power outage repairs. I got up to get a drink of water and was accidentally ambushed by a vase."
Just as he lay down on the bed, Feng Jinzhou sat up again. "Are you injured? Where are Yaya and the others?"
“They were all asleep long ago,” Lu Zhenyu explained. “I wasn’t injured. Fortunately, my neighbors are very kind; they’re all here with me.”
She felt a little relieved. "Where are you planning to go after the awards season ends? Man Ya complained to me that you moved to see penguins and aren't coming back for her wedding."
Lu Zhenyu chuckled, "She's naive and easy to fool, and you're naive too."
Feng Jinzhou raised an eyebrow, and he immediately suspected something was amiss. A smile crept into his sharp, bright eyes. "When are you planning to come back? I was thinking that if you weren't coming back, I would visit you in a while."
She casually placed a cushion under her arms and leaned back comfortably on the sofa. "After the awards ceremony, you won't have to bother anymore. I'll go back to see you guys and check on your recent progress."
The two chatted and laughed for a while, completely ignoring the group of people standing around them.
Lu Zhenyu couldn't see it, but Wang Kai could see it clearly.
He glanced at the fist that was unconsciously pressed against his knee and swallowed hard.
As their lively conversation drew to a close, a voice came from the other end: "By the way, you said your neighbors who were with you were also girls?"
At this point, Lu Zhenyu suddenly remembered that there was someone sitting opposite her.
He quietly straightened up from his relaxed posture on the sofa, "He's a really warm-hearted person..."
"The battery's dead," the man who had been sitting quietly opposite me said.
She checked her phone; there was no response. She put it back on the sofa.
"Sorry it took a little longer to type."
"Boy friend?"
The question was too direct and slightly offensive, which Lu Zhenyu disliked.
She dislikes being interrogated rudely.
"Honey, my child is already eight years old."
Shen Jingsi: "..."
Just then, Wang Lin was secretly drinking mineral water at the door when he spat it out, coughing until tears streamed down his face.
"Yes, I'm sorry, Ms. Shen Huifu... Ms. Lu, I lost my composure."
Her unadorned brows furrowed slightly for a moment in the darkness.
After a moment, Lu Zhenyu smiled and said, "It's only natural, it's nothing."
No one responded, and the living room fell silent.
It was so quiet you could hear your heartbeat, a rather turbulent one.
Lu Zhenyu reached out and touched it; it wasn't hers.
"Mr. Shen, are you feeling unwell with your heart?"
With a face as silent as the darkness, Shen Jingsi said, "Assistant Wang, be quiet."
Wang Kai: "..."
Silently clutching her heart, she thought, "You damn thing, stop beating."
"..." Lu Zhenyu chuckled, "Assistant Wang is really humorous."
After sitting for a while, Lu Zhenyu got up.
"I'm a little sleepy. Thank you for your help tonight, sir. You should go back and get some rest too."
In a blurry blur, she reached out her hand tentatively to move forward, and the next second she was picked up and carried around the waist.
This time, the man didn't even ask for permission before carrying her back to the bedroom.
"Lock the door from the inside. I'm in the living room. Call me if you need anything."
Lu Zhenyu, whose mind had just started to process what was happening, was a little confused. "Isn't this a bad idea? It's too much trouble for you, after all, we're not... close."
The other person was clearly silent for two seconds before saying, "Otherwise, if you keep making noise, I won't be able to sleep either."
Seeing the girl standing there dumbfounded, he added, "Don't worry, you're far less attractive than my wife. I'm not interested in you."
"..."
The bedroom door was closed, and Lu Zhenyu was still sitting there, stunned.
Not interested?
Poor looks?
His lips fell into a deep frown in the darkness.
…
There was no sound of the door being locked behind me. Moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating the upright silhouette of the sofa.
Wang Kai returned from outside. "Boss, take your medicine and rest here. I'll have someone keep watch outside."
Shen Jingsi took the medicine bottle, unscrewed it, poured a few pills into his mouth, and swallowed them without even drinking water.
"Go back now."
