Chapter 24 Chunyu Han cannot die!
"An assassin?!?!"
Yu Nian's first reaction was to protect her head and crouch down to crawl under the stone table.
As soon as Yu Nian went inside, a dense rain of arrows came from all directions.
The enemy, hidden in the darkness, was well-trained and prepared.
Chunyu Han was no pushover either; his guards quickly arrived to support him, but the other side proved to be a formidable opponent.
Suddenly, one of Chunyu Han's guards flipped his wrist, revealing a sharp dagger, and stabbed it towards Chunyu Han's back.
Yu Nian, hiding under the table, saw clearly that this person was after Chunyu Han, and Yu Nian's heart skipped a beat.
Chunyu Han can't die!
Chunyu Han is Yu Nian's lifeline. If Chunyu Han dies, then Yu Nian is finished!
Yu Nian thought that since she still had the talisman given to her by the system, which could withstand two fatal blows, it wouldn't be a big deal if she blocked it for Chunyu Han.
In the blink of an eye, before Yu Nian could even finish thinking, her body had already moved.
"Be careful, sir!"
While blocking, Yu Nian didn't forget to make a dramatic shout to attract Chunyu Han's attention.
But almost the next second, the sharp tip of the knife pierced her flesh, Yu Nian regretted it...
That fucking hurts!
The dagger pierced Yu Nian's waist. Yu Nian gasped in pain and knelt on the ground.
"you!"
Chunyu Han snapped out of his daze. He sensed a murderous aura behind him. With his skills, even if he couldn't dodge in time, he wouldn't have been seriously injured. But he never expected that Yu Nian would rush up to shield him from the knife!
A cold glint flashed, and the guard holding the dagger was slit in the throat by Chunyu Han. Such a deadly guard would commit suicide immediately if the mission failed, even if Chunyu Han did not make a move.
Yu Nian collapsed into a warm embrace, feeling her consciousness begin to fade. The pain in her waist made it difficult for her to breathe.
"Lord Chunyu..."
Chunyu Han supported Yu Nian's light body, his dark eyes filled with complex emotions.
"In that case, is my sincerity enough...?"
Yu Nian wanted to say something more, but she completely lost consciousness.
Yu Nian's warm blood flowed into Chunyu Han's palm, making his expression even more somber.
"How stupid..."
It's such a scaredy-cat, it hid under the table, why did it come out again?
Chunyu Han picked up Yu Nian and stood in the messy octagonal pavilion. The guards from the Regent's Mansion had already chased after the assassins, and they didn't seem to want to continue fighting.
"Canghai, bring those assassins back alive."
His dark eyes, deeper than the night, held an unprecedented chill, suppressing a storm that could devour everything in an instant.
"Your subordinate obeys."
Canghai sensed his master's anger. There were at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, assassins throughout the year, but Canghai had never seen Chunyu Han so angry before.
Chunyu Han led Yu Nian to the Honeysuckle Pavilion, where a woman dressed in the same dark guard uniform as Canghai was already waiting.
"Cure her."
Chunyu Han placed Yu Nian on the low couch and made her lie face down on it.
"Yes, sir."
Sang Tian nodded and immediately began treating Yu Nian's wounds.
Like Canghai, Sangtian was Chunyu Han's personal bodyguard. However, Sangtian's martial arts skills were slightly inferior to Canghai's, but he was proficient in medicine.
After settling Yu Nian in, Chunyu Han turned and walked out of the Honeysuckle Pavilion.
News came from the Eastern Depot that the pockmarked man who was sent today had died.
With a chilling coldness emanating from his unfathomable black eyes, Chunyu Han mounted his horse and headed towards the Eastern Depot.
The assassins from the Regent's Palace and the agents lurking in the Eastern Depot staged a feint attack.
Very well, it's been a long time since anyone dared to mess with Chunyu Han. He'll make these people pay a bloody price for their wrong decisions.
...
Yu Nian didn't know how long she had been unconscious until she heard the system's clock-in voice in her mind, which brought her back to consciousness.
The first thing Yu Nian did upon regaining consciousness was to curse the system in her mind.
"You old bastard! You liar! Didn't you say this amulet could protect me from injury? I was in so much pain!"
The system's lazy voice sounded, as if it hadn't had enough sleep.
[What's all the fuss about? At my age, if you don't call me Sixth Ancestor, you should at least call me Sixth Master. Always calling me "Old Sixth" is impolite.]
Yu Nian rolled her eyes. Who would have thought you really were the sixth child...
"Besides, who lied to you? The amulet's description says it can block fatal wounds. Do you know that if you had blocked that knife just one centimeter off, it would have pierced your kidney? You're getting away with this! You almost died from the pain, but you're still alive, aren't you?"
Yu Nian was furious; that old bastard had a really sharp tongue.
"What advantage did I gain? I'm practically dead, I'm severely injured now, I can't even open my eyes!"
That's normal. You can't open your eyes because you've been poisoned.
"What? That dagger was poisoned! Damn it!"
I should have known better than to try and be a hero. I'm losing a lot of money. Is the female lead here? Can she come to my rescue?
After cursing, Yu Nian's eyes darted furtively to the small ball of light floating in her mind.
"This can be considered a work injury, so, oh no, Sixth Master, shouldn't you give me some kind of compensation?"
No way.
The system decisively rejected Yu Nian.
Yu Nian pursed her lips, knowing that this sixth brother would have to suffer the consequences of his refusal to listen to reason.
"Have you thought it through? Let me tell you, I've discovered a complaint function in the system. Although it requires at least 800 words to submit, you know that researchers like me are best at writing papers. Let alone 800 words, I can easily submit 80,000 words."
When the complaint was mentioned, the little ball of light trembled. It hadn't expected that Yu Nian would still discover that function, which it had hidden so well.
Although he was just filling in for someone else, the complaint would affect his grandson's performance evaluation. The system coughed twice, indicating that it needed to calm Yu Nian down first.
[Harmony brings wealth; let's talk things out calmly.]
The system softened its tone, and Yu Nian knew she had made the right bet. It had only intended to test the function she had accidentally discovered, but it had unexpectedly proven effective.
"I want benefits, will you give them to me?"
Tell me what you want first.
The system spoke cautiously, indicating that while it could offer something, it had its limits.
"It's that life-extending quest. There's one per day, and it only refreshes after a day. That's so inhumane. I demand that it refresh in real time."
Yu Nian was afraid that if she encountered an absurd mission and her life points ran out, wouldn't she just die suddenly?
"Hmm, this is fine."
The system thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. Inside the small ball of light that Yu Nian couldn't see, the system smiled slyly. It had been a system its whole life and had never been complained about. This record absolutely could not be broken by Yu Nian.
Hmph, you little brat, how dare you threaten your grandfather! Just wait and see how I deal with you...
