Chapter 13 The Deeply Thoughtful Huo Zhizhou

"You must have seen the news about wealthy people finding their children again." Huo Zhizhou prioritized profit above all else. "Which child in those news stories wasn't overjoyed to find out they had a rich father?"

Mr. and Mrs. Huo paused for a moment.

Clearly, they hadn't considered this aspect.

“When he grows up, he will know what the right choice is.” Huo Zhizhou said as if it were business. “Besides, I will be there for him from childhood and will not miss his important days.”

“But Sui Sui doesn’t seem like that kind of person.” Thinking of her well-behaved and sensible child who never coveted benefits or compared himself with others, Mrs. Huo felt a little uncertain. “What if he’s not the person you imagine?”

"I will be there for him as he grows up," Huo Zhizhou emphasized.

"Don't go to her about the child anymore." Huo Zhizhou didn't like them interfering in his affairs. "The more you get involved, the more likely Sui Sui will resent you. Just treat her normally as before."

At this moment, Jiang Ruan finally understood why Huo Zhizhou hadn't fought her for custody.

He finally understood why everyone said he was cunning and ruthless.

She had to admit that some of what he said earlier was impeccable. As long as he visited Sui Sui occasionally, spent time with her on important occasions such as her birthday and holidays, and bought her gifts, he would still be a good father in Sui Sui's eyes.

As for his infidelity, it was only she who was hurt.

He still loves Sui Sui.

So whether the child stays with him or not is not important to him.

"What if she doesn't let us see the child?" Mrs. Huo thought about Jiang Ruan's attitude just now.

“I am the child’s father, and I have the right to visit her.” Huo Zhizhou’s words were calm, yet carried a threat. “If she refuses, I can make her lose everything.”

Jiang Ruan's red lips pressed into a straight line, her heart growing colder and colder.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

The light you see when you fall into the mud may not be salvation; it could also be a sharp blade piercing through the air.

"Understood." Mr. Huo's voice was deep, indicating his approval.

Huo Zhizhou didn't say anything more and hung up the phone.

The living room was completely silent.

“If it weren’t for Zhizhou pleading for you, you wouldn’t have been allowed to raise this child.” Mother Huo stood up, not intending to stay any longer. “A woman like you, who only thinks about marrying into a wealthy family all day long, could raise Sui Sui very well.”

As he left, Mr. Huo glanced at Jiang Ruan, his tone commanding: "If anything happens to Sui Sui while she's with you, I'll hold you responsible."

Jiang Ruan ignored this.

She didn't know how she got upstairs, but before she knew it, she was in Sui Sui's little study. Looking at the photo of the three of them on his desk, she couldn't help but think of the times the three of them played together.

At that moment, she suddenly felt a pang of self-reproach.

She made the decision for him without even asking Sui Sui's opinion.

"Mommy." A childish voice suddenly rang out.

Jiang Ruan looked over at the sound and saw Sui Sui standing outside the door. Before she could speak, Sui Sui walked towards her with her short legs and reached out her little hands to hug her.

She pretended nothing was wrong and asked him, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing, I just wanted to hug you." Sui Sui's voice was soft, and her words were especially heartwarming. "I wanted you to know that you are the person I care about most in this world."

He knew everything that happened in the living room through the surveillance cameras.

Seeing his grandparents' aggressive behavior towards his mother and hearing his father's coldness towards her, he realized that his mother had suffered so much for him.

Jiang Ruan was taken aback.

I don't understand why he would suddenly say these things.

Did someone say anything to you?

“Nobody told me.” Sui Sui shook her head and told her mother the truth under her mother’s worried gaze, “I just accidentally overheard your conversation in the living room.”
