Chapter 38 "Feeling sorry for me?"

Chapter 38 "Feeling sorry for me?"

"Where did you come from? This is none of your business!" the man gritted his teeth, glaring fiercely at the young man.

Pei Qi slammed the food box she was holding onto the nurses' station, standing there protecting Guan Yue behind her: "It's wrong of you to hit someone, and I'm going to do something about it."

"So what if I hit him? This heartless hospital, these heartless doctors, I'm going to expose them!" The man was clearly not one to back down; he pulled out his phone and was about to turn on the camera, "Everyone, come and see this heartless hospital! They took our money but didn't perform our surgeries..."

Guan Yue immediately took the young man's hand, stepped forward, and shielded the capybara behind him. His tone was serious and naturally intimidating: "Family member, filming is prohibited in the hospital. We can only call security."

"You're just scared, aren't you? Scared that I'll record it and upload it online. If you're so scared, then don't do these things. My dad hasn't eaten or drunk anything, waiting for surgery, but we've been waiting all day and it's still not our turn..." The man continued to complain, still holding up his phone.

Even the nurses standing nearby couldn't stand it anymore: "The surgeries are done one at a time, and besides, when it was your turn this afternoon, you ate half a steamed bun. We'll have to cancel and do it tomorrow..."

Before the young nurse could finish speaking, another older nurse stopped her, signaling her to stop talking.

The patients and their families in the ward heard the commotion and gathered in twos and threes in front of the door to watch the excitement, but no one dared to step forward to stop this dangerous individual.

Sure enough, the man holding the phone seemed to have been stung by the nurse's words, and became even more agitated, angrily rushing towards the nurse.

"Family member, please calm down." Guan Yue also moved his feet to block the man's way.

The man wore a mask, revealing only his eyes, which stared coldly at the man with ill intentions: "If you have any objections to the surgery arrangements, you can discuss them with us. If you are dissatisfied with us, you can file a complaint."

The man seemed not to listen at all, his ferocious expression becoming increasingly out of control, and he reached out to hit him again: "What are you pretending for!"

Pei Xi couldn't stand it anymore and was about to rush over.

He had seen some news reports about medical disputes, but when it actually happened to him, he still found it hard to believe.

Moreover, the person involved was none other than Dr. Guan.

The person who wanted to hit him was none other than Dr. Guan.

Pei Xi has hardly ever had any major conflicts with anyone in his life. Even if he gets angry, it's never to the point of resorting to violence. He doesn't know how to handle this kind of situation, but he absolutely cannot accept anyone bullying Dr. Guan.

The usually friendly and docile capybara seemed to have donned a suit of hard armor, its eyebrows raised as if ready to fight to the bitter end.

Just then, the hospital's security guards and leaders arrived.

The chaotic scene was brought under control in no time.

Guan Yue was finally able to get away and approached the still somewhat dazed capybara. A warm current melted into his originally cold eyes: "Are you alright?"

The young man was still a bit dazed. He slowly raised his eyes and asked with concern, "I'm definitely alright. Was Dr. Guan injured?"

The man smiled and shook his head: "I'm fine. You go to the duty room and wait for me. I'll be there in a bit."

The surrounding environment remained chaotic. The man was surrounded by security, but he was still agitated. More and more passersby came to join the commotion, their whispers creating a noisy atmosphere.

The little capybara pursed its lips, its eyes filled with worry: "You..."

“I’ll handle it. You go to the duty room first.” As if he was still worried about the capybara, the man added, “Security is here, nothing will happen. Go to the duty room and open the food. I’ll be right there.”

"Alright." Upon hearing this, Pei Qi, though still wanting to stay, obeyed and picked up the food box to leave. "Dr. Guan, please be careful."

Guan Yue: "I know, go quickly."

Pei Xi took the food box, turned around, and walked away. After walking for a while, just before turning the corner, he glanced back again, still feeling uneasy.

The doctor was already standing with the hospital leaders who had arrived and communicating with the troublemaker.

The man's emotions and attitude seemed to have calmed down a bit.

He was relieved and turned back to the duty room.

About twenty or thirty minutes later, the door to the duty room was finally opened.

As soon as the man entered, he pulled off his mask. His eyes were heavy with fatigue, but his tone was still cheerful: "What delicious food have you made?"

"Hmm, I made a tomato and egg soup, and also stir-fried pork with chili peppers and stir-fried lotus root with chili peppers," Pei Qi replied, pursing her lips as she stared at the approaching man, asking with concern, "Are you alright?"

"It's fine, just a bit tiring after a day of surgery." The man said, sitting down in a chair and reaching for the food box. "You can even make stir-fried pork with chili peppers now."

"I learned how to make it from a video, I don't know if it'll taste good or not," Pei Qi replied, her eyes still following the man intently.

