Chapter 9 Strange Things About Sharing a Bed

Chapter 9 Strange Things About Sharing a Bed

Chapter Nine: Different Feelings in the Same Bed

When Shen Tang woke up, she felt sore all over, as if she had been run over.

Feeling heavy breathing beside her, Shen Tang subconsciously turned her head to look, and saw Meng Huaiyan.

The two were very close, and Meng Huaiyan's breath sprayed onto Shen Tang's face.

Their breaths mingled, as if they were intimately connected.

Shen Tang blushed, feeling somewhat embarrassed.

The people who rescued them must have mistaken them for a married couple and put them in the same bed.

Shen Tang sat up, coughed lightly, and calmed herself down.

Then he reached out and touched Meng Huaiyan's forehead. His body temperature had returned to normal, and his breathing was even.

Apart from being a little pale, she should be fine.

She looked around. The house was a typical rural mud house, with walls made of bamboo strips and yellow mud, and a thatched roof.

The room was not large and could be seen at a glance, but it was kept clean and tidy.

Suddenly someone pushed the door open and came in. When the person saw that she was awake, they said excitedly, "You're finally awake? You've been unconscious for a whole day. You scared me to death."

Shen Tang looked up and saw a beautiful woman in her thirties with a kind face.

It must have been her who saved them both.

Shen Tang quickly got out of bed, bowed to her, and said sincerely, "Shen Tang thanks Madam for saving my life."

Upon seeing this, the woman quickly stepped forward and helped Shen Tang up. She was just an ordinary rural woman.

This was the first time someone had bowed and thanked her so formally, and she was momentarily at a loss for words: "Don't mention 'madam,' you're too kind."

"My name is Liu Yuniang, you can just call me Yuniang."

"Besides, it's just a small favor. Everyone has their difficulties when they're traveling. If you can help, then help."

At this point, Liu Yuniang frowned slightly, her eyes full of worry: "But your husband's injury is really serious. The doctor said that if it had been any later, even a god might not have been able to save him. What happened to you two?"

When Shen Tang heard her mention husband and wife, she realized that she had indeed misunderstood their relationship.

At this point, any attempt to explain would likely be futile.

Besides, they were a man and a woman alone together, and they slept together last night, so it would be troublesome to explain.

It's better to avoid trouble.

Shen Tang said gently, "My husband and I went out for a spring outing, but we never expected to encounter bandits."

"To escape the pursuit, we had no choice but to enter the forest. Fortunately, my wife rescued us, and my husband and I were able to escape danger."

Upon hearing this, Liu Yuniang felt a pang of pity. Observing that the two men were dressed and had an elegant demeanor, she assumed they were from a wealthy family.

However, he suffered this unexpected disaster and endured a lot of hardship.

Those bandits were truly hateful.

Seeing that Shen Tang was handsome and well-mannered, Liu Yuniang couldn't help but speak with affection: "Are you hungry? I've made some porridge, come and have some."

Shen Tang was indeed starving and didn't stand on ceremony with Liu Yuniang.

After finishing a bowl of hot porridge, Shen Tang finally felt alive again.

As Shen Tang ate her porridge, she looked around the small courtyard. It seemed that Liu Yuniang was the only person there, so she couldn't help but ask, "Where are your family members?"

Liu Yuniang sighed, her voice tinged with bitterness: "My husband has passed away, and my son joined the army a few years ago. We haven't heard from him since, and we don't know if he's alive or dead."

Shen Tang hadn't expected that her casual question would touch on someone's painful memories, and she couldn't help but feel annoyed and guilty, saying, "I'm sorry, I don't know."

Liu Yuniang quickly waved her hand: "It's alright, I've gotten used to it over the years."

Although she said she was fine, Liu Yuniang could not hide the worry on her face.

Seeing this, Shen Tang quickly comforted her, "Actually, no news is good news."

Liu Yuniang nodded. The lack of news at least meant that her son still had a glimmer of hope, and she had a sliver of hope and expectation.

After pondering for a moment, Shen Tang suddenly remembered that her uncle had some connections with Sun Qi, the Minister of War.

Thinking of this, Shen Tang asked Liu Yuniang carefully, "Tell me your son's name, date of birth, and the year he joined the army."

“My uncle knows the Minister of War. When I see him, I’ll ask him to inquire. Maybe we can find out some information.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Yuniang became somewhat agitated. Over the years, she had inquired everywhere and spent a lot of money, but to no avail.

It was as if his son had simply vanished into thin air.

Upon suddenly hearing that Shen Tang had connections that could find some traces of her son, she couldn't help but feel happy and excited.

Although she didn't know what kind of official the Minister of War was.

But one year, an official from their county town, whose title was unknown, came to visit.

Even the usually arrogant county magistrate bowed and scraped before him.

He must be a very powerful official.

With such a high-ranking official helping her investigate, she was sure to find more information than she could have, and she finally saw a glimmer of hope again.

