Jiang Zhen stared at his movements, his eyes icy cold on his small face. "Drinking too much alcohol is not good for your health." Jiang Zhen said this and stood up and walked towards the stairwell.
He stood at the bottom of the stairs and shouted above his head, "Sister, eat!"
The girl responded and hesitated for a long time before coming down. Jiang Zhen had already served Jiang Bi the meal. Jiang Bi walked over to her little stool, sat down, picked up the bowl and started eating.
Jiang Zhen glanced at Jiang Bi and saw that her eyes were slightly red. He knew that the girl must have been crying. Jiang Zhen did not ask why she was crying, nor did he comfort her. He picked up a few slices of meat and put them in Jiang Bi's bowl, saying, "Eat more."
Jiang Bi hummed and ate her rice in big mouthfuls.
The adoptive father saw Jiang Zhen pick up most of the meat on the plate with one chopstick and give it to Jiang Bi. He raised an eyebrow and wanted to scold Jiang Zhen. But when he thought that this girl was about to be sent away, he held back.
Just eat, you won’t have many more meals left anyway.
The adoptive father picked at the remaining meat and radish in the bowl, eating and drinking. His glass of wine quickly ran out. After finishing his glass, the adoptive father placed the glass next to Jiang Bi. "Pour another glass of wine for Dad."
Jiang Bi didn't dare to say anything more, so she took the glass and went to pour the wine.
My adoptive father drank three cups in a row, feeling slightly tipsy but still wanting more. However, there was no more food on the table, so he had no choice but to put down his chopsticks and glass.
"Little girl, go wash the dishes. I have something to say to your brother." The adoptive father sent Jiang Bi away with just one sentence.
Jiang Bi was shorter than Jiang Zhen, so she had to stand on a small stool when she boiled water to wash dishes. She was afraid of being burned by the scalding water, so she moved very cautiously.
Jiang Zhen looked at his sister busy in the kitchen, feeling very sad. His sister was so beautiful, she couldn't be sent to be someone else's plaything!
Jiang Zhen looked away and saw his adoptive father pull out a bag of dry tobacco from his pocket. To make this kind of tobacco, one needs to remove the thick veins on the leaves, then roll the soft leaves into a cylinder, insert it into the pipe, light it, and smoke it.
Jiang Zhen reached out and took two rolls of dry cigarettes and said, "Let me help you." Jiang Zhen quickly rolled the cigarettes and handed them to his adoptive father.
The adoptive father took the cigarette and thought about how stubborn the child was in the first few years after he arrived. He was filled with emotion. "You have really grown up."
Jiang Zhen didn't answer, but lowered his head, not knowing what he was thinking in his mind.
The adoptive father took a deep drag on his cigarette, then, with his yellow teeth, exhaled a puff of choking smoke. He shouted, "Aohan!"
Jiang Zhen looked up at him and said, "Dad."
The adoptive father looked as if he was about to speak. He hesitated for a moment before speaking in a deep voice, "There's a family that's taken a fancy to your sister and wants to take her home to live with them for a few years. We'll marry her when she turns sixteen."
Saying he was taking her there to live for a few years was a euphemism. In reality, he was sending Jiang Bi there to be someone else's plaything.
Although he had known about this for a long time, Jiang Zhen still became uncontrollably angry when he heard his adoptive father mention it.
He stood up suddenly and refused forcefully, "I don't agree with this. She's too young." She hasn't even had her period yet. She's not even a girl, she's still a child!
The adoptive father looked up at the thin but upright boy and snorted coldly, "It's not up to you. Keeping a girl at home is a waste of food. If another family likes her, it's her good fortune."
The adoptive father didn't take Jiang Zhen seriously at all. After all, Jiang Zhen was still too young, only ten years old, still a little kid. The adoptive father was just informing Jiang Zhen about this matter.
Jiang Zhen's anger seemed to have subsided a little. He asked, "Whose family has taken a fancy to her?"
"The Ruan family is the richest family in our county."
The Ruan family is very famous in their county.
"But I heard that the young master of that family has married three wives, two of whom were beaten to death, and one died in childbirth. Dad, are you going to send my sister to die?" Any parent who treats their daughter as a human being will not push their daughter into the fire pit of the Ruan family.
Being criticized by Jiang Zhen like this, the adoptive father lost face and immediately frowned, "What nonsense! Those three women are just unlucky. Women who are disobedient deserve to be beaten! Young Master Ruan did nothing wrong! Your sister is well-behaved and obedient, and the Ruan family will treat her well."
The adoptive father knew that Jiang Bi's life would be over if she went to the Ruan family this time. But he couldn't resist the generous conditions offered by the Ruan family. Besides, Jiang Bi was not his biological daughter. Rather than raising a money-losing girl at home, he thought it would be better to send her away for some money.
This is a good deal.
The adoptive father knew that he was selling his daughter for fame and fortune, but he refused to admit it.
Jiang Zhen knew his adoptive father had made his decision, and no matter how much he resisted, he couldn't change his father's mind. Jiang Zhen picked up his schoolbag from the stool and rushed upstairs.
"What are you doing!" roared the adoptive father.
"Do homework!" Jiang Zhen rushed back to the room with his bag.
After a while, Jiang Bi came upstairs.
She walked into her brother's room cautiously and was a little scared when she saw her brother lying on the bed with a book covering his face.
Jiang Bi stood by the bed, staring at her brother for a long time before she whispered, "Brother, you have good grades and will definitely go to college in the future. If you make it big, don't ever come back."
This place will eat people.
Jiang Zhen took the book off his face and glanced at his sister with a neutral look. He sat up cross-legged and extended his hand to Jiang Bi. Jiang Bi was flattered and shook her brother's hand. She heard her brother ask, "Are you willing to go to the Ruan family?"
Jiang Bi bit her lips tightly with her teeth, kept her head down and said nothing.