Looking at the person a few more times, I couldn't help but think of that phone call.
Wang Kai was aware of Lu Zhenyu and Feng Jinzhou's movements over the past few years, but when he thought about the woman's relaxed and happy state during their phone call and then looked at his boss's sad and dejected state, he sighed silently and quietly left.
…
Lu Zhenyu didn't lock the bedroom door and didn't remember when she fell asleep.
She didn't need to attend the awards ceremony, so she got up late the next day.
The awards ceremony and the red carpet were separate events, and she had just come down from the ropes by then.
I watched the official live stream while changing my clothes.
Finally, it was time for the Best Work Award in Literature. As the presenter read out the words "Zhen Si," Yaya, dressed in a black and gold gown, walked onto the stage.
"I am very grateful to the organizers for awarding this prize to 'Her' and Zhen Si. Their journey has been incredibly difficult, but thankfully, fate has been kind to the people. Zhen Si asked me to convey a message to all the friends who support and love 'Her'."
"No one can bind us, as long as you have a soul. Finally, I want to say, though the mountains are high and the roads are long, we'll meet again in the future..."
"Bang!"
"Bang bang bang!"
Lu Zhenyu paused in her act of bending down to put on her shoes, and then several gunshots rang out from the live stream. She immediately picked up her phone.
The live stream was interrupted, leaving only a screen full of question marks.
"Was that a gunshot? I wasn't the only one who heard it, was I?"
"I heard gunshots too!"
"I heard there was an armed killer at the scene."
"Someone's been shot! It looks like an assassination!"
Feeling uneasy, Lu Zhenyu slung her bag over her shoulder and ran outside while dialing Yaya's number.
After calling three times without getting a response, I simply took a taxi to the scene.
When she arrived, the crowd had already been evacuated. She asked the security personnel, who said that the injured people had been sent to nearby hospitals.
The hospital was so big that Lu Zhenyu's face turned pale from running around.
She wasn't watching the live stream at the time and didn't know if Yaya, who was speaking, had been targeted.
She's the one who tricked them; if something really happens, she deserves to die.
Overwhelmed with guilt, Lu Zhenyu rushed into the dressing room with a pale face...
A person is sitting on the bed eating an ice pop.
Hearing the voice, she turned her head and licked the melted soup a couple of times. When she saw it was Lu Zhenyu, her eyes lit up. "Hey? What are you doing here?"
Lu Zhenyu: "..."
He walked over and looked the person over from left to right. "Not shot? Not injured?"
"The assassin wasn't there to kill me, so why was I shot? But I'm still injured."
Yaya pointed seriously to the ankle where the popsicle was tied, "I twisted my ankle because I ran too fast when the gun went off."
Lu Zhenyu paused, looked at her feet, then at the person licking the popsicle, and suddenly shouted, "Then why didn't you answer the phone? Do you know how scared I was?"
The girl trembled slightly, and her assistant timidly walked over from behind. "Sister Zhen Si, don't be angry. It's my fault. I accidentally turned off the phone."
"..."
Well, thankfully nothing serious happened.
After their ankles were treated, the group prepared to return to the hotel.
As I walked toward the elevator, I heard someone calling from behind.
"Please make way, everyone!"
She led Yaya and the others to the side, where a group of people pushing hospital beds passed by in a dense crowd as the private medical elevator came out.
Lu Zhenyu couldn't see the person lying on the bed clearly, but she unintentionally made eye contact with a man wearing silver-rimmed glasses.
Wang Kai paused for a second, unable to tell whether it was out of guilt or instinct, and immediately turned his head away.
Once outside the elevator, he said to the man on the stretcher, "Boss, I just saw Madam."
Shen Jingsi, who had been shot in the thigh, was deathly pale, his forehead covered in large beads of sweat, his hands clenched tightly, and he didn't utter a sound.
"Send two people to escort her back."
Wang Kai frowned. "I mean, you really aren't going to tell her?"
A cold glint flashed in his eye, and he shut his mouth. "I understand. I'll send someone right away."