Without hesitation, Liu Yuniang knelt down before Shen Tang, repeatedly saying, "Thank you, Miss! Thank you, Miss!"

Shen Tang was startled by the sudden kneeling and hurriedly tried to help her up.

Liu Yuniang stubbornly refused to get up and insisted on kowtowing to her.

No matter how much Shen Tang pleaded with Liu Yuniang, she wouldn't listen. In desperation, Shen Tang threatened, "If you don't get up, I won't ask any more questions."

Seeing that Shen Tang didn't seem to be joking, Liu Yuniang hesitated for a moment before finally getting up.

Shen Tang finally breathed a sigh of relief: "You saved my life, this is what I should do."

"Besides, there might not even be any news. I'm just asking around, and the result might not be satisfactory."

You should still prepare yourself mentally.

Aunt Liu understood what she meant, and she was already very happy that someone could help her inquire: "I know, but it's always better to have hope than no hope at all."

Shen Tang nodded.

After chatting for a while, Shen Tang got up and went to the room to check on Meng Huaiyan.

Meng Huaiyan was still unconscious. Seeing that his lips were dry, Shen Tang fed him some water with a spoon.

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly saw Meng Huaiyan's finger twitch.

Is he about to wake up?

Meng Huaiyan slowly opened his eyes. The unfamiliar environment and the pain in his body made him frown slightly.

Seeing that he had opened his eyes, Shen Tang excitedly stepped forward and asked, "You're awake? Are you feeling unwell?"

Meng Huaiyan shook his head upon hearing this.

Shen Tang asked again, "Do you want to sit up?"

Meng Huaiyan had been lying down for a day and a night and was indeed feeling a bit uncomfortable, so he nodded.

Shen Tang moved closer, avoiding Meng Huaiyan's injuries, and half-embraced his shoulder to support him.

Shen Tang had been taking care of Meng Huaiyan for the past few days, and she had gotten used to these physical contacts. Besides, she had no ulterior motives and didn't feel anything was wrong.

Meng Huaiyan's body stiffened slightly; they were too close, and the girl's sweet fragrance wafted into his nose.

He was very familiar with the scent. Although he had been unconscious for the past two days, he had not completely lost consciousness.

He knew that it was Shen Tang who changed his dressing, took care of him, and brought him out of the mountains.

His mother was strict with him. In order to prevent him from becoming addicted to women and neglecting his studies, all his personal servants were men.

This was the first time a woman had been so close to her while she was still conscious.

It's really a bit...

Shen Tang placed a pillow behind his lower back and asked, "Is this okay?"

It was too close; Shen Tang's breath was right next to his ear, making his ears feel a little numb.

Meng Huaiyan clenched his fingers, suppressing the urge to touch his ear: "That's enough."

For a moment, the two fell silent. They were not familiar with each other and did not know what to say.

Suddenly, a "coo coo coo" sound came from the room, and it was exceptionally clear in the quiet environment.

Meng Huaiyan's face tightened, and he clutched his stomach, looking somewhat unnatural.

Shen Tang then realized that he hadn't eaten for almost two days and hurriedly said, "I'll go get you some porridge."

Meng Huaiyan said, "Okay."

Shen Tang went out and ladled out most of a bowl of porridge from the kitchen.

Meng Huaiyan took the porridge and sat there quietly to drink it, while Shen Tang sat in a chair, quietly looking out the window.

There was an inexplicable sense of harmony about it.

After Meng Huaiyan finished his porridge, Shen Tang took away the bowls and chopsticks and washed them in the kitchen.

Just as she finished preparing, Liu Yuniang returned from outside, carrying a basket filled with fresh vegetables.

Seeing Shen Tang washing dishes in the kitchen, he said anxiously, "I'll wash the dishes wherever you put them, why bother you?"

Shen Tang didn't take it seriously. She was used to doing chores like washing dishes and cooking when she was a child: "It's just washing dishes, it's not like it's heavy work."

"Besides, you've kindly taken us in, so we can't just eat for free and not do any work."

Seeing that Liu Yuniang was about to say something more, Shen Tang quickly changed the subject: "Yuniang, do you have any extra rooms here?"

“I’m a restless sleeper and I’m afraid I’ll disturb my husband’s rest.”

After all, given her relationship with Meng Huaiyan, sleeping in the same bed was really inappropriate.

If possible, avoid it now.

Upon hearing this, Liu Yuniang shook her head: "No, there are only two rooms in the house."

"I'll get you an extra blanket later, it might be better if you cover yourselves separately."

Shen Tang sighed; that was all she could do.

Meng Huaiyan avoided her like the plague, afraid that she would cling to him and force him to sleep in the same bed with her, which would probably make him feel incredibly resentful.

Shen Tang thought of Meng Huaiyan's frustrated and helpless look, and inexplicably felt like laughing.

Even Meng Huaiyan has met his end.
