Chapter 20 Cotard's Syndrome

The four people stood at the door and kept watching Jia Jun in the room, but the man remained expressionless, and there was no trace of life on his haggard face.

Lu Zifan stared for a while and felt a little bored, so he walked to the windowsill, took out a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket, took out a cigarette from the cigarette box, and put it in his lips. A snapping sound was heard in the empty corridor, and then the blue flame that flickered after the lighter was ignited was particularly dazzling in the already dim corridor.

When the man in the room saw the flickering flames, his body trembled slightly, then he suddenly squatted on the ground, hugged his legs tightly with his hands, and murmured something in a low voice.

Before everyone could react... there was a snap... and the fire went out. Jia Jun was shocked and looked out the window, but his pupils were full of fear and tension, and his already haggard face turned even paler.

Lu Zifan lowered his head to smoke and did not notice his change. The other three saw Jia Jun's reaction and then looked at Lu Zifan in the window. Lu Zifan looked up at the three people in confusion.

Fu Linxiao walked over, snatched the lighter from his hand, and lit it again. As the flame flickered, Jia Jun's expression changed again. This time, the whispers from his mouth became louder and louder: "Fire, it's on fire, hurry...fire...run...fire..."

Seeing this, the dean reached out to press the emergency bell at the door, but was stopped by Jiang Linghao who was standing beside him. He said, "Dean, please wait a moment. Maybe this time we can treat his condition."

Fu Linxiao extinguished the lighter, and the flame disappeared. The trembling voice of the man in the house was heard again: "It's out, he's dead... It's not me... It's not... It's not... I'm sorry... I'm sorry... It's me who should die, it's me..."

Hearing Jia Jun's gibberish from inside the room, his hands still trembling and shaking, his dazed expression suddenly relaxed a little before turning into despair. Han Tianyu saw this and pulled Jiang Linghao away from the dean's hand and said, "Dean, please call a doctor to check on his condition."

The emergency bell was pressed, and soon the doctor and nurse on duty came over and entered the room with the dean. However, for safety reasons, the dean did not agree to the request of Fu Linxiao and others to enter together.

After the doctor examined Jia Jun, he determined that there was nothing serious. He injected Jia Jun with a tranquilizer and was about to leave. Fu Linxiao expressed his desire to learn more about Jia Jun's condition. The dean nodded in agreement and motioned for everyone to go to the office for communication.

"Patient Jia Jun has Cotard's syndrome, a type of cognitive impairment. Each attack is accompanied by symptoms such as schizophrenia, depression, and paralytic dementia. He will deny the existence of himself and the people and things in his surroundings. For example, he may believe that his internal organs are rotten and his body is just an empty shell. Or he may believe that he has nothing, no family, relatives, or even a living environment. In his consciousness, he even believes that he is dead, or that the whole world no longer exists. Some patients will believe that they are deeply sinful and should not live in this world or should be punished, so they will commit suicide." The doctor's explanation was too professional. Fu Linxiao and the other three were trying hard to digest the doctor's explanation when they heard the doctor's voice again.

"However, this is the first time such a situation has occurred due to external stimulation. As for the specific reason, I think it must have left a deep impression on him, or perhaps it caused him to feel fear and terror, which triggered it."

After hearing the doctor's explanation and doubts, Han Tianyu turned to look at the dean: "Dean, I remember you said that he became like this because he witnessed his biological brother's car accident, right?"

The dean nodded.

"Since he was admitted to the hospital, has he mentioned anything about the car accident, his brothers, or his friends?"

The dean pondered for a moment and looked at the doctor. The doctor slowly spoke and continued the dean's answer: "Jia Jun, the previous attending doctor was my master. I took over after he retired. As far as I remember, he didn't mention anyone, just kept saying that he was dead... But this is normal in Cotard's syndrome."

After hearing the doctor's explanation, Han Tianyu lowered his eyes and thought about something. Jiang Linghao then remembered that the dean had mentioned before that it was his girlfriend who sent Jia Jun here, so he asked the dean for the information of Jia Jun's girlfriend.

The dean found the information about Jia Jun's admission to the hospital and handed it to Jiang Linghao. Jiang Linghao looked through it carefully and didn't see anything unusual, but he still took a picture of it and planned to go back and investigate it carefully.

It was already late at night, and the four of them thanked the doctor and the dean and left. Before leaving, Fu Linxiao said goodbye to the dean and asked him to let them know if he saw anything involving Jia Jun in the future.

The dean readily agreed.
