Chapter 91 The Secret of the Monitoring Room
Su Wanqing whispered to Lu Zhao, "Is there any progress with Xiao Ran?"
Lu Zhao's fingers slid quickly across the tablet, and complex codes jumped on the screen.
"He found a monitoring system sub-terminal located in the warehouse responsible for logistics supply in the quarantine area. He said that by analyzing the monitoring logs there, he might be able to find some hidden key information."
"Contact him immediately and ask him to start analyzing." Su Wanqing said decisively.
"The message has been sent." Lu Zhao replied.
A few minutes later, Xiao Ran's voice came through the communicator, sounding a little tired.
"Su Wanqing, I have access to the sub-terminal. There are a lot of log files and I am screening them. In order to conceal their tracks, these people have encrypted the important files in different levels, so it is not easy to decipher them."
"As soon as possible, time is tight." Su Wanqing said.
Su Wanqing turned to look at Professor Yang. The elderly biologist seemed very uneasy at the moment.
"Professor Yang, what about you? Have you found anything?"
Professor Yang pushed his glasses up on his nose, his voice trembling a little: "I... I tried to crack the access code of the monitoring room, and it was initially successful. This monitoring room is the core of all monitoring systems in the quarantine area, and it records data from the past few months. It's just that the access rights are limited, and I can't open some important files."
"Open all the records about virus mutation and data of experimental subjects that you can open, and give me a copy." Su Wanqing said.
"Yes, yes." Professor Yang was operating the computer in a hurry.
Su Wanqing took a deep breath and walked to the door of the monitoring room. This heavy metal door was equipped with an electronic lock, which had now been cracked by Lu Zhao.
She grasped the door handle and hesitated. This room might hide the truth they had been looking for, or it might be filled with darker secrets.
Lu Zhao said behind her: "I have set up a backdoor in the firewall. If the alarm sounds, it can buy some time for evacuation."
Su Wanqing nodded and pushed open the door.
The interior of the monitoring room was more spacious than she had imagined. The walls were covered with huge display screens, on which various data and images were scrolling.
In the empty room, there were only a few rows of tables and chairs, and a number of running computers.
Professor Yang was already sitting in front of one of the computers, browsing through the documents quickly.
He suddenly stopped and his face turned pale. "Su Wanqing, come and take a look at this!"
Su Wanqing walked over to Professor Yang and saw a video playing on the screen.
The video shows the scene inside the quarantine zone laboratory a few days before the rainstorm began.
Several people in white lab coats were analyzing the data on the screen, which displayed a trajectory graph of the experimental subject's activities.
"What...what are they doing?" Su Wanqing asked.
"Look here." Professor Yang pointed to a location on the screen, which showed the distribution of infected bodies in various areas of the quarantine zone.
Su Wanqing observed carefully and suddenly realized something was wrong.
"The distribution of these infected bodies... is not random, but is controlled by humans."
"That's right," Professor Yang said. "I noticed that these personnel regularly adjusted the distribution of the infected bodies, as if to guide them to specific areas."
"Guide?" Su Wanqing frowned. "Why do they want to guide the infected?"
"I don't know." Professor Yang shook his head. "Perhaps it is to observe the spread of the infected body? Perhaps it is to create greater chaos?"
Suddenly, Lu Zhao's voice rang out in the communicator. "Su Wanqing, I found a new file, which is a simulation program for a virus diffusion model.
There’s something strange about this program…it seems to be deliberately trying to expand the reach of the virus rather than control it.”
Su Wanqing felt a chill in her heart. "Deliberate expansion? What do they want to do?"
"I speculate that they may be trying to create an uncontrollable ecosystem, a world completely controlled by the virus," said Lu Zhao.
Su Wanqing looked at Professor Yang in disbelief and asked, "Professor Yang, do you think Lu Zhao's speculation makes sense?"
Professor Yang nodded palely. "From the data, it seems that they are indeed conducting some large-scale experiments.
They seem to think that the answer to the human dilemma can only be found through radical destruction and reconstruction.”
"Mad man!" Su Wanqing cursed in a low voice.
"We must take these evidences away." Su Wanqing said.
"Lu Zhao, copy the monitoring log. Professor Yang, copy the virus diffusion model."
"Yes." Lu Zhao and Professor Yang answered at the same time.
Time was running out, so they acted quickly. Lu Zhao began to copy the surveillance logs, while Professor Yang downloaded the virus diffusion model to the storage device he carried with him.
Just when they were about to complete the copy, suddenly, an alarm sounded throughout the quarantine area.
"Oh no, we've been discovered!" Lu Zhao exclaimed.
"Data copying is complete, but the amount of data is too large and decoding takes time. We must evacuate!" said Professor Yang.
At this moment, a voice suddenly came out of Lin Che's mouth, and the voice was still so cold and rational.
"Don't panic, I have activated the protection program, which can delay it for a while."
Su Wanqing felt uneasy. The presence of Ye made her feel uneasy.
"Ye, what are you doing?" Su Wanqing asked.
"I'm just protecting us." Night's voice said coldly.
"If you want to live, listen to me."
Just when Su Wanqing wanted to continue asking questions, Lin Che's body suddenly trembled violently.
There was a flash of pain and struggle in his eyes, and his purple hair was scattered messily on his shoulders.
“Don’t… don’t control me… I… I don’t want to…” Lin Che’s voice was weak and hoarse, full of resistance.
Su Wanqing looked at Lin Che in surprise. She had never seen him in such pain.
"Che, what's wrong with you?" Su Wanqing asked.
Lin Che's consciousness seemed to briefly regain control of his body. He suddenly raised his head and stared at Su Wanqing with empty eyes.
"Su Wanqing...save me...Ye...he...he wants to use me..."
Lin Che's words were intermittent and full of pain. He tried to break free from Ye's control, but to no avail.
Ye's voice came out of Lin Che's mouth again, with a hint of warning.
“Lin Che, don’t act rashly, otherwise we will all perish together.”
“What…what do you want to do?” Lin Che asked with a trembling voice.
"I just want to save the world." Night's voice said coldly.
"To achieve this goal, I must use your abilities."
“I…I refuse!” Lin Che shouted angrily.
"You have no choice." Ye's voice was firm.
"Su Wanqing, we must leave here immediately!" Lu Zhao's voice sounded in the communicator.
"The infected are surrounding us!"
"Okay, let's go!" Su Wanqing said gritting her teeth.
She grabbed Lin Che's hand and ran towards the exit.
Lin Che's body was still shaking, his eyes filled with pain and despair.
"Ye, let him go!" Su Wanqing roared.
"I'm just helping him." Ye's voice was calm.
“He has great spiritual strength and can help us find the source of the virus.
This is also a kind of redemption for him.”
Su Wanqing ignored Ye's excuses, she just ran forward desperately.