Guan Yue: "It looks pretty good."

"Try it." Pei Qi handed over the chopsticks.

Guan Yue: "Mm."

"How is it?" He had just sneaked a bite in the kitchen and made sure it tasted alright before serving it, but he didn't know if it would suit Dr. Guan's taste.

"Not bad." The man chewed and swallowed. "You should learn from me."

Pei Xi: "Hmm, then I'll go back and have Dr. Guan teach me."

Guan Yue: "Never mind."

Pei Xi: "Why?"

Guan Yue: "I don't have much patience. You should just sit and wait for your food."

No patience?

Is that a subtle way of saying he's rather slow-witted?

Although he really doesn't have much talent for cooking.

"If I study hard, I should be easy to teach... I'm not that stupid," the young man whispered to himself, trying to secure a chance.

The man picked up the food container filled with rice: "Is my cooking really that bad?"

"No, of course not." Pei Qi didn't understand why he asked that. "If it tasted so bad, I wouldn't have learned to make it like Dr. Guan."

Guan Yue: "Then just eat what I make, why do you have to make it yourself?"

Pei Xi: "I want to cook for you."

The man's expression faltered slightly, and his hand holding the chopsticks paused: "..."

The capybara rested its chin on its hands and stared straight at him: "Sometimes when you're on duty and I'm off, I'll bring you food."

The man's lips suddenly pressed into a straight line, and a ripple seemed to appear in his eyes, hidden behind his glasses: "Then you can make egg noodles. You're not very good at making them."

This is indeed something he can do, and it's the only thing he can do.

After the man finished speaking, he lowered his eyes, looked at the food in the box, and continued eating.

Judging from the capybara's cooking skills, he estimated that it would take at least two hours to prepare these dishes.

Pei Xi, still resting her chin on her hand, asked with some confusion, "That's too simple. Doesn't Dr. Guan dislike egg noodles?"

He may not like egg noodles, but couldn't you simply save this stupid capybara some effort?

That's incredibly stupid to ask such a question.

"I want to make what you like to eat," the little capybara said, its eyes sparkling.

He already dared not look Pei Xi in the eye.

But it's impossible to close your ears too.

What is this silly capybara up to today?

It made him completely confused.

Guan Yue: "I'll eat first, don't say anything."

Hmm.

Pei Qi pouted her lower lip slightly and obediently closed her mouth.

He remembered that Dr. Guan did not have the habit of "not speaking while eating or sleeping".

But he still respectfully kept his mouth shut and waited until the man finished eating.

Guan Yue's complexion was much better than when he first entered the duty room, so the little capybara cautiously asked again, "How was that matter resolved?"

The man's tone was indifferent: "What can we do? It's just an apology."

"Did he apologize to you?" Pei Qi heard what the nurse had just said, which sounded like the consequences of a patient not following medical advice.

"What are you thinking?" The man smiled, as if he was already used to it. "Of course, we should apologize to him."

“But…” The capybara opened its eyes wide, somewhat unable to understand, “But isn’t this his problem? Didn’t you tell him he couldn’t eat? And didn’t you inform him in advance about the surgery arrangements?”

He had accompanied his aunt to a minor surgery before, and the surgery time and precautions are usually explained in advance.

“We did inform them in advance, and we did preach to them.” The man’s tone remained calm, even with a hint of comfort, as if the capybara was the one who had been treated unfairly, not him. “But we have to apologize for everything; it’s all our fault.”

"Dr. Guan...aren't you angry?" Pei Qi had always thought he had a pretty good temper, but he was a little angry now.

Not just a little.

I'm quite angry.

"He just tried to hit you and that nurse. What if he did? Will he not pursue the matter?" He suddenly recalled those horrific news reports about medical disputes. "Has anyone ever physically assaulted Dr. Guan before?"

“There are even more emotionally unstable cases than this,” Guan Yue replied, noticing the worry welling up in the capybara’s eyes. “It’s alright, this is just an isolated incident; most patients are fine.”

It is precisely because of this large part.

Let him persevere.

Pei Xi's expression turned sour: "When it happens occasionally, it's always Dr. Guan who suffers the injustice."

"It's alright. After all, the doctor-patient relationship is very complicated, and it's easy for patients to become extreme from their perspective." Guan Yue adjusted his glasses, seemingly unconcerned.

But now the little capybara's two furry ears had completely drooped, and it looked very dejected.

"What? You're not a doctor." The man suddenly raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on her.

The capybara, unusually resentful, huffed after hearing his words, "But you're a doctor!"

Guan Yue's gaze flickered, and his eyebrows rose even higher: "Feeling sorry for me?"

"Of course I feel sorry for you," Pei Qi replied without hesitation, her tone very sincere.
