Chapter 32 Driven Mad by Money

"Big sister, wait here, I'll be right back."

"Yeah, but don't run around." Anjing glanced at Anle, who had run off from the fork in the stone steps, and replied.

Seeing that Anle had turned a corner and disappeared from sight, he thought about it again and followed her out of concern.

If she doesn't keep an eye on her little sister for even a moment, who knows what trouble she might cause? If she gets lost at this time, with so many people around, there's nowhere to look for her.

At the entrance to the outhouse, a young maidservant stood guard, so anxious that she wished she could stare a hole through the door.

"Miss, how is it? Is it true?" Thinking of the blood-red stain on the back of her young lady's clothes, she felt that she had asked an idiotic question.

"What a stupid question I asked! That's definitely it, it's already like that!"

"Miss, please wait here. I will go to the clothing store to buy you a coat."

Unexpectedly, on this very day of the Heavenly God Festival, her young lady had her first period.

Anle suddenly jumped out at this moment, cheerfully bouncing in front of the little maid.

"Are you feeling troubled, miss? Are you worried about your master? I noticed a large patch of blood on the back of your master's clothes. Is he having his period?"

The young maid stared at Anle, feeling both embarrassed and agitated.

"...You...you saw it all? You...you little brat, how would you know about this?"

"Hey, miss, what do you care what I know? Anyway, I know I can help you solve this problem."

The maidservant stared at Anle suspiciously. "You'll handle it? How will you handle it?"

"When I came over just now, I heard you say that you were going to buy your young lady some clothes. Do you expect your young lady to change clothes in this outhouse?"

The maidservant gave Anle a cold look.

"What else can we do? The temple is packed with people kneeling outside, and we can't squeeze in. Besides, if someone finds out in front of so many people, my young lady will be utterly humiliated."

Besides, if I don't change my clothes in the outhouse, where else can I go to change them? There's nowhere convenient around here except for the outhouse!

"I think you've come here specifically to see me make a fool of myself, haven't you?"

Anle waved her hand with a smile on her face.

"Oh, no, no, miss, you've misunderstood me. I've come here to help you solve your problem. Look, that clothing shop is quite far from this secluded temple."

It's such a hassle for you to go all the way out to buy clothes.

Are you really going to leave your young lady in this outhouse and have her wait for you here?

This jerk doesn't even say anything. How can you leave such a beautiful young lady here all by herself?

"I have a very convenient way to save your young lady from embarrassment, one that will absolutely not make her a laughingstock."

"What method? Tell me." The little maid put her hands on her hips, looked down at Anle, who was only waist-high to her, and was very condescending, her eyes full of disdain.

Anle smiled and didn't care about the little maid's arrogant attitude.

"It's easy to say but hard to do, and it also helps her get through this awkward situation until she gets home."

"But you know! I'm not here to solve other people's problems for free." Anle winked at the little maid, raised an eyebrow, and stretched out her hand, looking like she was entitled to receive money.

The maidservant gave Anle a cold look and sized her up from head to toe.

"I don't think you're here to solve the problem, you're here to scam money. I've seen plenty of poor kids like you, capable of anything from petty theft to swindling."

"Oh, is that so? If you don't believe me, then fine. Just let your young lady wait here. It seems this little bit of money is more valuable than your young lady's reputation."

"Little sister, what are you doing here? Weren't you here to use the restroom?" Anjing followed over, glanced at the little maid who was talking to Anle with a puzzled look, and asked.

"Ah, it's nothing, let's go, big sister."

Aren't you going to the outhouse?

"No, no, my stomach suddenly stopped hurting," Anle said, pulling Anjing along as they headed back.

"Stop right there!"

Anle ignored her and continued to pull Anjing along.

Seeing that Anle ignored her and seemed about to leave without looking back, the little maid became anxious and softened her tone.

"Hey, kid, wait a minute. I'll give you some money. You can settle our young lady's matter."

Although she felt that the child was trying to swindle money, what the child said was indeed true; this little bit of money was nothing compared to a good reputation.

If this disgraceful behavior of the young lady gets out and becomes a laughing stock, then this little bit of money won't be enough to make up for it.

The maid immediately took out a small pink purse from her person and pulled out ten coins.

She would accept it even if it was a scam; ten coins, in case it really solved her problem.

Anle stopped and turned to look at the maid. When she saw the ten coins the maid had taken out, her face fell. Then she smiled and turned back to Anjing, pulling her along as they continued walking.

"Hey, hey, little kid, don't go! Why are you leaving? I've already given you money, isn't that enough?"

Hearing this tone, Anle paused again, turned to look at the little maid, and said with a forced smile.

"Do you think that I'm only worth the price of being a servant to someone else just to help your young lady solve her problems?"

"Is your young lady so worthless, or are you trying to fob me off like a beggar?" She had already learned about the value of money in this world from Old Xu, the oxcart puller, today.

Old Xu gave the man who was looking after the carriages and horses ten coins.

"You—" The little maid glared and choked with anger, her round eyes almost spitting fire. This little kid's mouth was really sharp.

"Tell me, how much do you want in exchange for my help?"

Anle smiled and held out a hand.

The maid hesitated for a moment, then stomped her foot in a fit of rage.

"Fine, fifty coins it is. I'll bear with it today." He said, then lowered his head and continued to fumble for coins in his purse.

"Fifty coins? No, no, no, I don't mean fifty coins, I mean five hundred coins. Fifty coins can't buy my skills."

"What? What did you say?" The maid paused, fiddling with the coins, momentarily doubting if she had misheard.

Did she hear that right?

No, she must have misheard.

Anle nodded with a smile, her eyes crinkling, her face saying, "You heard me right."

"Yes, you heard me right, five hundred coins, I said five hundred coins."

"Five hundred coins? Are you robbing me?" The maid's voice suddenly became shrill, and the colors on her face changed from red to green in turn, finally turning completely black.

"Get lost, kid! You're dreaming too much! You're obsessed with money!"
