How could I have blurted out such a thing?
It was as if I was certain he would come to save me, and I considered him my bodyguard, the person I relied on most.
I held his waist tightly with both arms, buried my face in his hard and reassuring chest, and relied on him wholeheartedly.
An answer is in my heart, about to emerge.
I still love him!
My heart clenched painfully.
However, logically speaking, I was unwilling to admit it; my nose stung even more, and my tears flowed even more profusely.
Fu Yanshen grabbed me and darted behind a wall to avoid the hail of bullets. The air was thick with the pungent smell of gunpowder.
"Where are you hurt?!"
The man gripped my shoulders with both hands, pulling me away from his embrace. He lowered his head, his dark eyes scrutinizing me, and asked in a deep voice.
The streetlights illuminated his cold, handsome face, his brows furrowed tightly.
I lost control of my emotions and kept crying, unable to answer him at all.
"Shut the hell up!" he snapped at me impatiently.
"They're hiding behind the wall! Go and catch them!"
The menacing voice was very close; we had been discovered. I was so nervous that I forgot to cry and held my breath.
Fu Yanshen pulled me into his arms and covered my ear with one hand.
I can still hear the deafening gunshots, and I feel my internal organs trembling.
I turned my head and saw that he was holding a black pistol in his right hand, with his index finger on the trigger.
His pale, handsome face was expressionless. He pursed his sharply defined, thin lips, and his deep black eyes keenly scanned his enemies. Without blinking, he killed one Burmese police officer after another in uniform.
At that moment, he was overflowing with hormones and a sense of security for me.
Just like when he saved me from the kidnappers' guns when I was kidnapped.
My heart was pounding, and I unconsciously swallowed.
"Walk!"
He killed all the pursuers and bowed his head to me.
The man, who was holding me, was about to turn around when he noticed my disheveled appearance and his brow furrowed.
I had just climbed out of the pond, soaking wet, my nightgown clinging to my body, my hair still dripping wet, and my bare feet covered in mud.
Fu Yanshen took off his trench coat and wrapped it around me, then picked me up in his arms.
"Fu Yanshen, I'm not injured." Hearing his thunderous heartbeat, I answered his question with a long delay.
Although I feel pain all over my body, especially in my wrists and ankles.
He didn't say anything.
“It was Shi Xia and that boy under Fu Ren who kidnapped me. How did Shi Xia end up in northern Myanmar?” I asked him again, my voice hoarse.
He still didn't speak. I looked up at him, unable to see his expression, but I could see his thin lips were tightly pressed together and his jaw was clenched.
The surroundings grew darker and darker as he carried me into the narrow alley.
"You, how did you get here?" I couldn't help but ask again.
A few days ago, when I ran into him in Jiangcheng, he ignored me.
I thought we were finished.
But he arrived just in time to save me.
He seems to be all alone, which is so dangerous...
Fu Yanshen lowered his eyes and glared at me. Just as he was about to speak, footsteps suddenly sounded ahead, as if it were the people chasing us!
My heart jumped into my throat again.
He carried me into a narrow, dark alley, put me down, and let me lean against the wall, using his body to shield me.
"Shh!"
In the dim light, he was deftly changing the magazine.
The footsteps grew closer, and he pressed himself against me, covering my mouth with his large hand.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a group of people passing by the alley entrance. If they spotted us now, we would surely die.
I was so scared I didn't dare breathe, my eyes wide open, my hands gripping the hem of his shirt tightly.
"Walk!"
I don't know how much time passed, but he let go of me and pulled me back into the alley. Just as we were about to get out, gunshots rang out behind us.
Fu Yanshen pulled me into his arms, then slipped behind an oil drum and raised his right hand, firing repeatedly.
But the enemy outnumbered him, and he only had one gun, plus I was a burden to him. The enemy was getting closer and closer, and he was running out of bullets.
Fu Yanshen kicked over the oil drum, which rolled toward the enemy. He fired a shot at the oil drum.
"Bang—"
In an instant, flames shot into the sky.
Those people were blocked by the fire and retreated repeatedly. Some went around the fireballs and chased after us.
They caught up with us quickly. A hail of bullets raged across the open ground, where there wasn't even a large tree to hide under. We were in imminent danger of losing our lives.
"Fu Yanshen, what should we do? Where are your bodyguards? Didn't you bring anyone with you?" I asked anxiously.
He glanced at me but didn't say anything.
"Shoot! Kill them all! The sheriff wants to see that woman's body!"
A fierce voice came from not far away.
Fu Yanshen hugged me tightly, acting as my human shield.
"Fu Yanshen!"
I was afraid he would be shot to death.
"Brother Fu!"
Gunshots rang out, and someone called out to him.
I lifted my head from his embrace and saw Fu Yanshen take a gun. In front of him stood a sharp and upright figure. In the dim light, the man had a very short buzz cut.
He held a pistol in both hands and kept firing.
"Brother Fu, get in the car quickly, leave this to us and Brother Ren!" a man next to Fu Yanshen said.
That's when I realized that the buzz-cut man blocking his way was Fu Ren.
He brought people to help Fu Yanshen.
I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Fu Yanshen carried me to the back seat of a car, and he stood at the car door.
"Fu Ren, retreat!"
He spoke in a deep voice to the figure standing not far away.
