Chapter 30: The King's Weakness

Chapter 30: The King's Weakness

Jing Siye led people to patrol the temporary tents. Fearing that the emergency situation of yesterday would happen again, Jing Siye did not allow Zhu Wenqin to enter the tent and ordered him and Qi Feng to guard outside.

After inspecting several tents, there was nothing unusual. It seemed that the two missing people attracted attention, which showed that the force was nearby.

While he was thinking, the sound of fighting was heard outside the tent. Several people rushed out and saw dozens of masked men surrounding Qi Feng and several secret guards.

Not far away, Zhu Wenqin was being held tightly by two masked men, with his arms twisted behind his back. He was about to turn around and walk towards the woods.

Jing Siye's pupils shrank and he shouted:

"stop!"

He tapped the ground with his toes, and his figure instantly appeared in front of Zhu Wenqin like a ghost, blocking the masked man's way.

The two masked men panicked when they saw this. They put knives on Zhu Wenqin's neck and threatened him while pretending to be calm:

"Don't come over here. If you come over here, he will die."

Upon hearing this, Jing Siye raised his lips in an evil arc, but there was no smile in his eyes:

"Even if I don't come, you won't survive."

Just as he finished speaking, the two men groaned, and their abdomens were instantly pierced from behind by the long sword, and bright red blood flowed down the sword.

After falling down, I saw An Yi and An Er holding swords.

Zhu Wenqin was so frightened by the sudden bloody scene that she stood there like a wooden chicken, and the shout that was about to come out of her mouth was choked back.

Jing Siye put away his cold eyes, quickly checked him with both hands, and after confirming that he was not injured, he breathed a sigh of relief, hugged him tightly in his arms, patted his back gently, and said softly:

"Don't be afraid, Qin'er. I'm here. Everything will be fine."

The smell of blood lingered in the air. The battle on the other side had already ended, and corpses were scattered all over the ground.

This brief but fierce confrontation resulted in a crushing defeat for the masked men, with only a few taking advantage of the chaos to escape into the woods.

The remaining few survivors were subdued by the secret guards, but before they could be interrogated, they gritted their teeth, black blood flowed from the corners of their mouths, and they died of the poison.

The atmosphere in the meeting room of the post station was so depressing that it made people feel breathless.

Jing Siye's brows were furrowed, his eyes full of sinisterness beneath his sword-like brows. He paced back and forth in the hall, his footsteps sounding particularly heavy in the silence.

The guards stood upright, with their heads bowed, not saying a word, not daring to breathe.

Chen Lian stood aside with a serious look, her eyes revealing worry and uneasiness.

"These masked men today are obviously coming for Guard Zhu."

Jing Siye finally stopped, his voice low and hoarse, with a bit of suppressed anger,

“But why did they only arrest Guard Zhu? How did they know that Guard Zhu was…” My weak spot.

Although the last few words were not spoken, everyone present knew them clearly in their minds.

They all saw that Jing Siye cared about Zhu Wenqin. If this was used by the enemy, it would undoubtedly be a heavy blow.

Zhu Wenqin just arrived at the camp yesterday, and was targeted today. This makes people suspect that there is a traitor.

Jing Siye's eyes slowly swept over everyone present. These people were brothers who had been through life and death with him and had experienced countless life and death tests together. He trusted them from the bottom of his heart.

But if there wasn't an internal problem, how could the enemy use him as a bargaining chip so quickly?

This fog made him feel a little uneasy. The enemy was in the dark while he was in the light. What he was afraid of was not that he would get hurt, but that something would happen to his little one.

——

In the dead of night when everything was silent, the north wind howled tirelessly.

In the room of the inn, the dim light cast flickering shadows on the walls, adding a bit of warmth to this cold night.

Zhu Wenqin lay in bed, not sleeping well.

His brows were furrowed, as if he was still immersed in the thrilling fight that took place during the day.

Jing Siye sat on the edge of the bed, gazing at him tenderly, his fingers slowly smoothing out the wrinkles.

Perhaps it was because of the gentle touch that Zhu Wenqin moved in her sleep, subconsciously looking for a sense of security.

He turned over, facing Jing Siye, and curled up quietly.

His long, thick eyelashes cast a small shadow on his eyelids, trembling slightly with his breathing.

His face was still a little pale due to the fright during the day, but it did not detract from his handsome features.

Jing Siye locked his eyes on him, unwilling to look away for even a moment.

Although the current situation is not peaceful, Jing Siye's heart is exceptionally calm when he sees the boy sleeping peacefully.

He recalled the determination and stubbornness in the boy's heart, as well as the innocence and kindness that the boy inadvertently revealed during their time together.

He didn't know when this little guy started, but like a seed, he quietly planted himself in his heart, took root, sprouted, and gradually occupied his entire heart.

This feeling is like a ship that has been drifting for a long time finally finding a warm harbor, or like finding a clear spring in the barren desert.

In this world full of dangers, Zhu Wenqin's existence is like a ray of light, illuminating his long and lonely journey.

He secretly swore in his heart that no matter how turbulent the outside world was, no matter how conspiracies and dangers followed him, he would try his best to protect this little guy who had entered his heart.

He would build an impenetrable barrier for him to protect him from all the sufferings of the world.

Jing Siye kissed him on the forehead, then tucked his quilt tightly, turned around and left the bedroom.

When she woke up the next day, Zhu Wenqin found that the bed was empty and there was no sign of Jing Siye.

He subconsciously reached out and touched the place beside him, and it was cold.

He rubbed his head and tried hard to recall what happened last night. There seemed to be no scene in his memory where Jing Siye lay down to rest. Could it be that the prince would only symbolically "take care" of him for one night when he was sick?

Thinking of this, Zhu Wenqin couldn't help feeling a little lost.

Just as I was in a daze, the tent curtain was gently lifted and Qi Feng walked in with a breakfast.

Zhu Wenqin raised her eyes and her gaze fell on the lonely piece of food, which made her even more confused.

"Qi Feng, where is the prince?"

Qi Feng's face didn't look good either. He frowned slightly and looked a little serious:

"Take Guard Xue and Guard Lu out to do some work." His voice was low, as if he was suppressing some emotion.

"You only took the two of them? Where did you go?"

Zhu Wenqin asked, feeling a vague sense of uneasiness in her heart.

"Yotoushan left last night."

Qi Feng's answer was brief and crisp, but every word was like a heavy hammer hitting Zhu Wenqin's heart.

"What? Taro Mountain?"

Zhu Wenqin stood up suddenly.

"Is it the dangerous place that Magistrate Zhai mentioned as containing 'dirty things'?"

The horrified expression on Magistrate Zhai's face when he described it suddenly appeared in his mind, and his heart tightened.

Qi Feng did not answer, but just lowered his head slightly, acquiescing to this fact.
