Chapter 223 Yu Jingchen said I was scared

Nan Zhiyun snapped out of her daze upon hearing Yu Jingchen's laughter, feeling embarrassed once again.

"I'll dry your hair like this every day from now on, and you'll get used to it," Yu Jingchen said as he tidied Nan Zhiyun's hair. Nan Zhiyun touched her hair herself, and it really was dry.

"Alright," Yu Jingchen released Nan Zhiyun.

"Thank you," Nan Zhiyun said naturally.

"What's there to thank me for? It's cold in winter, so you should dry your hair quickly if it gets wet, otherwise you'll easily catch a cold," Yu Jingchen added.

"Your Majesty, I understand." Nan Zhiyun's current situation was somewhat awkward, because... she was just leaning against a towel, wasn't she? Seeing that Yu Jingchen had no intention of leaving, Nan Zhiyun spoke somewhat embarrassedly: "Your Majesty, I need to change my clothes."

“Let’s change it,” Yu Jingchen immediately replied.

Nan Zhiyun: "..."

"I didn't see you like this when we were talking inside or when I carried you out. Why are you embarrassed now?" Yu Jingchen was doing it on purpose.

"Just now... I forgot, and Your Majesty didn't give me a chance to speak..." Nan Zhiyun's voice grew softer and softer.

"So it's still my fault, huh?" Yu Jingchen sat down next to him, very close.

"Your Majesty, I dare not." Nan Zhiyun said the same words, but compared to the past, she no longer had that fearful look in her eyes when she said them again.

Yu Jingchen didn't speak, but reached out and picked up the clothes next to him. Nan Zhiyun blushed a little. Why were these clothes placed here? Besides the undergarments, there were also the close-fitting clothes underneath.

"I'll help you." Yu Jingchen naturally picked up the small garment inside.

"Your Majesty!" Nan Zhiyun finally couldn't hold back and directly pressed down on Yu Jingchen's hand, which was about to be raised.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Yu Jingchen's lips curled up, his tone feigning incomprehension.

"I can do it myself, I can do it myself." As she spoke, Nan Zhiyun tried to take the thing from Yu Jingchen's hand, but Yu Jingchen was stronger and Nan Zhiyun couldn't budge it after grabbing it.

"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun unconsciously shook her hand, somewhat anxious.

Yu Jingchen knew he couldn't tease her too much, so he reluctantly put down what he was holding. Nan Zhiyun put the things inside the blanket. The little girl was so shy.

"Yun'er, you don't need to be so shy in front of me," Yu Jingchen said to Nan Zhiyun.

"No," Nan Zhiyun turned her head away.

"What's wrong? Are you angry?" Yu Jingchen asked, amused, and turned to look at Nan Zhiyun.

"No," Nan Zhiyun said softly. She wasn't angry; she just couldn't do it.

Yu Jingchen didn't say anything else. After a moment of silence, he gently rubbed Nan Zhiyun's head and asked, "Didn't you say you were going to stay up all night tonight? There will be fireworks outside tonight. Do you want to go out and watch them?"

Nan Zhiyun turned her head to look at Yu Jingchen, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded.

"Okay, let's go watch the fireworks in a bit." Yu Jingchen pulled him into his arms.

Nan Zhiyun didn't know why his topic of conversation was jumping around so drastically, nor did she know why he suddenly hugged her like this.

a long time

"Yun'er, don't avoid me, I'll be scared..." Yu Jingchen suddenly spoke, his voice becoming somewhat distant.

Fear? Nan Zhiyun thought there was something wrong with her ears. What could His Majesty be afraid of?

"I'm afraid Yun'er will disappear," Yu Jingchen seemed to be experiencing Nan Zhiyun's inner thoughts.

Nan Zhiyun didn't speak, and didn't know what to say, she just let him hold her.

"Nan Zhiyun, I'm in a bad mood today," Yu Jingchen changed the subject again.

"Today, seeing you, your father, and the Empress Dowager chatting and laughing like a family, I realized that I never had the concept of family before, nor did I care about it. But today, I do care."

"Today at this banquet, I am merely a king. The people here have their own families and their own affiliations, but to everyone else, I am just an outsider."

"The banquet was lively, but that was only because there were many people, because of the celebration, because of the singing and dancing, and also because of the need to maintain appearances. Few people were really interested in the banquet; it was just a show for me."

"They're not doing this to make me happy, they're just afraid I'll be unhappy. Yun'er, there were many moments today when I felt you were so far away from me, but then I felt it was only natural, because I pushed you away myself." Yu Jingchen spoke from the heart.

"I really want to get closer, because only in this way can I convince myself that you are by my side, that we can be okay, and that everything will gradually get better."

“But every time I get close, Yun’er keeps her distance from me. Yun’er, I’ve told you before, I know I was wrong, and I regret it. So please don’t avoid me, don’t hide from me, give me a chance to get close, okay?” This wasn’t the first time Yu Jingchen had spoken to Nan Zhiyun like this.

But Nan Zhiyun did not respond to her.

"Doesn't Yun'er like reading storybooks? How about I tell Yun'er a story today?" Yu Jingchen said.

"Hmm? What does Your Majesty want to say?" Nan Zhiyun asked Yu Jingchen.

Yu Jingchen chuckled softly, pulled her closer to him, and then covered her up tightly with the blanket.

"The male protagonist in the story is the son of a merchant family with a large business. However, he is not the biological child of this family. He was adopted because the family had no other children."

"The female protagonist is a young lady from a wealthy family who is a perfect match for them. She has been pampered and spoiled since childhood and is a true heiress of a prominent family. She and the female protagonist grew up together and are childhood sweethearts. The two families are discussing a marriage alliance, and coincidentally, the female protagonist has long been in love with the male protagonist."

Hearing this, Nan Zhiyun's interest was piqued.

"Your Majesty, they definitely didn't stay together properly, did they?" Nan Zhiyun asked.

"How did Yun'er know?" Yu Jingchen asked her.

“That’s how it’s written in storybooks; they must have gone through a lot of ups and downs,” Nan Zhiyun replied.

“Yes, Yun’er is really smart. They were indeed not so lucky, actually because the female protagonist in the story was too stupid,” Yu Jingchen continued.

Nan Zhiyun was somewhat looking forward to the rest of the story.

"Originally, the male protagonist's family owned the largest business, which was considered the leader in their area. However, his father passed away, so he took over the family business. But at this time, the woman's business gradually surpassed his, and not only that, many people distrusted him because of his young age."

"It was only because of the woman's family background that some people gave her some face, but because of this, the female protagonist began to dislike her and her family. Later, the protagonist went crazy and wanted to surpass the female protagonist's family, and he did succeed."
