Chapter 28 In the cafeteria

Chapter 28 In the cafeteria

After listening to Tan Shu's story, Yan Sui leaned over and hugged him.

Tan Shu was a little surprised for a moment and was about to say something when Yan Sui suddenly said "thank you" in her ear.

.

Feeling Tan Shuchui's hands on both sides hugging her, Yan Sui tightened her arms.

Thinking back to her previous life, she never had the chance to reconcile with Tan Shu. She became angry and awkward, and Tan Shu, full of guilt, avoided each other whenever they met.

I remember that at that time, Yan Zhaoting's affairs had just been exposed, and his family's house was repossessed by the court. Debt collectors found the old community where they lived and ordered them to repay the loan as soon as possible.

Sui Yuling contributed her remaining money. Her parents had died long ago, and she rarely contacted her relatives there. After the incident, the four of them were left with no one to turn to. Perhaps because they truly hadn't repaid the debt, the debt collectors stopped bothering them. They simply told them to pay them back as soon as they had money.

After the debt collectors left, Yan Sui saw that Ping'an and his sister were pale from hunger. She stood up and picked up the two hundred yuan that the debt collectors had left on the table out of pity for them before leaving, and wanted to go downstairs to buy something to eat.

As soon as she walked downstairs, she bumped into Tan Shu at the stair door.

Tan Shu was still wearing his school uniform, as if he had come here directly after coming out of school.

Seeing Yan Sui, she clasped her hands together nervously: "Sui, Sui Sui."

Yan Sui raised his head, and the look in his eyes when he looked at her was colder than ever before: "You have been avoiding me all this time, is it because of this?"

"Tan Shu, have you known about Yan Zhaoting's infidelity for a long time?"

Tan Shu had never seen Yan Sui like this before, and tears immediately fell. "Yes, I'm sorry, Sui Sui. I, I just found out a few days ago. I was afraid of hurting you and didn't know how to tell you. But I really didn't know your father had transferred all your family's property. I only knew that he had cheated on me, nothing else. If I had known anything else, I would definitely have warned you a long time ago—"

"Tan Shu," Yan Sui interrupted her, "your parents have been helping him hide it from my mom. And you kept it from me too."

Tan Shu was spinning around anxiously: "That's not the case, that's not the case."

But Yan Sui didn't want to go on. She pulled away Tan Shu's hand and looked at her with a distant expression: "Don't come to see me again in the future."

“…”

When Yan Sui came back after shopping, Tan Shu was no longer downstairs in the apartment building.

When she returned to school after finishing her housework, Yan Sui found a stack of money wrapped in a paper bag in her desk hole. The paper bag had a puppy's silly smiley face printed on it. She didn't think it was cute, she just thought it was irritating.

There was a white note sandwiched between a thick stack of banknotes.

Yan Sui knew who put the money there without even looking at the note inside. She carried the paper bag to Science Class 1 and, despite Tan Shu's refusal, forcefully stuffed the bag back into her hands: "I don't need it."

She refused again and again, and Tan Shu didn't dare to come to her again.

After surviving high school and taking the college entrance exam, Tan Shu followed his family's plan to study abroad. She never saw Tan Shu again.

.

Later, Yan Sui realized that even if Tan Shu had told her about Yan Zhaoting's infidelity, the matter was already done and she was powerless to reverse the tragedy.

She was just a good friend whom she took out her anger on because of Yan Zhaoting's matter.

But no matter whether it was in the previous life or this life, even though she already knew all about Yan Zhaoting's cheating in advance, she still wanted to hear Tan Shu tell her in person.

It has nothing to do with anything else, it’s her obsession with her relationship with Tan Shu in her previous life.

Yan Sui lowered her head and rested her forehead on Tan Shu's shoulder.

When she heard the words "I wish I had told you earlier", her nose felt sore and her eyes were filled with tears.

As soon as she said "I'm sorry", Yan Sui's tears fell on Tan Shu's neck.

She looked up and said, "It's not too late now."

Noon is the peak time in the cafeteria. The crowds are bustling and the floor is greasy, so Yan Sui pays special attention to her steps, worried that she might fall to the ground accidentally.

Because the teacher changed the class schedule this morning, their class had four math classes in a row. The math teacher took two classes out of the class to give the liberal arts class one a pop-up test.

After using up his brain cells for four classes, Chen Ling was particularly hungry today. He usually complained that the food in the cafeteria was not tasty, but now he finished half a bowl of rice as soon as he picked up the chopsticks.

Seeing this, Yan Sui couldn't help but say, "Slow down."

"You are really hungry. You can eat all these dishes with relish." Wen Qingman glanced at her and saw the right moment to put all her fat into Chen Ling's plate.

Chen Ling yelped and hurriedly put the fat meat back into the other person's bowl: "Even if I starve to death, I won't eat fat meat."

The two of them started arguing with each other over these pieces of fat that were "disdained". Yan Sui ate her meal in silence, fearing that she would be the next one to be given the fat meat.

It's no wonder that Chen Ling and Wen Qingman don't want these fat pieces of meat. In order to cater to the city's inspection, the school recently asked students to practice the "Clean Plate" campaign, and even organized the first and second grade classes to take turns to serve as supervisors and administrators, standing by the泔水袋.

