Chapter Eighteen: How many of you dare bark at me like dogs?

The guards couldn't give a decent answer to this question either.

Silence was the only option.

Wei Qinglou glanced at them coldly: "Useless trash!"

The men bowed their heads to receive the instruction, and when they looked up again, they saw that their young master had already walked far away. They hurriedly followed him, not daring to say a word.

Wei Qinglou did not return to the inn, but instead took his fishing bucket to the small courtyard in Yueguanshan.

He was a man of his word, and although the note and signature were not his own, since the deed was done and Wei Qinglou clearly didn't buy into it, he gave up and didn't intend to do anything more.

They just intensified their torment of Wei Qinglou.

For example, yesterday he asked Wei Qinglou to carry him up the mountain to admire the flowers, and today he asked Wei Qinglou to imitate Jiang Taigong and fish with a straight hook.

Wei Qinglou was too lazy to argue with him, and he agreed to everything he asked.

Fortunately, he was strong and didn't throw Yue Guanshan off the mountain. And luckily, he actually caught two stupid fish today.

Back in the courtyard, he tossed the fish to the guards to clean and gut, then went to find Yue Guanshan: "Mr. Yue, we've been delayed for so many days, don't you think we should set off now?"

Yue Guanshan glanced at him, and after a moment, nodded.

It's definitely time.

Having delayed for so many days, if it were any later, I fear the Emperor would have some complaints about him.

Wei Qinglou wasn't too surprised to see him nod. After spending these days together, he had enough to see Yue Guanshan's character clearly: although he acted somewhat recklessly, he was ultimately sensible.

For example, he knew who had sent him to Suiping, so he accepted the signed note.

The same is true nowadays.

He smiled and parted his thin lips slightly: "Sir, you are getting on in years. It would be safer to travel by land. I will leave the guards with you. After leaving Suiping City, we will split up, one going north and the other south. I will head south and take the waterway to the capital, so that no fools might spoil your fun."

Yue Guanshan put down his pen: "I'm just an old geezer, rushing to the capital. What interest could I possibly have? Let's go together. Or is it that you, kid, didn't want to be tormented by me, so you came up with this plan?"

They knew perfectly well why Wei Qinglou had suggested splitting up.

But Wei Qinglou didn't say it outright, so Yue Guanshan pretended not to understand.

Wei Qinglou smiled and shook his head: "No, thank you. My guards are all top-notch men handpicked by the household. They will definitely protect you on the way. As for me, you don't need to worry. My life is precious and I won't lose it so easily."

This wasn't an exaggeration. On his journey from Yujing to Suiping, he encountered several groups of assassins, but they were hesitant to harm him too much. All they did was try to injure him and delay his operation, hoping he would be unable to complete the mission.

However, moving across mountains and passes would be too obvious. Therefore, the people behind them all focused their attention on him.

The same applies to the return journey. If he travels with Yue Guanshan, he will be fine, but he fears that Yue Guanshan might not be able to withstand the shock, and then all his efforts will be in vain. However, if they travel separately, the assassins will not find him in the carriage heading north, and naturally they will not attack Yue Guanshan.

By the time they realize what's happening and want to find him, it will likely be quite some time. By then, he will have already joined up with the guards sent by the Duke's mansion, and no one will be able to touch him.

Yue Guanshan stared at him for a long time, then blew on his beard: "Don't flatter yourself. I'm not that worried about you."

Wei Qinglou smiled faintly and remained silent.

...

Zhu Jiayu set her trip to Heling for three days later. During those three days, she gave Manager Liao some instructions about the embroidery workshop and then bid farewell to Wanniang, the madam of Xingyun Workshop.

This time when she left the manor, she only took Lüzheng and two servants with her, along with Changsheng.

She and Lüzheng rode together in a carriage, with two servants on horseback guarding both sides, while Changsheng was in charge of driving.

Before leaving, Changsheng earnestly advised Zhu Jiayu, hoping she would take her life seriously and not be so careless, because encountering bandits would be no laughing matter.

Zhu Jiayu merely glanced at him coldly: "You guys actually take this seriously. Is it useful?"

What she didn't say was that the two servants she brought with her were both trained martial artists whom Wan Niang had found for her, and not just any ordinary martial artists.

She used her connections to buy him for a high price on the black market. He was said to have been a bodyguard in the mansion of a powerful figure. However, after that powerful figure fell from power, the bodyguards in the mansion were treated like commodities and bought and sold on the black market.

The seller used Gu worms to control these guards. During the transaction, he also gave Wan Niang the method for preparing the antidote, which Wan Niang then gave to Zhu Jiayu.

She had personally verified their skills; they were of the orthodox style, with each move ruthless and vicious. Ordinary bandits and outlaws who had only recently acquired their skills would not be a match for them.

As the group approached the city gate, a spirited horse suddenly galloped past their carriage, creating a whistling sound.

Zhu Jiayu sat in the carriage and asked Changsheng to move aside for a while.

The sons of nobles and wealthy young men in Suiping City were like this; they had few hobbies, except drinking in brothels and riding horses in the long street.

In Suiping City, they were the most important people in the world. No one dared to say a bad word about them. As soon as they heard the sound of horses' hooves from afar, experienced people knew they should pack up their things and move aside. Otherwise, those men would never be reasonable when they started riding and causing injury, death, or property damage.

But to her surprise, after waiting for a while, she did not hear the sound of horses' hooves anymore, but the neighing of the spirited horses continued incessantly.

Curious, Zhu Jiayu lifted the curtain and looked outside. He saw a tall figure riding a horse in front of the richly dressed young men.