If any student has too much leftover food, they will be stopped and asked to go back and finish their food before coming back.

Students privately complained that this behavior was "eating pig food with one's nose pinched."

But no matter how much they complain, once they put on the red jackets, the students would think, "If you don't let me pour out the rice, then I won't let you pour out the rice either," and they would happily supervise their "compatriots" to finish their meals.

So these two days, Yan Sui and her friends tried to take as little as possible when they came to the cafeteria to eat, and would throw away the food only after they had almost finished it.

Wen Qingman's few pieces of fat meat eventually returned to her own plate. She picked at them while complaining, "The spoonful Auntie gave me is all fat, right? There's not a single piece of lean meat."

Chen Ling bit her chopsticks and smiled. To prevent the fat from being sent to her bowl, she quickly changed the subject: "Are the midterm results out yet? Why are they so slow this time?"

"It's almost done!" Yan Sui swallowed the rice in her mouth and said, "When I went to the office today, I saw Teacher Lin was already sorting out the rankings."

"Ah! The English results are out so soon. I was hoping they'd be out tomorrow!"

Yan Sui laughed: "What's the difference between today and tomorrow?"

"I didn't manage my time well in English this time, and I finished the last few reading questions very quickly," Chen Ling sighed. "I don't think I did very well on the test. I'm afraid Teacher Lin will criticize me."

Wen Qingman: "I'll be criticized anyway. If I'm criticized today, I won't be criticized tomorrow."

"I just want to live one more day! Last time, Teacher Lin said that anyone who gets below 100 in English will have to come to her during lunch break to memorize. I feel like I'm in trouble."

When Wen Qingman mentioned this, she nodded thoughtfully: "Now that you mention it, I feel like I'm a little worried too. This time, Yan Sui and I performed quite differently."

Yan Sui didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Don't be so unconfident, what if I'm wrong?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she received two eye rolls: "You are the top student in English class, and we are both almost at the bottom of the class. What do you think?"

Fearing that she would be scolded, Yan Sui kept her mouth shut.

After talking about the midterm exam, the three of them were in no mood to continue eating. Chen Ling and Wen Qingman just wanted to go back to class as soon as possible to see if the results were out.

The fatty meat on Wen Qingman's plate was really hard to swallow. She looked at the two泔水袋 (swill buckets) and decisively pulled Yan Sui and the others to the crowded area to mingle with the crowd and dump the food.

This was the time when the second group of students were having lunch. The people queuing upstairs were mixed with the people getting food. Yan Sui followed Wen Qingman carefully, holding the food tray.

But no matter how careful she was, she couldn't care less about other people's recklessness.

A boy suddenly jumped out from the stairs which were originally empty. Yan Sui subconsciously dodged him, but forgot that the ground was slippery. When she stepped back, she slipped and was about to fall backwards with the plate in her hand.

Yan Sui's mind went blank and she subconsciously closed her eyes.

But just as she leaned back, her arm holding the plate was suddenly pulled. Another force, counteracting the force pulling her back, pulled her forward.

With a "clang", the plate in her hand fell to the ground.

Yan Sui raised her eyes and saw the boy in a red jacket standing in front of her, holding her hand tightly. His red jacket was drenched in the juices from her plate.

Before she and Yu Shuli could speak, Chen Ling, who heard the noise, hurried over with a plate of food: "Are you okay, Sui Sui?"

Yan Sui hummed, and looked at Yu Shuli with a complicated expression: "Are you okay?"

Yu Shuli looked down at the remnants of his red jacket and rubbed the fallen vegetable leaves on it with the back of his hand: "It's okay, just go wash it over there."

Yan Sui glanced at the dinner plate on the ground and the residue on his body, and sighed: "I'll go with you."

After greeting Chen Ling and the others, Yan Sui ran to the side and told the cafeteria aunt about the situation at the泔水袋.

The cafeteria auntie waved her hand readily and told her not to pick up the trash, and that they would clean up together later.

Yan Sui thanked him and went to the nearby pool with Yu Shuli to wash.

Fortunately, Yu Shuli was wearing a red jacket, so the school uniform only got a few oil stains on it.

Yan Sui picked up the red jacket that Yu Shuli had taken off and rinsed it in the sink. She asked, "The oil stains can't be washed off. Do you still need this jacket for your weekly duty?"

Yu Shuli shook his head: "I am not on duty this week, only today at noon."

"Then I'll take it home, wash it, and then help you send it to the school Youth League Committee office?" Yan Sui paused, looked up and asked him, "These are the clothes you picked up from the Youth League Committee office, right?"

Yu Shuli shook his head and took the clothes from her hands: "No need."

Yan Sui frowned.

Yu Shuli said, "I'm glad you didn't fall. I can fix the clothes and send them back myself."

Yan Sui felt something was wrong and wanted to take the clothes back from him.

But Yu Shuli seemed to have had a premonition and hid the wet clothes behind him.

Yan Sui didn't want to play the game of chase with him in the cafeteria, so she could only say in a gentle voice: "I got the clothes dirty, it's only right that I take them back and wash them."

As soon as she finished speaking, Yu Shuli stopped moving, stood up straight and asked, "What is should?"

Yan Sui raised her eyes to look at him,

"Is it right for you to hide from me?"
